Kids should stand on public transport?

I was on a crowded 1.5 hour train where half of the passengers were standing. There were 3 kids ( not together, each with an adult) who were sitting in a seat, I would guess they were all roughly the same age, around 6 years old.
I thought that kids that age should either stand or sit on their parents lap (I know that's not the most comfortable but standing for an hour and a half isn't either).
What do you think? I just thought it was messed up that these kids were chilling in seats while you had a lot of people in their 50s/60s (not old, not visibly in discomfort) standing, but then I wondered whether it's harder for a child to stand at that age (I don't have kids).

If there was anyone who you think should have been offered a seat, why was it not equally messed up that none of the adults offered either.

so the train was full of adults standing, but you can’t see how a 6 year old standing amongst a train full of adults standing around them could be dangerous? They could fall, get crushed no one could even notice. They got get pushed out in the rush of people leaving and coming on to the train, they have to be strapped into car seats until the age of 12 in the UK it’s a legal requirement you would get 3 points for not complying so how would standing on a fast moving train be better for them? Anyone within the age of 15-50 should offer their seats to the less abled. If you have an issue with standing, you can easily get a badge or simply ask someone but just to single out the children is weird.

Why do you feel people who don’t look particularly uncomfortable or old are more entitled to a seat than a child just because they’re an adult, that is ridiculous. I think people often forget a child is a human being too, no wonder the world is like it is with how people have so little respect for children as HUMAN BEINGS too. Why should the children sit uncomfortably for 1.5hrs on their parents knee or stood up if they got to a seat first.

I am a fit pensioner (female). Would not like to think that anyone would feel any obligation to give me their seat. In practice this kind of courtesy should be based on need. For example I immediately hopped up for a teenage male who was struggling with crutches. Also, you can't determine anyone else's state of health or well-being just by looking at them or because they are young.
