Article in daily mail seems random at first glance and full of comments asking so what etc but isn’t their a rumour that Prince William had an affair with this woman?!

Kate Middleton 'went to music festival' with her friend Rose Hanbury

Kate Middleton 'went to music festival' with her friend Rose Hanbury

The Princess of Wales, 41, is understood to have made her first ever visit to a music festival at the weekend, albeit a very upper-class one at Houghton Hall in Norfolk.

CoffeeCantata there's no bitchiness here. Show me.

Also Giles Coren hasn't said he 'invented' any story. He said he repeated gossip that's all. Very different. The reason there was gossip is because William cheating with Rose Hanbury was prime gossip material among their social circle. Gossip is frequently absolutely true but people who don't want to believe what's being said dismiss this passing on of info as 'mere gossip'.

Exactly

The only interesting or surprising revelation here is that someone in her forties has not been to a music festival before.

Well I'm older than her & I've never been to one. Loads of gigs though.

The ‘gossip’, in their circle, was never about Rose herself. As is born out by behaviour between the women since, all that others have flagged.

goodbyestranger · 16/08/2023 12:23

Yes the talk was 100% about Rose Hanbury. About Rose Hanbury and William having an affair. It was precisely about Rose Hanbury. Admittedly talk is that William is a dyed in the wool cheat but Rose Hanbury's was singled out as a long term relationship as opposed to a quick fling. So not sure how you get to the conclusion that the talk 'wasn't about Rose herself'.

Kate insisting Rose was excluded from the circle and threatening to leave dinners etc - doesn't speak of a close bond. There have been a few stitched up incidents to try to paper over the cracks, for pr purposes only. All supremely unconvincing.

@goodbyestranger

No. Perhaps the answer isn’t quite so, ‘pedestrian’…Look at the more historic family history, which oft repeats.

HopeMumsnet · 16/08/2023 13:35

Hi there,
We're starting to see some of the personally goading behaviour that is the blight of the Royal Family boards on here, so we just wanted to flag to you all that it's something we take a dim view of.

How exactly do you know all this and as you seem so sure it’s true, who started this ‘talk’ and when?

[Awaits a reply which doesn’t actually verify anything at all].

Kate and her family really don’t seem the types to put up and shut up to me. They’re not aristocracy who would be used to mistresses being the norm. Kate obviously would have been well aware of what happened with Diana and she’s certainly not stupid.

She looks genuinely happy with her family to me and is very well received by the general public in a role she seems to enjoy. An excellent figurehead for the RF, if we’re going to have to have one.

A certain camp would love her to be perceived as a down trodden cheated on wife, forced into keeping up appearances in a gilded prison while being desperately unhappy and desperately wanting freedom!

I think it’s absolutely disgusting that ‘gossip’ like this is perpetuated by people who have absolutely no evidence and probably have their own agenda.

Kate and her children will be aware of all this ‘gossip’, and William too and if it is just gossip started as a PR war, can you imagine how hard it must be to have to maintain ‘a never complain, never explain’ face in the face of such provocation?

Well yes obviously this sentence is calculated to elicit a response :)

SleeplessInShoeburyness on the one hand you say Kate isn't the type to put up and shut up but then go on to ask how hard it must be to put up and shut up in the face of all the gossip.

It's not possible for you to say that there is absolutely no evidence of an affair - that's an astonishing claim. Also, I don't think any gossip was shared as part of a 'pr war'. Wasn't it rather gossip shared because it was known to be a fact in Turnip Toff land? The lame pr is chasing the gossip, not initiating any.

nokidshere · 16/08/2023 17:54

I'm in my 60s and have never been to one.

VanCleefArpels · 16/08/2023 18:29

Everyone saying that the “affair” was “common knowledge” amongst the turnips/palace staff/ granny’s cleaning lady’s SIL / whatever..

Do you really believe that NONE of this apparently wide group in possession of actual proof has not gone to any media outlet anywhere in the world where they could basically name their price to hand over said “proof”?? It just doesn’t stand up to the most basic of scrutiny in the face of much evidence to the contrary

VanCleefArpels · 16/08/2023 18:30

(Superfluous “not” there - but you get my drift!)

goodbyestranger · 16/08/2023 18:58

VanCleefArpels the people in that social circle are all by definition very rich and beyond that, would instantly trash their social and domestic lives. There is literally no incentive - plenty of discincentive though. Also 'proof'? Very clearly people have talked - how else do you think journalists know about the affair? But no-one with an ounce of sense is going to allow their name to be put out in the public domain.

FeelingHelpless99 · 16/08/2023 19:17

Anyone else struck by the fact that there’s no proof Kate Middleton actually attended any rave or if she did so, it might not have been with Rose Hanbury?

Both women might be keen enough to approve this narrative without spending a minute in each other’s company, just to shut down the persistent rumours / public paternity speculation, etc.

LadyEloise1 · 16/08/2023 19:30

Well, if the gossip is true I wish and hope it isn't William clearly has a type. Waif thin, tall brunettes.

Maireas · 16/08/2023 19:37

Crown Princess Mary and Princess Marie should be on their guard, eh, @LadyEloise1 ?

I don't think, even if the gossip were true that Kate necessarily is suffering in an unhappy marriage. She may be happy with her children and lifestyle and knows that, no matter how many women William sleeps around with, she is the future Queen and mother to the future King. I get the impression that not marrying Camilla was just an unbearable consequence for Charles, and that he would be happy not being King and pottering around on his estate with her. I get the feeling William actively wants to he King and will do what's necessary to make sure that happens. So he won't be falling in love with anyone, or leaving his wife if he does. Diana knew Charles didn't love her and wanted to be with Camilla. Charles had other mistresses but it was Camilla who was the problem.

‘Brunettes’ possibly turning grey…if (insider) gossip true & easier for K & R to bond, & eventually look past…

Journalists don’t know about an affair. They know about the rumours of an affair. As I said previously if they had any actual knowledge they would print it

FeelingHelpless99 · 16/08/2023 19:51

Photos of what, though? Kate talking in a pub-type setting?

FeelingHelpless99 · 16/08/2023 19:51

They can’t print anything if there’s an injunction in place.

VanCleefArpels · 16/08/2023 19:54

An injunction eventually needs to have a hearing. Don’t you think that if it actually existed newspapers would have been to court years ago to get it lifted? And English courts injunctions have no power overseas where the press have way fewer scruples (cf topless Kate photos) - don’t you think they would have published something by now?

goodbyestranger · 16/08/2023 20:14

VanCleefArpels journalists know about the affair and it will be written about just as soon as that’s possible.
