Don't want to go to my local village pub anymore

Told mate if he wants to meet for a drink I'd rather head into our nearest biggest town.

I'm sick of visiting my local village pubs..

Sausage fests.

They're all the same.. same middle aged blokes with beer guts, leathery skin from decades of smoking and alcohol abuse.

They all sit around the bar spouting the same ol cringe banter and low brow humour.

Crap innuendos and sinpery to the bar staff women who probably hate their jobs and the customers

I was sat in there the other day and I just wanted to leave. £5 a pint to be surrounded by simpleton pleb blokes who are in there everyday.

I'm a 37 yo guy I might be turning into a grumpy old git.

I am sure they love you too!

Ageist

Not like you are far off middle age yourself really though, David.

thus thread is like a promo for Wetherspoons…

village pubs are struggling, use it or lose it. Your choice, your money.

Love our village pub. No food, handpulled proper cider, darts and cracking banter with the old farmer brigade! If you don't want to interact with them then that's easy as they all sit at the bar so just choose a table well away from them but guaranteed by doing so you are missing out on some fantastic stories and history of your village. Plus the spectacle of them all trying to get back home on a Friday and Saturday night, 9pm the road is just full of them swaying about trying to cross the green 😄.

Riiiight…

I quite like places like that, but if you want to go into town Dave, then no one is stopping you.

I love a village pub. Surely you go with company of your choice. Why does it matter who else is there? It’s a village pub, you can walk home and that’s the beauty! They’ll close if not supported.

Pinkdelight3 · 26/08/2023 16:35

But that's who goes to the pubs in those places and keeps them going. If they didn't go, the village pubs would close. They're not going to make a go of it from anyone else are they? They need these low-key long-term alkies and guys who don't want to hang out at home. If you want a different demographic, move to a city or go to a coffee shop.

That is exactly my thought when I first read the post. David and his mate popping in for a couple of drinks every so often doesn't pay the bills. Ask any landlord. He wants the drink till you fall down brigade in every night.

Traditional village pubs are sadly a dying breed. I spent nearly 25 years working behind the bar in a few of them and loved every minute of the banter (mostly terribly un-pc) and, as you call it, low brow humour from the leathery old locals!
Our village pub is still very much like that in some respects and is very popular, with the clientele ranging in age from late teens to octogenarians!
If that's not your thing then simply don't go. Personally I'd probably detest the type of place you'd prefer. Nothing unreasonable about having a preference.
