I saw this movie when I was 18 and did not get it. I am now a 35 year old mother and this movie is really speaking to me. Is this a sign I am now very very old in spirit?

I'm 60 and I watched it again today. It makes you sit up and look at your life that's for sure.
It's a great film and Pauline Collins is absolutely superb as Shirley.

I think many of us can relate to losing part of ourselves once we have a family and that time just seems to fly by so quickly

Its a brilliant film Pauline Collins is fantastic

I'm never been overly keen on Shirley Valentine, which was written by Willy Russell.
It always felt like mansplaining.

Missing point of thread but every time I watch it I remember how nice the sauce was that lives on the kitchen table - HP all sauce, it was lush! But yes, the film definitely resonates more the older you get.
