AIBU to think that I can’t trust this ingredient list

So I bought Benefit (the makeup brand) toning foamer, I checked the ingredient list before I bought it as I react badly to Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and it wasn’t in the ingredients list.

Got home and double checked the website ingredients list and found that it said it had Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate…

I contacted Benefit head office to get my money back as I thought they were the same thing (double checked today and they arent but thats not my point)

I received a reply saying SLS is not listed on the website ingredients list

and they are right it isn’t….it was yesterday though, and I do have the photos to show that

so AIBU to not trust their ingredients list

Send them the photographic proof that you have and see what they reply with?

Glittertwins · 09/08/2023 13:07

The two things are different formulations so written differently but I'm not a chemist nor do I have your allergy cut I would be questioning it before I opened it

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 09/08/2023 13:07

They're not the same chemical. So benefit aren't wrong.

pamplemoussemousse · 09/08/2023 13:07

I'd go by the actual bottle not website which may be outdated, but they should have communicated back to you that they'd removed it and why, not lied!

Glittertwins · 09/08/2023 13:09

Yes, website far more likely to be out of date rather than the product packing itself

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 09/08/2023 13:09

SLSA is considerably less harsh than SLS.

ToxicBiennial · 09/08/2023 13:11

The person who responded to you might not have realised it was on the website and subsequently removed. By another person.

HiHoHiHoltsOffToWorkWeGo · 09/08/2023 13:13

What does the actual packet say?

If it's a skin irritation reaction not anaphylaxis, test a small bit on an inconspicuous bit of skin (e.g. your inner elbow)

They are wrong because its still not on yesterday’s ingredients list

Absolutely my point, i did just say that to them

i would have been quite happy with ‘the website is out of date and has been amended’

the reaction is usually on my face but thats a good idea for bidy stuff rather than me slathering it all over 😀

@RufustheFactualReindeer but what you accused them of was having SLS in the ingredients list. Which it wasn't even if sodium lauryl sulfacetate was as, by your own admission having checked, they're not the same chemical.

JudgeRudy · 09/08/2023 13:42

I'm confused. You bought a product after checking its label for A. A wasn't on list of ingredients. After buying it you double checked their website and it stated that the product you had just bought contained B, a similar sounding product (not an irritant but a mild foaming cleanser). You then asked for your money back, presumably because you didnt like the sound of B. No refund was offered and the manufacturer assured you that their ingredients list is accurate (today). You believe it wasn't yesterday.
What do you think was showing on the website yesterday thats either inaccurate, or no longer there? It does contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate. That's listed. Unless I've misunderstood, I can't see what the issue is. Do you feel that the product label should specify Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate? Do you object to some foods saying 'flavourings' or perfumes saying Aqua? What have I missed?

Ditto to the above

So an ingredient you're allergic to isn't listed on the bottle or the website but you want your money back?

No I am quite happy without my money back....

I am unhappy that instead of saying ' we have updated the website they have just changed it and have not acknowledged that their website had the wrong information on it

I am just popping out so will respond to the longer post when I get home (and have my glasses on...its all fuzzy, fuck knows what I am actually typing 😀)

KrisAkabusi · 09/08/2023 14:06

No, I've read it all and I still think you've read two different ingredients (and namechanged for some reason). Can you post the photos here that show what you're claiming?

Yes, as soon as I get home

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 09/08/2023 14:43

I forgot I'm a different name on my phone...I was ion my ipad earlier

FelicityBeedle · 09/08/2023 15:02

The customer service agent won’t be the same person who changes the website, and won’t have access to previous iterations. It’s likely been updated as a matter of routine since you looked at it

GoodChat · 09/08/2023 15:22

I'd be impressed if they got their website updated that quickly on the back of your email!

Fair point, weird coincidence 😀
