AIBU to accept a Housing Association property that's next to homeowners?

Well obviously it's not my AIBU but the question is always asked about HA tenants which singles us out. I don't think homeowners would like it if the question was always asked about them, making them feel lesser beings.

I wouldn't.
They'll install a hot tub and a trampoline next to the fence.

MadameCamembert · 30/08/2023 17:55

I wouldn’t. The housekeeper would be out on the terrace polishing the family silver every morning.

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 30/08/2023 17:56

Well who owns the house?

The bank most likely....so no, Yanbu!

HelpMeGetThrough · 30/08/2023 17:57

We have an HA tenant behind us, he's spot on. Did worry when he moved in, as he was sporting a massive Mohican 🤣 One of the quietest, nicest people you could meet and you never hear the three teens living there either.

He keeps the house nice and has fine sunflowers in his back garden at the moment.

The tenants that were there before? Sodding awful.

Well I don't know but they are homeowners so...

Loving the tongue in cheek answers 😀Yeah, I wouldn’t either, OP - you’d have to put up with all that building noise and disruption when they build the stable for the pony.

Yes, I couldn't take that glint coming through my filthy windows!

Only homeowners if the mortgage is actually fully paid

DancingintheSpoonlight · 30/08/2023 18:02

The country has become such an unequal mishmash of owning, renting, varying opportunities…take it if you like it!
There is no difference to if they also rented or you owned.

QueenCamilla · 30/08/2023 18:02

I'd accept being next to homeowners. They might care about leaking gutters and faulty drainage as it's "their house, their problem".

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 30/08/2023 18:03

I really wouldn't, we live on a mixed development and the homeowner is a right nosey fucker who is always reporting anti social behaviour and stuff to the council and complaining about the HAs maintenance staff.

I wouldn't want to live nextdoor to him, I live with him instead.

*Disclaimer - not suggesting you would be antisocial or even that all HA tenants are. Most of our neighbors are lovely just one arse spoils it.

But they probably can't afford to fix it....even if they can secure a tradesman!

Cost of living and all that

Sapphire387 · 30/08/2023 18:05

Nah, they're bound to be Tories.

Kpo58 · 30/08/2023 18:07

God no! You cannot get them evicted if they have loud parties, rev their cars along the street or any other antisocial behaviour. What if they don't keep their front garden maintained or let the paintwork on their house get shabby? 😱

Beezknees · 30/08/2023 18:11

Don't do it. They'll be constantly twitching the curtains.

Icannotthinkofaname · 30/08/2023 18:12

You do realise that in general, it is the housing association tenants and council tenants that are more likely to display anti social behaviours.
No not all of them by a long way but statistically speaking.
Personally our worst neighbours were homeowners. It doesn't change the statistics.

IfYouMustThen · 30/08/2023 18:14

I wouldn't. The cleaner turning up 3 times a week would get right on my tits.

Boomboomboomboom · 30/08/2023 18:15

A housing association tenancy is not an asset, unlike buying a house. You are being facetious.

I've not posted on the other thread but the onward saleability of a property is always a relevant consideration when buying it.

The fact it is semi detached to a housing association social or affordable tenancy (as opposed to shared ownership) is entirely relevant.

Where are the stats for this? Genuine question, not disbelieving you but curious to know what they are.

It's not a good idea you might end up with a mortgage payer like this next foie.

Spendonsend · 30/08/2023 18:25

I'd be careful. We were next to homeowners and they were very noisy playing piano and trumpet in the night.

Galatine · 30/08/2023 18:29

Don't do it OP they will got very stroppy with you keeping coal in the bath, not to mention the sight of a rusty Ford Cortina in the garden!

FcukTheDay · 30/08/2023 18:32

I mean I do worry about the coming and going of the cleaner and the noise of their lawnmower! I mean, they might scare my drug dealer away.
