Whenever I visit a new town or city I feel jealous of the amount of places there are to sit out in lovely surroundings and have a nice breakfast. I live in a village that has a shop and a church, nothing else. I could drive 15 minutes into town and get a breakfast but it would be at a chain pub on a main road. There's literally nowhere nearby where I could sit outside, people watch and enjoy a nice breakfast and a good coffee on a little cobbled street while reading the paper on a Sunday morning. And it upsets me.

What do you wish you lived close to?

A swimming pool. Nearest proper pool (not part of a hotel/golf club/expensive spa place) is 30 minutes away by car, which adds an hour to a swim.
A decent, affordable gym. There's a small £40-50 a month one about 10 minutes away, a tiny council owned one with no pool 15 minutes away (still not cheap and the room is literally the size of my living room) and a fancy posh one about 20 minutes away that's also £50 a month and has a tiny pool. 30 minutes to the nearest big leisure centre and membership is still over £40pm.

We're relocating next year and I've already checked out the local provision. Should be 10/15 minutes from a council owned leisure centre which costs less than £30 a month.

I once lived in a county with no Waitrose and I slowly became OBSESSED by the place.

Now I'm obsessed by Lidl, but we've just got one and it's fab.

I’m on the Wirral and we have NO WAITROSE despite being the ideal sort of place for one… . The best we’ve got is some bizarre petrol station version which flogs ready meals to unsuspecting caravanners.

Not even a Booths?!

Open-air swimming pool ! would be so lush.

NOT EVEN A BOOTHS!

outrageous! 😱

I wish I could walk to work, it’s just a bit too far. I can cycle or bus. We’ve chosen to live somewhere where we can walk to everything else including many pubs, coffee shops, cafes, outdoor pool, train station.

I live so close to Waitrose I can see it from my front door. I hardly ever go in there, once in a blue moon.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/09/2023 18:34

Booths is awesome. I have 3 branches within 15 mins of my house, one of them 4 mins away.

Craftycorvid · 06/09/2023 07:37

Wow! @AllProperTeaIsTheft I’m envious. We have a Booths in our region but it’s not close enough to just pop round, you’d have to be in the area anyway to make it sensible to shop there.

I'd not swap where we live now, in the BC Rockies. It's stunningly beautiful and is (generally) a very friendly community BUT I do often find myself wishing that the nearest international airport wasn't >5hrs drive away and that the nearest crappy city wasn't ~3hrs drive...

GarlicGrace · 08/09/2023 05:11

The sea, and a busy city. I should not have left Rio 😭

TerfTalking · 08/09/2023 05:26

A huge food market. One that I could pop into six days a week and choose fresh what I wanted for dinner that night based on the best seasonal produce that day.

a bit of the best creamy Lancashire or a big fat Bavarian slice or some fresh squid? No problem, nip into the market.

Supermarket other than coop(nearest are 18 miles away). You can forget waitrose or ocado this is very rural Wales. It's 60 miles to a large town with a primark. Over 2 hours to nearest city. However we are half an hour from some lovely beaches and its quite scenic. Its a tiny town with a few nice cafes and Work is less than 10 mins walk away.
