It's not about being okay with it is it but let's be honest, whatever you say, if they want to do it they are going to do it, regardless of what you say or do.

We're not all so old we can't remember what it was like when we were teenagers? I did way worse than my teens could even imagine.

Educate them on the risks, that's all you can do.

YANBU. I'd be furious with my 15yo ds if he did this. Fortunately he thinks vaping is stupid and makes people look like toddlers with dummies.

This really upsets me. I can't believe they took away our (recyclable) plastic straws, made every drink shit with paper disintegrating into it then allowed these disposable plastic cancer sticks.

I wouldn’t love it but I did worse at 15 and ended up fine. I think at 14/15 a lot of kids vape these days.

Not all teenagers vape. Many refuse to use toilets at school because of other teens vaping there. Bloody nightmare for schools.

I vape. I vape because it stops me smoking. They are a smoking cessation device.

I would be very upset if DS, who has never smoked started vaping as he has no need to.

Whilst I know they are 95 percent safer than cigarettes I also appreciate there could be long term effects we don’t yet know about. Plus it looks rank. And whilst cheaper than fags it’s still money. And bad for the environment. I’m not proud that I vape but it’s better than smoking however

DS is very aware I vape not to smoke and I am addicted to nicotine which is a bad thing. He knows I would be so upset if he vaped. He’s about to start high school where he will no doubt he exposed to it and peer pressure but I’m hoping he’s got through.

YANBU OP. Withhold money etc and try to get him to see this is not cool 😞

Those people saying most kids don't vape really need to hang around outside schools a bit more. It is endemic. That doesn't mean you have to let it slide of course OP, I'd come down hard on this and very much restrict their money.

It's hard. You should make a point of disciplining them but I and a lot of my peers where up to far worse at that age. We all turned out OK.

It depends what you are vaping really
I use British made liquids which are heavily regulated, as are ones sold here
But if you're buying fakes then yeah, all bets are off
Smoking is a much much higher risk for popcorn lung

This. I was smoking at 14. I've turned out all right (and don't smoke now). It's not ideal but teens will rebel and experiment.

I’d have a chat with her about ‘why’. Peer pressure? Looks ‘cool’? Fitting in? Does she actually like it? Is she hooked? What strength is it etc. I suspect it will be for one of the first 3 reasons. My DD confessed in tears to having tried it last year (when she was 14!). She didn’t like it but the ‘popular’ gang were doing it and invited her to try and she didn’t want to look ‘lame’.

Just talk to her. I wouldn’t ground her or otherwise punish I would try and understand the motivations and how best to mitigate.

DDs ‘cool’ mates have moved on to weed and vodka - so having devised strategies for not succumbing to peer pressure has been useful. Keep your comms channels open!

It's like anything - if you buy cigarettes from a shop or alcohol you expect that it's real, or if you get a £10 note in your change but some slip through, it's all under trading standards

just google where vapes are made and you are flooded with reputable news agencies reporting 80-90% of the world’s vapes are made in China. It may be a ‘british’ brand, but it is unlikely to be made here. You have no idea what there really are in those vapes. None.

Fair enough if you use it to stop smoking, but then stop vaping!

I agree with @Auntieobem . It’s very much textbook teenage behaviour. Most of us grew out of it or got bored of it. You want to remove the element of rebellion from it and you will find it starts to become a lot less interesting for them.

I got addicted to nicotine within a few months. Isn’t that normal in your experience ?

Um, OK, then. He can have his drugs via the anus of an abused woman or grown by a 13 year old slave in a storage unit or empty house, sold by a 13 year old who will also be able to hook him up with pills/shrooms, a few girls who will 'party' (because they'll be beaten if they don't - oh and whilst we're talking about it, have you got any friends that would like to come along? Girls maybe?) and the odd class A, combined with tobacco. That won't cause him any issues at all, compared to an Elf Bar.
