I've left this super last minute and I'm now panicking. Wedding is Friday with the wedding breakfast starting at 9am and I'm busy most of today. I've seen a dress online that's pretty but it's labelled as a bridesmaid dress.

Wibu to buy this (and pray it fits and I like it on) and wear it as a wedding guest? I got so caught up with summer hols I just thought I'd have time

I have this already but wasn't sure if it was 'wedding style' I have a full leg sleeve and wasn't sure if it's appropriate to have it on show

Are these really the only three dresses you can find? 😅

HelpaFriend85 · 24/08/2023 07:57

is this a Christian wedding? Is there anything you need to cover for the traditional ceremony?

burnoutbabe · 24/08/2023 08:00

A traditional ceremony first suggests another culture so the outfit suggestions may be way off in terms of what is suitable for that event-ie henna colour or Japanese tea ceremony or a "hide the shoe from the groom" one.

Happiestinmygarden · 24/08/2023 08:02

I think they do look a bit bridesmaid/evening wear, I think a maxi with a print or more than one colour would be great and look less bridesmaidy than these.

ErmWhatever · 24/08/2023 08:26

Not sure about navy for an August wedding. Probably wouldn't go ankle length either.

But tbh, as long as you're not wearing white or bridesmaid colours, I doubt anyone will give much of a shit.

concertgoer · 24/08/2023 08:57

I like the halter neck one.
I think the stroppy one is a bit too much cleavage for an all day event! It’s more evening. Especially with the sparkles.

the halter neck one is suitably plain and not creating a focal point on you as a guest, whilst still being a stunning dress !

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/08/2023 09:01

I'm more curious about a 9am start!

Pollydarling · 24/08/2023 09:37

Next have some brilliant options.

Chickychickybye · 24/08/2023 10:00

the two dresses you have posted are v bridesmaid. I’d go with the printed shorter dress you already have and express your individuality with your leg sleeve. People overthink these things far too much.
But your disorganisation of leaving this so last min is making my head spin a bit- I would have planned much earlier 😫
Enjoy the day! I’m also curious about the 9am start- v odd!

I think sometimes having shoulders covered would look more elegant and I hate to say it but that depends on size. I had a few guests wearing light strappy dresses at my black tie wedding and because they were on the larger side looked disappointingly fleshy.

Try Romans Originals. They have 20% off today.

Next day delivery you have to pay for returns but they are RM tracked.

I bought this for a black tie this summer and I really felt special in it.

I love the short one you already have. Looks great.

Do I understand correctly that your concern/reason you are looking for a floor long dress is a full-leg tattoo?

If the wedding is rather formal, I agree the floor length is indeed the easiest way to not have to deal with it.

The short dress with visible tattoo could be ok for more relaxed wedding or so, but you'd have known if it was the case, with religious & registry ceremony it probably isn't.

Because of the tattoo, I'd avoid the lengths between. Either cover it or own it, half -covering might end up weird.

You were disappointed with how your wedding guests looked?

Great dresses on roman for weddings. There is a roman shop in Southampton if ever you are that way

Some people are weird... Wear whatever you want. There is no such thing as inappropriate wedding attire unless you chose to wear jogging bottoms or a merengue white dress to someone else's wedding.

Pebblepaint · 24/08/2023 12:51

I don't think they're particularly bridesmaid if you were looking for an evening dress, but I don't think they're dresses for a guest at a daytime wedding in UK.

Absolutely, both those dresses are perfectly suitable. You can never be overdressed for an occasion. Have a lovely day.

If this is real this is possibly the snobbiest thing I’ve read on MN

Yes

Sorry forgot to add them 🤦🏽‍♀️

If you like them then buy them, don’t listen to others, it’s you who’s wearing them, no dress code stipulated by bride & groom, so they are suitable
i like them both

Alexa51 · 26/08/2023 06:00

I think the blue strappy one on the right is nice. Actually, I remember a wedding guest wearing a long navy maxi dress and I thought she looked lovely. Elegant yet understated. I went to a wedding recently and everyone really was wearing what they felt comfortable in - a range of dresses and all looked nice. I really think any nice dress is fine. I wore a maxi for a recent wedding and I felt just right in it

nimski · 26/08/2023 10:44

They both look fine to me as long as the colour scheme isn't navy (mine was!)
