To find the overly nostalgic social media posts about school and parenting in general quite toxic?

I have noticed a growing trend now where every parent is almost expected to lament their children starting school, or starting a new school year. Complete with doorstep photos and a post about how quickly time goes etc etc.

Since when did we all have to publicly break down over our children growing up and the passing of time?

I am a parent and I do have nostalgic moments but also try to celebrate the milestones, I feel like now it's the accepted norm for parents to publicly weep over each passing year. Does anyone else find it a bit much?

Think you need to block and move on op if you think it’s toxic.

I love seeing them, I think parents have to say that they’re feelIng sad about school starts even if maybe they aren’t, society thinks we should love every moment of parenting.

For me it’s a little moment of celebration - Ah look at Sarah’s little lad, such a cute smile. Lovely to see his parents doing well, that sort of thing.

I think people also use SM as a photo album. Somewhere to store the pics. I don't mind them.

I think there a mix of some who are genuinely upset for some reason or more usually a a variety of reasons but most feel performative wailing - you see it in on here oh if you are not devastate like me you can't love your child as much as me.

I do think it's getting more common though - perhaps smaller families longer work hours and commutes all play into that - or perhaps it just social media posturing - who knows.

All these threads complaining about back to school photos. I bet that you are the same people next month who will complain about Halloween and the month after that be getting ready for your horror threads at the use of the word Santa.

Oh god, yes. Back to the bingo card. I have "Americanisation" and "Father Christmas or you're common".
