Sooo.. I'm in need of some extra cash. I work part time but cannot up my hours for a few months. I've signed up and made my account. The pay isn't great at 18p per minute and I'm conscious it's part of the sex industry which I do feel strongly about. It feels wrong to feed into that industry and I guess a lot of the women on these lines are vulnerable and doing it for the same reason as me. Desperately needing money. Im not going to do it for long. When I can up my hours I will stop doing it (unless im successful and actually make some decent money from it!) please don't judge me, i need to feed my child and pay my bills.

So my question is, has anyone done this before? Any tips? I've done my 'training' and I have my portal and im ready to start answering calls. Im nervous. Im going to get some seedy men but times are hard at the moment. Posted on chat but didn't get a single reply so shamelessly posting here. AIBU to try the sex industry? It's a reputable company, my supervisor seems lovely and has done it for years. It's pretty strict though, you get various strikes for not answering a call within 2 rings. You're not allowed to hang up unless they are under 18 or talk about incest etc. I'm worried it's going to warp my view of men, but I'm at a loss on what to do. I can't get another part time job around the job I already have so this seems like the only viable option.

I did the phone lines for a short period of time and it's not worth it in my opinion. I imagined it would be drunk lads or lonely men or whatever but I couldn't stomach it because the calls were way more disturbing than I could have ever imagined. A HUGE number of them wanted me to pretend to be a child (I refused), one wanted me to pretend to be his mother who had just walked in and caught him wanking into her underwear, another wanted me to racially verbally abuse him, one basically wanted me to say the word "panties" over and over, another was telling me he's walking around outside his caravan and could I tell him to piss himself, the whole thing was eye opening to me and made me have a terrible view of men for a long, long time.

I moved onto online financial domination then for a while which was much better and far more lucrative but didn't sit right with me morally. I also sold used underwear online for a while which was okay but I found a lot of men just try and get you to talk to them for ages before making a purchase or after having made a purchase would just keep messaging wanting more and more of your time so you have to be good at telling them that you're only selling underwear not your time but then they get shitty.

I'd never get into any of it again. If you do phonelines I'd set up something by yourself, at least you'd be getting paid better that way but for the pittance you actually receive its definitely not worth it.

That's terrible pay? Are you a single parent? If not, or if you coparent and have some child free evenings, I would advertise as a babysitter or Saturday cleaner- you could charge £13 /h for that. I think you could also be an online English conversation teacher - look into that?

I know it's not great pay but it would be okay as a top up to my okay paid part time job.

Unfortunately I'm not in the position to do cleaning jobs. My health won't let me.

(As in I clean my own home and I'm okay do run my own home but I can't stretch to another home)

(It's me, the OP but I've NC as I couldn't be arsed typing that mammoth username haha). So i started it. It's been interesting to say the least. People are not wrong when they say you have to be open minded and have thick skin. About 20% of the calls are general chat, lonely people I guess. Talks about anything and everything. Sometimes they end down the adult route sometimes they don't. A lot of people hang up randomly, which is fine, as long as they're on the phone for a few minutes as it'll be a total waste of time. Calls come in thick and fast and you have to answer straight away. I've never not had any calls. It's certainly not something I'll do for the long run, as I'll be in a position in a couple of months to go full time at work. But it is quick easy money. I've made £60 this week just doing a couple of hours on the odd evening. It feels very unnatural and a bit awkward at first talking all things sexual nature but I just totally detach myself from it. I have a whole persona that's made up. I was sat playing candy crush at the same time. I didn't enjoy it but the general chit chat ones are quite enjoyable!

In a nutshell, not for the faint hearted. I can see doing this for a long time might warp my vision of men which I don't want as my husband is such a good man.

One person kept telling me to tell him how much I wanted him to make me pregnant with his babies. There was a lot of 'I'm going to give you a bastard, tell me you want my bastards..'It was grim. I don't ever want to shame fetishes as lots of people have them but my god there are some strange people walking the streets.

I will never be shamed or embarrassed about doing what I have to do, to feed my child and keep a roof over our heads though. No matter how degrading it is.

You could find out if you are entitled to anything, working tax credits etc included. Use food banks too it all helps.
