Shared courtyard with neighbours but it’s actually the dogs toilet!

As above really, should this really be the case, my son and his wife share a small paved courtyard with 3 other neighbours, one set of neighbours use it as their dogs toilet and yesterday in this heat it was rank!

They don’t believe they can do anything about it, surely the Landlord of the couple with the dogs can do something?

God that's vile. How much are we talking? I know dogs have to go, I've always had dogs but the poo is picked up immediately! If there is a fair amount I'd say it's an environmental health hazard and the council may well be interested.

Yard broom the lot to their back door..

Ohlord56 · 06/09/2023 13:37

A fair bit, it’s the flys it attracts too. They couldn’t open the windows, I know flys are everywhere but in this weather it is particularly bad. It’s a shame as the yard could be beautiful.

Yes I would find out who the landlord was and complain, seek support off the other neighbours.
I would also be sprinkling jeyes fluid about and hosing it off preferably in the direction of their front door. Any solid matter placed by their door as well. Very inconsiderate and unneighbourly.

Ohlord56 · 06/09/2023 13:39

Can Jeyes be used around animals?
Im going to suggest the complaint, it can’t continue, it’s so unhygienic & unhealthy!

So they aren’t picking it up after? 😮

Humidititties · 06/09/2023 13:41

It's not just the poo, it's the wee which stinks when it's left. Our dog has toileting spot away from the garden, we rinse the wee with a hose after after wee and once/twice a week we give it a good disinfecting with a kennel cleaner

EvilElsa · 06/09/2023 13:41

I'd also be very tempted to sweep the whole lot right up to their door step (or bag it and hang it off their door knob). I'd probably shove a note through the door asking them to clean up and I'd also speak to the landlord and send photos. I have dogs that are cleaned up after immediately both in the garden and out for walks. Dog shit is fucking disgusting.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/09/2023 13:42

Is the poo being left out or bagged straight away by the owners?

They should also be regularly scrubbing it for wee smells (and once cleaned, take their poor dog somewhere else to toilet!)

Trenchfootinthescottishhighlandstoday · 06/09/2023 13:49

Check the tenancy.. Are they even allowed a ddog?

beAsensible1 · 06/09/2023 13:52

i'm have the same issue with a shared garden courtyard. none of the children in the building can use it because of all the wee and poo.

even when its picked up there's the smell.

:(

CrotchetyQuaver · 06/09/2023 14:10

My understanding from a quick google is used diluted it's fine. I've used it neat in horse stables for many years to get rid of the urine smelll. Sprinkle on neat, scrub with a broom and hose off. Usually dogs and cats around and I've never known any become unwell. You could do your own research and use a different disinfectant if you felt it necessary?

FoodFann · 06/09/2023 14:17

That’s completely vile. Ask them firstly to stop allowing their dogs to use it. They will probably be worried about eviction/being asked to get rid of dogs, so may be quite compliant

Itick8outof10boxes · 06/09/2023 14:19

I'd be speaking to the landlord if there is one [with photos] and speaking to the council and environmental health.
Failing that it would be relocated onto their door step ready to treat indoors.

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 06/09/2023 14:21

Absolutely report this to the landlord, it's vile. Scummy people.

Whatswhatwhichiswhich · 06/09/2023 14:33

Agree with reporting, scuzzy buggers.

tattygrl · 06/09/2023 14:34

Report. The landlord should be interested purely because of the negative effect this has on their property (re enjoyment of their tenants and state of the outside space), if nothing else. They won't want tenants leaving because the outdoor space is unusable and windows can't even be opened.

Startyabastard · 06/09/2023 14:40

That's revolting... think of the blue bottle flies that have been on the shit that will come through the windows... and then there's the smell! 💩
I'd ring environmental health!!!

GasPanic · 06/09/2023 14:43

Get them to check the terms of their lease. It may detail what the courtyard can and cannot be used for.

HerAvatar · 06/09/2023 14:43

Jeyes is safe once dry, so ideally they would need to keep the dogs in til the sun dries the slabs.

skyeisthelimit · 06/09/2023 14:46

They should definitely report it to the landlord. There is a clause in the tenancy agreement about not causing issues with neighbours. Make sure that they include photos.

Plus, if they vacate the property without picking it up, the LL will be left to deal with it, so it is in his interest to tell them to sort it out now

Ohthatsabitshit · 06/09/2023 14:46

@Ohlord56 Have you asked them not to let the dog shit/pee in the courtyard?

maddening · 06/09/2023 14:48

They neighbours should use a pet litter and train their dog to wee on that imo

morknmindi · 06/09/2023 14:48

As it's a rented flat are they even allowed dogs?

TheUsualChaos · 06/09/2023 14:48

Complain to their landlord and keep complaining until something is done. Disgusting.
