Disney movies help!

Rainraindontgoawa · 04/09/2023 20:40

We have a 3.5 year old who although knows Elsa very well hasn’t seen the movie! Although she knows little mermaid very well she hasn’t seen the movie… etc.

This is because all these movies are not appropriate for this age group because they are too fast, contain violent/scary scenes scary creatures etc. In any case are not appropriate for a 3-4 year old.

For this reason we are focusing on Bluey, cocomelon etc.

Any suggestion on Disney movies for this age group? We are stuck in a holiday with bad weather and we need some advice!

YABU - Go with Elsa!

YANBU - Go with Winnie the Pooh!

Winnie the Pooh has bizarre honey dreams.

Frozen and the little mermaid would be fine for that age honestly at 3 1/2 she would be ok with most Disney films unless she's particularly sensitive.

Malapataraso · 04/09/2023 20:46

I guess the little mermaid is ok unless you don’t want to teach her it’s worth giving up her voice for a man. Disney sucks. Their messages to girls suck. Toxic garbage nonsense.

My 2.5 year old loves Moana and Monsters Inc

Dwappy · 04/09/2023 20:47

I like Dumbo. (Cartoon. Not the weird live action one) Although I still get sad when his mum is taken away.

SleepingStandingUp · 04/09/2023 20:49

What about Thomas the Tank engine, king of the railway, if you can get it. Saw it at the cinema with my 3.5 yo who enjoyed it. Mild peril but no bad guys, very gentle.

Mapletreelane · 04/09/2023 20:49

My daughter was just 4 when Frozen came out and loved it; we saw it 3x at cinema that Xmas. She was fine with it. She is 14 years old now and I really don't think she's been harmed by it! We saw the musical a few months and said she wished the musical was around when she was 4 as would have loved it! She's always loved Frozen!

Go for it! X

ExpatForLife · 04/09/2023 20:49

Is Sofia the First still available on Disney streaming? It's a series do the episodes are shorter. Not scary at all. DD loved it when she was about that age.

JustAnotherUsey · 04/09/2023 20:53

Encanto didn't have any bits that were scary.

I get little mermaid as the shark scene would be scary for a 3/4 year old.

I guess look for films with a U rating?

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 04/09/2023 20:54

Moana? There's only the singing crab thing and the angry Island woman who are bad guys.

Appropriate is subjective though. DS has been watching Disney since he was 2 (now 4) and he's never been scared by anything in Cars, Encanto, The Rescuers, Aristocats, Peter Pan, Toy Story or (random pick here) The Goofy Movie.

ShadowPuppets · 04/09/2023 20:54

Honestly I don’t think they see the things we see. I have a 3 yo who lives for Moana, Frozen and Beauty and Beast.

pastypirate · 04/09/2023 20:55

Jesus if you think they are too fast you shouldn't be allowing coco melon the frames per second count is very high which makes it very addictive.

Frozen is completely fine there's not even mild peril! Little mermaid I agree is quite scary.

Luca is amazing I love it have a watch of that see what you think

pastypirate · 04/09/2023 20:55

But also my 3 year old loved nothing more than bubble guppies and umi zoomi

BiscuitLover3678 · 04/09/2023 20:55

Google the ones rated U. It’s really hard!
cbeebies has a lot of great content, I trust all of it tbh. Have you tried the Julia Donaldson adaptions? They’re like mini films and fab. Gruffalo and stickman faves in this house.

Exactly, DS is the same age as the OPs child and he loves lots of the Disney films. To children they are just stories not life lessons.

peanutcrumble · 04/09/2023 21:02

Jesus all of my kids watched every single Disney film by that age 🤦🏻‍♀️

minipie · 04/09/2023 21:06

I would avoid Lion King, Dumbo and Bambi due to the dying/forcibly removed parents. All the others I can think of are fine IMO, yes scary bits but happy endings all round.

Needmorelego · 04/09/2023 21:07

My daughter was scared by Brave at age 4 - but it is a PG. Most Disney films are U so generally fine for 3 and a half.
The plot can sometimes be a bit lost of them at that age so a lot goes over their heads. If she seems scared - you just switch it off quickly.

WhatdidIdoyesterday · 04/09/2023 21:08

I'm with you OP at 3-4 my DC find Frozen scary in parts, also they were very sad when the parents died. Same for many other disney films when the parents are absent/disappear.

Cbeebies pantomimes and Christmas shows (45-60mins) are well loved. Alice's Wonderland Bakery on Disney+ if you have it is good and is 25mins.

Whitewolf2 · 04/09/2023 21:20

Cinderella could be a good starter one? Or maybe Jungle Book or Tangled.

SquashPenguin · 04/09/2023 21:24

I watched the Little Mermaid in the cinema when I was 3. I’m now 37 and it’s been my favourite film my whole life. definitely no lasting trauma!

Clefable · 04/09/2023 21:24

DD1 had watched Frozen and Moana by then, Moana was her favourite for months and months, we watched it so many times, had the music on all the time. Great film at least! Probably my favourite of the modern Disney films.

Clefable · 04/09/2023 21:25

And I would def rather my child watch Frozen over the utter mindless shite that is that stupid massive-headed Cocomelon baby and his inept father.

ShadowPuppets · 04/09/2023 21:26

Ha, maybe my kids are psychopaths but they’ve taken ‘oh no the parents have died’ pretty resolutely 😂

Saoirse82 · 04/09/2023 21:28

If you think those Disney Films are scary you want to try Darby O'Gill and the Little People, how that's a child's film I don't know how! The banshee and the death coach traumatised me age 3!

Frozen is absolutely fine imo, my nephews were watching it from 2 onwards. I don't recall the little Mermaid being scary but it's been a while since I've watched it.
