Just for fun to take our minds off the huge, horrible stuff in our lives.

I have one for the prettiest thing that annoys me - DCat1, when she pinches DCat2's food (they're both on prescription diets). 😸

My peepy, bleepy microwave. It peeps when I don't open it IMMEDIATELY because I'm through getting something out of the freezer.

My house is the size of a stamp, I'll be 30 seconds. I'm not navigating Downtown Abbey. Stop bleeping!!!

Those twee warnings at the start of a TV programme such as 'This programme has scenes that some people may find upsetting', then if you're so sensitive don't watch Midsomer Murders and so on, there's a clue in the title!

Oh yes, and before the start of The Yorkshire Vet a warning the programme contains scenes of veterinary surgical procedures.....well I bloody hope so 😂

People who loiter near zebra crossings with no intention of using them.

I hold my hands up. I was picking up DD from her Dad, met half way (walking) crossed over the crossing and then had a chat her weekend etc. And it was only when the bloke pipped us, I said oh shit! I'm so sorry!!! Filthy look and he was gone.

Haven't done it since.

ToWhitToWhoo · 19/08/2023 15:38

That !!! automatic door at my workplace, which has (as one would say of people) NO spatial awareness, and quickly automatically shuts and tries to knock you over when you're still going through. As a slightly disabled person who can't walk fast, it's both infuriating and scary.

The fire alarm at my block of flats which too often malfunctions and goes off when there is no smoke, let alone fire. At least now it only happens every few weeks; at one point it was every other day.

AnneAnon · 19/08/2023 19:32

Incidentally what is the etiquette for when you press the button at a crossing and then a gap in the traffic presents itself before the green man?

i took advantage of such a gap the other day (about 20
seconds before the lights changed so I was across the rod just before the lights changed to red) and some white van man gave me dogs abuse.

Clearly his petty annoyance.

Another of my petty annoyances is car drivers who behave as if they have a god-given right to go everywhere really fast at the expense of cyclists and pedestrians.

So my own etiquette says "press every crossing button you see and make car usage as inconvenient as possible."

Just seen the post above about the doors nearly knocking you over - this made me think of ticket barriers at stations which are so worried you might tail gate that they slam back and nearly break your arm if you don't get through fast enough.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 17/08/2023 14:11

Men who faff with luggage esp on planes. You’ve just spent half an hour on your arse in the departure lounge. Why do you need to faff NOW!?

And why don't they board planes from the back (assuming the doors are at the front)?

Yep, and if it isn't an Audi it's a BMW or Merc. Twats. 😡

This morning I was driving back from parkrun and had one of those pick-up vans in front of me - for some reason they were going very slowly for the road. A car came up behind and beeped me. Well what am I meant to do about it?

(I have a small car so the car behind me could see very clearly that I had a van in front of me).

enchantedsquirrelwood · 19/08/2023 22:12

People who use the word "parenting" when they mean "looking after kids".

@HuntingoftheSnark I am a cleaner and hate the smug look on Henry! He seems to be in every shop I go in as well! The twat! 😳

I dunno what the etiquette is, but I don't cross until it's my light now. Time was I might, but these days I can't move fast. I'm also more conscious of the light sequence since learning to drive a couple of years ago. (My petty annoyance there is people crossing in the middle of a very busy shopping street that has multiple zebra crossings and pedestrian lights - ffs walk a few yards further!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 20/08/2023 12:55

I don't see the issue with crossing the road between crossings. Better that I choose to cross when I think it's safe, rather than go to a crossing and wait for a green man and cross just because it's green but a car carries on going. I hate the idea in Germany that you always have to wait for a green man even when the road is empty. I think it's safer for me to use my own judgment.

Workers in customer-facing jobs who clearly hate their customers.

Nah, I don’t hate my customers, some come in every day, possibly for the chat and many of them I adore and will say hi outside of work too if I see them about. I just can’t stand idiots 🤷‍♀️

My mum constantly using 'cum' when she texts:
'Hi, when are you cum to time'.
Drives me fucking loopy.

It would depend on how slowly they were going in relation to the speed limit and road conditions such as weather, hazards ahead, etc. As for the twat behind you, I'd have either ignored them or flicked the bird depending on my mood at the time. 😁

Not really petty but access to toilets - or lack of it.

Too many councils closing them, refusing to maintain them (they DO have the money, they choose to spend it on other things) and too many cafes and the like being precious about who uses them.

And then whining if someone goes behind a bush. Well what did you expect?

And that's just for "normal" people - what the heck you do if you have a disability goodness only knows.

That I can respect and agree with your point of view.

Costa have the code system so only if you buy x can you use them.

If in emergencies some times I've used dentists, hospitals, vets, car dealerships, garages, a mix of businesses.
