AIBU to accept a Housing Association property that's next to homeowners?

Well obviously it's not my AIBU but the question is always asked about HA tenants which singles us out. I don't think homeowners would like it if the question was always asked about them, making them feel lesser beings.

"You are being facetious."

Well-spotted. You must be an intelligent home-owner & not a thicko tenant.

Diffrent · 30/08/2023 18:35

Be careful, it won't be long before one of their cheese-and-wine-addled chums tries to slip you a tenner in exchange for them using your address on their kid's school application.

Don't do it OP they will got very stroppy with you keeping coal in the bath, not to mention the sight of a rusty Ford Cortina in the garden!

Ford Cortina???? That's upmarket. It's usually a shitty old Corsa now.

HelpMeGetThrough · 30/08/2023 18:38

Look out for the Pampas Grass wielding neighbours, their parties could be interesting.

Apparently....

IClaudine · 30/08/2023 18:40

Oh god, they will probably rip their house apart at some point and install bifold doors and decking. And you know what decking means? 🐀🐀🐀😱

Alargeoneplease89 · 30/08/2023 18:44

God no, they would keep moaning about not affording to live and having to eat cheese they found behind the fridge because they dont get "free" housing 😂

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/08/2023 18:48

Don't do it, OP. There's no recourse if they decide to start building an extension between the hours of 8am and 6pm every weekday and 1pm on a Saturday. And they do have a habit of ignoring the end times of the rule, what with them all going out gallivanting off to work whilst normal, decent folk are sat quietly watching Loose Women.

AND you'll get disturbed by them starting their cars up at 7am Mon-Fri and possibly even putting an integrated dishwasher or washing machine on in the evenings. It's completely unacceptable behaviour you'd never tolerate yourself, yet you can't do a thing about it because people will selfishly sell their houses to any old scum with the best part of half a million in their pocket.

Whatswhatwhichiswhich · 30/08/2023 18:49

Don’t do it, they’ll definitely turn their entire front garden into a driveway, refuse to drop the kerb and instead stick one of those stupid plastic ramps to get up into their driveway on the road instead. Assholes that they are.

I mean, their weekly Hello Fresh / Cook boxes are clearly a front for cocaine pushing.

IClaudine · 30/08/2023 18:52

Good point BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz. Middle class cokeheads are terrible neighbours.

Wonkyboobs · 30/08/2023 18:53

Nah don't live next to homeowners. Ours is from Tunbridge Wells and really brings the tone of the area down by voting tory and blaming everyone else for the rats that are apparently nothing to do with the fact we live in a big city. He also reported my downstairs neighbour to our HA for saying casually that she might build a shed in her garden, and- most shockingly- sometimes leaves the house in tweed golf-wear.

IfYouMustThen · 30/08/2023 18:56

I'm feeling personally attacked for my:

Trampoline
Fixed leaking gutters
I like cheese and wine
Bifold doors
Decking
Integrated dishwasher
I do have a dropped kerb though
Hello fresh every now and then
Deffo not a cokehead 🤣🤣

Well who owns the house?

The bank most likely....so no, Yanbu!

statistically more owner occupied homes are fully paid off than have a mortgage - only saying because it surprised me when I found out!

Not sure why statistically HA and council tenants would be more likely to display anti-social behaviours because surely they would have the most to lose? If you're a dick owner there's really very little neighbours can do about it, same with a private renter - the LL usually won't give a fuck as long as they keep getting paid. A council/HA tenant lucky enough to have been allocated a suitable property given the length of waiting lists for most of them will surely want to do whatever they can to hold onto it!

Haretest · 30/08/2023 19:11

Where are the stats for this? Genuine question, not disbelieving you but curious to know what they are.

It wasn't me who posted it but here is some evidence which might be of interest. I don't think it should be a surprise that crime and income correlate? Structural inequalities etc etc.

"Localities with high rates of tenancy in public housing commonly exhibit high crime rates, even when controlling for other salient characteristics of the resident population, and the United Kingdom is no exception"

A tenner? Interesting, not sure if I could buy my cider with that for all my anti social parties!

Oh yes, they don't get free housing like us! We're complete free loaders, I don't want to have to be supplying them cheese out of my benefit money. How will my children get their fags?

Also, like how annoying is it that they are incessantly out on their driveways every Sunday waxing up their BMWs. It's totally unnecessary to flood the street with their perfumey car shampoo water and the sun reflecting off their cars blinds me so I feel like I'm trapped in my home.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/08/2023 21:10

😂

LocalHobo · 30/08/2023 21:17

I did this once. Never again. Constantly having my drive blocked by the Ocado delivery, and every Thursday the noisy arrival and departure of the book club (at 9pm ffs) disturbed my gaming.

You do realise that in general, it is the housing association tenants and council tenants that are more likely to display anti social behaviours.
No not all of them by a long way but statistically speaking.
Personally our worst neighbours were homeowners. It doesn't change the statistics.
Nobody is having a Personal dig.

Could you point me to those stats please I’d really like to take a look

Yes and they never appreciate us council tenants waxing our electric scooters! What with all that blinding you have to put up with, I would put in a claim for disability... because people like us do not work, obviously.

Oh my god! Do they not know that we don't get up till 9pm because none of us work, so inconsiderate of them.
