To not feel the fear and do it anyway

Feeling a bit pathetic! Am in France at the moment in the Alps and partner, kids & friends going up Europes highest cable car tomorrow. 12,000 ft - massive drops. I just can’t bring myself to do it- I HATE heights and cable cars so it’s a double fear whammy. Am going to go up on a mountain train instead but feeling a bit disappointed in myself- I have been up in it before and it was scary & the altitude was also debilitating.

Aibu for being a bit of a wuss and staying in my comfort zone? I really have thought about it a lot but feel like I am setting a bad example to my kids of not pushing myself!

I'm just back from an amazing hiking trip in the Alps. One section involved a series ladders over a crag. I am scared standing on a chair.

I so very nearly stayed behind and occupied myself that day, but I knew I'd be cross if I did and that once I was there I'd have no choice but to do it. Then I had to come down in a cable car!!

I did it, it was amazing and two weeks on I'm still buzzing at the sese of achievement and looking for my next challenge with a genuine feeling that I can achieve anything.

It was very tempting to wimp out, I very nearly did, but I am so so chuffed with myself.

Good for you.

OP, take the train.

Anyone watching Heart of Stone? Looks like it was filmed on the cable cars - even MORE of a big fat no now!

This reminds me of how the car would swing at every tower and how it literally winches you up the rock face at the end.

Horrific.

That looks amazing actually. The one going past going down looked really fast 😁. But if you've already done it, OP, no need to go again. And presumably you didn't today. I think I'd find that quite exciting but would never get in a helicopter, for example.
