It is her fault?

Mothers, please teach your sons not to kiss women without asking. Do not find yourself in the position of having to defend your adult son's sexist behaviour by going on hunger strike.

I feel for her, but actually, it might be her fault, thinking about it. AIBU?

Luis Rubiales: Mother of Spanish FA boss locks herself in church and goes on hunger strike

The mother of Spanish football federation chief Luis Rubiales has locked herself inside a church and announced a hunger strike in protest at the "inhumane treatment" her son is receiving following his unsolicited kiss on Jenni Hermoso.

Eh, how is it her fault???? Why should mothers teach their sons? What about their fathers? And as adults, we are responsible fprbour own actions. I make decisions every day that contradict what my parents taught me.

TeenDivided · 29/08/2023 13:16

No it's not her fault. (And why are you blaming the Mum not the Dad?)

He is old enough to know better.

squinker45 · 29/08/2023 13:18

"Why should mothers teach their sons?"

Well I guess you don't have to if you don't want to but the opportunity is there

OP posts:
NotMadeOfStone · 29/08/2023 13:19

Oh honesty fuck off. It's not a woman's fault if her grown adult son chooses to assault women and break the law.

Jesus Christ.

squinker45 · 29/08/2023 13:19

Also I am talking about her because she is the one on hunger strike. I imagine the father has already gone off with another woman or similar. Probably without asking first

tescocreditcard · 29/08/2023 13:21

How can she actually lock herself inside a church though? Surely the priest has a key.

WhateverMate · 29/08/2023 13:25

"Mothers teach your sons" Hmm

Are you on a wind up? Pretty poor subject if you are.

squinker45 · 29/08/2023 13:28

I'm not 'on a wind up'

I'm just asking a question that occurred to me.

Can we as mothers take any blame if our sons turn out to be rubbish? If not, great for us. If so, that's interesting, morally.

Or we could just talk about fashion or whatever, I like that as well

Now you're just being obtuse.

You do realise most kids have two parents, right?

Why is it just the mother's responsibility to teach this? And also what on earth makes you think his parents didn't teach him?

He's a grown bloody man after all. If he hasn't got the memo by now it's no-one's fault but his own.

NotMadeOfStone · 29/08/2023 13:31

Well it's your thread mate! If you'd rather talk about shoes head over to S&B.

On the other hand...this guy is 46. He's had three decades of being an adult to understand what's right and wrong in the workplace. He chose to do wrong, when he had all the evidence of how to treat people decently.

It's his fault. Just his.

Fucking this. Why is everything always women's fault?!

I know, but someone asked if I was 'on a wind up' and said it was a poor subject. I was responding to that.

I think it's an interesting subject. People do blame the parents (again, in the OP I talk about the mother because she is the one in the news).

The question arose because if it were my son who had done what he did I would have called the police myself, and been ashamed (rightly or wrongly) that what I taught him about consent had been ignored. I would be offended if anyone tried to blame me.

I wouldn't go on hunger strike in his defence.

I thought this was quite telling

CurlewKate · 29/08/2023 13:39

I think fathers should teach their sons how to be adult, thoughtful, non misogynist men. Mind you, that depends on the dads being adult, thoughtful non misogynist men....

SchadenfreudeIstMeinMittelname · 29/08/2023 13:40

Of course it is not her fault that he kissed someone inappropriately, he is a middle aged man and should know better, but it is her fault that she is defending his behaviour and making an idiot of herself.

EggOverEasy · 29/08/2023 13:42

Not her fault. FFS.

NotMadeOfStone · 29/08/2023 13:42

Well I wouldn't go on hunger strike either, so let's say there's a touch of dramatics with the mother here.

Still doesn't make it her fault.

GKD · 29/08/2023 13:42

Seeing there’s no age limit on ‘kids’ taking responsibility for their actions, I blame the mums parents (his GP’s) for not teaching her that she needed to teach her son about consent.

OP, YABU. If you're putting the blame on another woman for this whole ridiculous situation, you're as bad as them in my view

CurlewKate · 29/08/2023 13:42

Ah, shit, I didn't realise this was about him! He's a 50 year old man-he's lived long enough to educate himself. And his mother is defending him? Jesus.

andrainwillmaketheflowersgrow · 29/08/2023 13:43

Surely fathers should be teaching their sons not to sexually assault women?

luckylavender · 29/08/2023 13:45

It may not be her fault but she's shown her character.

Hereforsummer · 29/08/2023 13:46

Of course it will always be the fault of a women if a man behaves in a sexist way. It couldn't possibly be down to the man, that would be unthinkable!

Yes , Op.

You are completely right.

Let's blame women for men's actions.
