Train Ticket Office Consultation Closes Tonight

Please tell our profiteering train companies that we need our ticket offices to stay open! Once this service is gone, it’ll be gone forever. Another erosion of customer service by dividend focused train company management.

You have until tonight to add your voice.

YABU - Nope I’m fine with the loss of services.
YANBU - I agree we want these offices to stay open!

Thanks OP!

A bump to try to get more notice!

Bumping.

DP and I were talking about this yesterday and how it will unfairly disadvantage our parents generation. As it is when they fly Easyjet (the only service that runs from them to us) we have to book it for them and print off the boarding passes and send them up in the post to them. We would have to do the same for them for train tickets as they just can't work apps and apple wallets etc. That is ok for them but what about people who don't have someone to do it for them?

I fear that the change will be brought in and then afterwards they will say "oh well people are managing just fine" when in reality, the older generation will just stop travelling.

LlynTegid · 01/09/2023 17:44

I agree you should respond if you have not done so already.

This is a proposal forced on the train companies by the government, blame them.

LlynTegid · 01/09/2023 17:45

The main issue to me is not ticket purchase, but a central point for those with guide dogs, and others needing what train companies refer to as special assistance.

cashmerecardigans · 01/09/2023 17:50

Thanks for the reminder. I've done this now. My mum has always used the offices and, as someone without a laptop or smartphone, would be unable to buy a ticket independently if this goes through

Alycidon · 01/09/2023 17:53

Yep - have signed both the online one and the paper one at my local station.

Willyoujustbequiet · 01/09/2023 18:02

Have signed online.

I dread to think how some disabled people will manage. It's appalling.

megletthesecond · 01/09/2023 18:05

Responded and signed the main petition.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/09/2023 18:07

Bumping. It isn just about tickets. It's about knowingly having someone to offer assistance and advice. Also someone to make sure the toilets are unlocked.

We all know that once the offices are closed, they will cut back on station staff further.

Isitsixoclockalready · 01/09/2023 18:07

Signed - I also signed one at a local station previously - fingers crossed.

HerAvatar · 01/09/2023 18:13

Done, and shared on my other SM, thanks OP.

OneTwoThreeShake · 01/09/2023 18:27

Where I live very few train stations have a ticket office and it isn't a big deal so I think if its been deemed inefficient to have them I've no issue with it.

RaininSummer · 01/09/2023 18:29

I’m alright Jack, eh?

I submitted the consultation response a few days ago, and tailored the suggested answer to my own situation (which affects my family, as I'm frail / disabled).

My family all agree that we need more staff at stations, including ticket offices.

SquirrelFeeder · 01/09/2023 18:46

Done thanks for posting this

It's not all about you though. Have a thought for the ones it will affect.....if you possibly can !

This kind of attitude is exactly what is wrong with this country these days - It doesn't affect us/me so we/l won't be bothering 🤦🏼‍♀️

CheersToMe · 01/09/2023 18:56

Done thanks.
As we live in 'God's Waiting Room' it is especially important that older users are not disenfranchised from train travel.

GandTtwice · 01/09/2023 19:17

Done.
My daughter recently had to get help from the ticket office when her train was cancelled at the last minute. Ticket office staff are so useful for everyone in those emergency or difficult situations. You never know when you might need help

Fizbosshoes · 01/09/2023 19:31

I have a season ticket and rarely need to use the ticket office. However if we all travel as a family I often get tickets from there as they know the cheapest fare/best way to do it.

Eg children can travel for £2 with an adult but not all the machines at our station have that option and would charge more for a child ticket.
To buy super off peak tickets you usually have to scroll through several screens on the ticket machine. I know how to do that but it can be quite long winded to find either the cheapest option, or add rail cards etc. If in a rush or feeling under pressure I imagine lots of people pressing the first (usually most expensive) option or not realising there are other options.

peppermintcrisp · 01/09/2023 19:40

Done. It will be awful to lose the ticket office and staff. They are a vital part of the station. I cannot understand this it is absolute madness.
