To think someone who drinks every single night has some kind of problem

This man im asking about is a lovely person. Works every day, very kind person, very good around the house for cleaning and cooking and helping his partner (my friend) but has never gone more than 2 nights without drinking cans. Will have at least 7 or 8 cans every single night, sometimes more depending on what time he starts drinking. His job isn't a stressful one so it's not to de-stress after work but he says it's a comfort thing for him. I dont buy it I think he has a problem. She has 2 boys, one is a teen and she doesn't like him drinking like that in front of them but still doesn't think he has a problem. Am I just being OTT or is this normal for some people???

Some people drink wine with their dinner, because they're posh like that.

Your point?!

Your point?!

I was trying to quote the post you were quoting.

>I disagree. I feel like one glass of anything a day is too much.

My point is some people have a glass with a meal every evening of their adult life, but it's not problematic. Just the way they live.

I agree.
It's cultural, for the most part, as well.
Very different from being drunk every single day.

He is an alcoholic. Thats alot. He sounds functional though but still its a harmful amount to be drinking.

OP if your friend looks at this she will be able to make a rough guess as to whether his drinking is problematic or not

which is a whole different ball game to him realising this and deciding to do something about it of course, but its a useful yardstick for her

I think drinking everyday - even if a glass of wine is problematic. I think it's generally recommended to have alcohol free days. Even the health benefits of red wine have been massively overplayed as the amount of reservatrol is tiny to be in any way beneficial. Of course 7-8 cans of beer is a problem.
