About to lose my mind - checked through passports this morning and realised that daughters passport expired in July of this year not July of next year as I thought. Can't use the premium service as its a child and no appointments available anyway. Have fast track appointment in Glasgow 0830 on Tuesday but we fly Saturday morning. Its the first time we've been abroad in 4 years. Can't believe we've been so stupid, she's been talking about this holiday non stop.

It doesn’t run out then, this is incorrect.
if you are traveling to the EU, your passport will only be accepted 9 years and 6 months after date of issue no matter what the expiry. You can still travel to other countries (eg my husband traveled to outside of the EU with a passport issued more than 10 years ago)

Essentially it does run out if you are travelling to the EU. I have 10 years and 8 months left on mine but it is only valid for 10 years (well 9 yrs and 9 months really)

I was wrong re the 6 months (well actually the agent was when she told me) as I can actually go to 10 yrs 2 months for the destination I am going to that needs 6 months left.

It's craziness! And not really surprising that people are getting it wrong. It must be devastating for those couples turning up for their trips and not being able to go, the ones I've seen have all been elderly, very upsetting for them.

Hi op. Hope you got the passport x

blackforesthotchoc · 09/08/2023 13:06

Thanks for asking- we got the text today saying they've been printed and we should receive them soon. No message from the courier as yet so its definitely squeaky bum time as I know they normally take a few days to deliver from when they get it!

I find myself in a situation quite similar to yours, OP. The only differences being is that my travel is scheduled for Sunday and instead of dealing with an expired child passport, I'm currently facing the issue of a lost adult passport. Yesterday, I had an appointment in Glasgow at 08:30, adding to my stress. I'm hoping that my passport arrives by Saturday. It's completely my own fault, and I've been quite stressed about it. However, reading about others who have received their passport before altering their holiday plans has helped alleviate some of my anxiety. Still, I won't be completely at ease until the passport is back in my hands. Let's hope that both you and I receive our passports before our travel dates. Wishing you all the best.

Well done a Glasgow passport office.

In fact, big shout out to passport offices generally. They are so helpful in my experience.
