If you’re going to lob something through the window at least make it something of yours rather than wrecking more of the poor neighbours’ property.

This. Not read all of it cos it's bonkers and pages and pages of the same bat shit crazy advice. This site is getting madder

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 28/08/2023 15:55

Ah, @AliceOlive, my sweet summer child, you seem unaware that CFs exist to whom such a note would be catnip.😹Such people would invent all kinds of damage to non-existent vauables which had been in the house at the time (lor not).

You're not wrong there, but what is the alternative if OP is not to end up as the CF here?

TaigaSno · 28/08/2023 15:55

@WiddlinDiddlin I love the amount of detail you used in your diagram, especially the inclusion of a cat, wonderful work!

Thank you🤗

In regards to the crabsticks, I’m really kicking myself but I actually totally forgot about them and they are now locked in the house. 😫
I was so distracted with the wee on the rug and floor and flustered by the builder waiting for me that I totally forgot.

Should I put a note on the door saying “I’m sorry, my crabsticks are still inside - please ring number 3’s door once you see this” or something?

They’re meant to be coming down tomorrow according to the builder. I’m not sure if they even know whats happened so I appreciate that the note on the door is going to come across as very strange

Glad you got your boy back

You absolutely do need to leave them a note with your contact details so they can get in touch with you about cleaning the rug. Whether you mention the crabsticks in that or when you actually see them doesn't really matter I guess.

Do you get public liability cover with cat insurance btw?

Totallyterrific · 28/08/2023 15:57

Hooray you've got your cat back Catsos! What a beautiful boy he is.
Ignore the trolls. And the people with poor comprehension skills.

zusje · 28/08/2023 15:57

Is your cat insured? It might include 3rd party liability protection for any damage your cat might cause (i know a lot of dog insurances do as standard, unsure if that's the case with cats)

Catsos · 28/08/2023 15:51

😩 I’m really not trying to be. How should I word the note do you think? Otherwise when they arrive they’re going to find my crabsticks in their bedroom and be really confused?

I’m actually just wanting to move at this point. I’m on Rightmove as we speak 😫 I’m so mortified with the way I had to belly flop over the garden fence in full view of my neighbours. None of my neighbours helped either.

Well I don't think you're being weird in a bad way. I was just saying to my husband that if this were my house I would die laughing, be very glad the cat is okay, and probably end up befriending both you and the floofy menace because a no context note about the manky crabsticks in my house is the way to my heart.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 28/08/2023 15:58

Oh, and your buildings insurance may cover your "property" damaging someone else's property.

TaigaSno · 28/08/2023 15:59

@Catsos "Should I put a note on the door saying “I’m sorry, my crabsticks are still inside - please ring number 3’s door once you see this” or something?" 😂

FWIW, if this was my house, as an animal lover, I would see the happy side of this story and you'd become my favourite neighbour. I hope your new neighbours are like me.

DarkPsy · 28/08/2023 16:01

The open tabs on your computer! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

3dogsandarabbit · 28/08/2023 16:01

Nopen - How can damage by a cat be in any way part of building insurance!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/08/2023 16:01

They might think the crab sticks are the builders. I wouldn’t open yourself up to too much “damage” you haven’t seen inside the whole house, they might blame other things on DCat.

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 28/08/2023 16:03

Yayyy!! I’m so glad he’s free!!

I’m really surprised that the owners aren’t MNers!
Perhaps they are but just haven’t been on here this weekend and they’re going to have a shock when they do 😁

Definitely put a note through the door explaining what happened with your house number and phone number.
I’d say in the note you are happy to pay for any damage done.

Goshdarnitgoofy · 28/08/2023 16:04

Honestly, i think you are liable for more than the rug. I’d want the whole house professionally cleaned - cat pee and days old crab sticks. I’d be charging you to fix it all and honestly I’d be fuming, especially as it’s just been renovated.

😂😂😂
I had to go back and look 🤣

At least it was nothing private! Lol

dontletsaskforthemoon · 28/08/2023 16:07

So glad your cat is OK and you didn't have to smash a window. When you see your neighbours turn up, go out to speak with them and explain the crab stick situation. I'm sure they'll see the funny side of things, I know I would if I were them!

Moraxella · 28/08/2023 16:08

@Goshdarnitgoofy me too, this actually happened to our house and you can still smell the cat piss in the wooden floor. Impossible to clean

user1499191107 · 28/08/2023 16:08

I'm sooo glad you got your cat out!!! I would have have done so many of the same things, so don't feel bad or silly. I do hope the owners are lovely understanding cat/animal people too. And ignore some of the horrible comments on here, some people should be ashamed and I'm glad I don't know them in real life!! Let us know how it all pans out with the owners xx

Eachpeachpears · 28/08/2023 16:09

I'm so please the mischievous fluff ball is free. I must admit I had a good laugh at this whole thing but also wouldn't have known what to do myself. I hope the neighbors are kind to you upon their return and see the funny side.

OP you had to look up 'do cats like crab sticks'? 😳

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 28/08/2023 16:13

Ignore the trolls.

No, please don't ignore any trolls that you see - report any actual trolling that you may find so that MN can delete/ban them, as trolling is strictly against MN's talk guidelines.

I'd go for the semi on London Road... looks really nice... exterior, nice... lounge, lovely... oh dear.

I'm pleased the cat has been released.
Moving is a good plan perhaps. Crabsticks. HAHAH. They're going to stink.

You did what you had to do though.

MumGMT · 28/08/2023 16:18

DeanElderberry · 28/08/2023 15:52

There is no evidence that the cat broke this catflap - he certainly wasn't able to break OUT of it. The entrance to the access tunnel should have been blocked from the outside.

The OP said

I have a cat who has a bit of a reputation on our street for forcing his way into neighbours homes by breaking open their cat-flaps to steal their pets food. He’s been doing it for years.

So even if he didn't break it she's lucky that until now he hasn't caused more damage.

Also what's the point of having a cat flap if they're going to block entrance from the outside?
