To want to know how much you talk to yourself?

I do,
I also spend quite a lot of time by myself (with animals not humans) so I find it hard to switch it off at other times.
My lovely gran chatted to herself so I feel I'm in good company.
I just need to feel I'm not the only one

Yep, a lot! I just try not to do it too much in front of others, although i have probably slipped up a few times.

TerrorOwls · 07/09/2023 21:27

Yep. Talk to myself. Swear to myself. Swear at myself.

roses2 · 07/09/2023 21:36

In my head I talk to myself all day long every day. Isn't that the same as thinking??

BonnieBe · 07/09/2023 21:39

All the time. I am a good listener.

Caswallonthefox · 07/09/2023 21:52

All the time. I also talk to my cat, argue with ziggy and mutter to myself in public. I also stop when I get to a shop and ask myself what I was in there for.

VWT5 · 07/09/2023 21:55

I was a bit unsettled to catch myself chatting to spiders in the house….

HectorSalamanca · 07/09/2023 21:58

I talk to myself ALL the time.

More so when I am in the office on my own in work.

I say things out loud like 'ahh this is so fucking lovely. Why can't it just be me and popmaster every day'

Or when I put the phone down to people, I say things like 'mate, you are an absolute prick'

Of a weekend round the house, it's usually stuff like 'right, what did I walk in this room to do?'

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/09/2023 21:59

I talk to our dog, our guinea pigs, and to the birds in the garden while I refresh the water baths and feeders. I don't have a conversation with myself, but I do frequently voice my thoughts out loud when alone, and always have, for as long as I can remember. Also, appliances, devices etc. which aren't working get called a piece of shit etc, but doesn't everyone do this?

Berlinlover · 07/09/2023 22:01

I live alone and talk to myself constantly.

EarringsandLipstick · 07/09/2023 22:03

I talk to myself a lot. I used to do it way more - as a child I'd stand in the bathroom & talk to myself in the mirror. Big chats. Sometimes invented stories & personas.

No-one in my family thought it was odd. Family tradition, especially with a great-aunt of mine who apparently I look like too.

I love the existence of hands-free phone set ups in cars these days so I can happily talk to myself while driving but not look crazy!

Clarabellasingsthisbit · 07/09/2023 22:04

I talk to myself all the time.It actually helps me to remember things better if I vocalise them.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/09/2023 22:24

All the time .
Sometimes I talk to my dog; sometimes to myself. Occasionally I might talk to my husband 🤣

JustMarriedBecca · 07/09/2023 22:26

I pretend I'm a character in a book and make up dialogue to speak to the other characters.

We all have our little quirks

SallyWD · 07/09/2023 22:41

I never do but I know plenty of people who do. It's not unusual

44PumpLane · 07/09/2023 22:47

Christ I talk to myself all the time, entire monologues in my head and chatter on out loud to my dog, or various bits of wildlife!

Like another poster I love the fact that when in the car people will just assume im talking hands free or singing along to something.

I do the supermarket thing of wandering round with a list "now if I were quick soak peas, where would I live? Would I be in the aisle with the dried beans or......ooh pasta, yes I need you....tick...now peas" (it goes on)!

I have a strange affinity with bees and somehow always seem to be the one to find unwell bees, so I always get them in the palm of my hand and talk them through what's going on "now let's find you a flower so you can just recharge your batteries and it would be really great if you could avoid stinging me as that doesn't end well for you" 😂

SirCharlesRainier · 07/09/2023 22:48

Constantly. Rehearsing conversations I might have, going over conversations I have had, imaginary conversations, conversations where I 'play' the other person talking back at myself... it's not normal is it?! 😂

I think i generally keep it under my breath/mostly in my head with minimal lip movement, but still get a jolt of embarrassed terror when an acquaintance sees me walking or driving and I'm not sure whether or not I was in full flow.

AcrossthePond55 · 08/09/2023 02:22

Ah yes, but have you ever conducted an interview with yourself? Because I have. And I've come to the conclusion that I am an extremely interesting and knowledgeable person. At least to me I am.🗣

Devilsmommy · 08/09/2023 02:29

I'm forever talking to myself and inanimate objects. Luckily if I'm doing it when I'm out I can just style it out as I'm talking to my 1year old😁

GarlicGrace · 08/09/2023 03:21

I love this thread!

I've just told myself (or the screen, take your pick) that I love it 😄

SplendidUtterly · 08/09/2023 03:59

My pc decided to shut down 10 minutes before the cut off time for adjusting my Asda grocery shop.
I read it the riot act.
called every name under the sun
asked it if it was plotting against me
told it i KNEW it was indeed plotting
and deliberately waited for me to leave the room before it went to sleep to piss me off.
Also had a brief talk to a grasshopper who tried to get into the house tonight
It has been warned 😀

ScentlessAprentice · 08/09/2023 04:13

Oh I do it constantly. To the extent that sometimes I get bored listening to myself. I was in hospital recently and had to keep apologising to the woman I shared a room with, as I kept saying (or singing mostly) stuff like putting on my slippers and walking to the shower, pouring a glass of water, oh the yoghurt today is blueberry, feeling a bit nippy so I might grab that extra blanket. In my defence she talked constantly too so there was a pair of us (annoying twats) in it

ScentlessAprentice · 08/09/2023 04:15

Though I usually do it very quietly and it is mostly sung. And I have a terrible singing voice so that probably makes it worse

StellaLaBella · 08/09/2023 04:18

Ooh, do you mean in or out? I have a constant conversation with myself going, it's just now always audible 😂

Riapia · 08/09/2023 04:20

I talk to myself all the time.
I have full on arguments with myself that can get very nasty.
Often tell myself I’m a twat etc.
I wouldn’t stand for someone else speaking to me like I do to myself when I’m angry.

StellaLaBella · 08/09/2023 04:21

not always audible. But it's there humming away in my head, so much so I get irked if DH 'interrupts' me. Even though I'm not saying anything Confused
