To think it must be possible to make £10k a month online?

mammaneedsadrink · 05/08/2023 12:59

Basically I want to earn more money, but I also want to be able to have a life and spend time with my kids. Me and DH both work full time and we earn a very decent income, however, whilst on paper we are probs in the top 1%, in reality we are not rich at all (although we are comfortable). I see all these posts on social media about warning 10k a month online from just a few hours a day. AIBU to think this must be possible some how? Surely all these people can't be lying? Has anyone (successfully) built one of these online businesses, or know someone who has? How do they do it?!?!

@GenieGenealogy Exactly what I was thinking.

“Of course it's not possible or everyone would be doing it. “

Learn to code

I had to change username just to respond to poster who recommended this to earn 10k a month. You can’t! It’s not as easy as people make out. I’ve got a 2:1 degree and masters in computing and I earn no where near that. I retrained as a teacher of computing and I’m actually getting more now than would be working in industry.

Obviously this is not what I would ever tell parents or students but truth is you cannot earn money in coding UNLESS you’re absolutely amazing and a genius at it. Normal people wouldn’t be able to earn much. I always encourage my students to learn it but in truth you can’t earn enormous amounts unless you’re gifted. It’s a good skill but it doesn’t automatically give you a high earning figure.

I’m just watching confessions of cam girl. You certainly don’t need a perfect body. It’s not the job for everyone, but it appears to pay a lot!

I used to work for the vice squad and I'd say people are attracted to all sorts of body types/ages etc. It was quite an eye opener.

Anne221 · 05/08/2023 15:53

Sorry to respond to poster: of course it’s a scam! They wouldn’t be trying to lure people in if it was genuine

6WeekCountdown · 05/08/2023 16:07

How can you be in the top 1% of earners and be so gullible? If you are already a high earner I'm not really sure what more you want? Money for nothing? Surely you realise to make so much money for doing nothing much you are either doing something that comes with high financial risk (eg gambling), is illegal (drug dealing, money laundring) or unsavoury (sex work, camming etc). I do know someone who earns very well for a few hours work a day, he's some sort of IT engineer and is paid for his skills, if something major goes wrong he knows how to fix it, generally speaking he just keeps things ticking along and fixes minor issues (to him) he's efficient because he's so skilled. They also own lots of properties they rent out, that makes them a tidy amount for doing not much, they obviously had the money to buy the property in the first place though.

mysingingmonstersfan · 05/08/2023 16:18

Anne221 Thanks for the perspective about coding, it's seems it's currently promoted everywhere as being a great industry to get into and there are so many coding for kids courses everywhere!

If £10K a month jobs were easy to come by, I'm sure we'd all be doing them. 🙄We've no idea of OP's skills or abilities, so decent career advice is pretty difficult to give.

If OP wants or needs to spend more time with her children, one sensible option is to rethink her family's lifestyle and reduce outgoings so she can reduce hours in a job she's already got, rather than jump into some hare-brained greed-based schemes she spots on the internet.

BarelyLiterate · 05/08/2023 16:29

You claim to be in the “top 1%”, yet you also claim to be so naive & gullible that you think you can earn big money by doing very little and you believe obvious get rich quick scams?

I’m struggling to take your post entirely seriously, OP.

Bs0u416d · 05/08/2023 16:35

I think this must be spam. As PP has pointed, to be 1% earners, OP and her husband need to me making £160,000 PA pre tax. If they're smart enough to be doing that, they're smart enough to know that online ads for earning £10k a month for a few hours work per week, is horse shit.

@nonheme I agree.
The questions on 1% and advice to change lifestyle have already been made at the start and that was fair enough. To keep repeating it is not what she has really asked.

mammaneedsadrink · 05/08/2023 16:44

Wow these responses! I was just asking if anyone had done it, or knows anyone who has! For context, I'm not a high earner, my husband is. Our combined income take us into that bracket. I'm not claiming to be on the breadline, as I said we are comfortable, but certainly not multiple holidays a year, flying first class, living in a mansion or driving around in sports cars comfortable. We live about an hour outside London in a fairly average 3 bed semi. Our mortgage is currently 2k a month and will likely go up when we remortgage in a few months. Full time nursery for 2 kids costs us 3k a month too. Thanks for those who replied with genuine responses, but I'm totally baffled by those who have responded simply to be unkind.

I also agree that whatever you want to do to make money, 99% of people would need to have invested minimum 10 years but usually 20 years before they can really take a seat back and see money flowing in. 1% get lucky and just start something even for fun which then takes off.

I know someone now earning £10K a month working flexibly doing a combination of things, but it took 30 years to get the it there and after £5-£7K that can just come in, she needs to push a bit more to push it to £10K (but not too much pushing- just being creative and adding a few more hours and new touches here and there as one already poster said.)

Yes, you can be in the 1% and still be naive and gullible- I know plenty of people like that.

I agree, none should be unkind. But the Q from this post is, do you want to do it or you just want.." I was just asking if anyone had done it, or knows anyone who has!' Sorry to be dense.

Drug dealer ?

The only person I know doing this illegally (and only making 6k a month) is actually having sex with strangers in car parks off the back of her only fans account (very grim and dangerous)

Legal means are:

  1. Learn to code
  2. Become really proficient at tik tok doing videos so that advertisers want to join with you

Learning to code doesn't translate into 10k a month working from home with plenty of time for the kids. It's a skill which allows you to move into a field where you have a full time job, and will take some time before you're on 10k a month, if ever

Like many your biggest issue is not your income but your outgoings, mainly your mortgage and nursery costs. The nursery fees are temporary so will free up some cash at some point in the bear future which should make like a bit easier.

In which case accept my appology. Ultimately I think it must be possible but not very easy, else it would be much more common. I also think it takes a great does of work to get to the point where you're earning regular income for limited input in terms of time or other resources. Have you thought about drop shipping?

It's not unkind though. It's different perspectives. You have questions, fair enough, but your OP was incredibly tactless to the many people on here who are on the breadline. Many of whom also work hard, but get paid fuck all. So IMO it's understandable when people are a bit 'whatever' when you're so rich you can't decide how to spend your money, and others are planning how to feed their kids for the week.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 05/08/2023 17:21

Create a cryptocurrency, get people to buy it, abandon the project.

Pipsquiggle · 05/08/2023 17:32

From previous research I have done, high earners tend to have higher outgoings so don't necessarily have higher disposable income than people who earn lower.

The childcare years are always hard financially. You need to decide if you are going to use private education in which case I would assume the same outgoings if not more.

If something is too good to be true then it's probably a lie

DrSbaitso · 05/08/2023 17:34

I'm not a high earner, my husband is.

So ask him.

Cerealkillerontheloose · 05/08/2023 17:37

My friends husband is a big player on ‘twitch’. Though it might not be twitch. But he plays games online and earns some 60k a month.

VeridicalVagabond · 05/08/2023 17:38

Living proof that money doesn't buy brains 🙄

BashStreetKid · 05/08/2023 17:42

I know someone who earns a living off running a YouTube Channel. They work extremely hard on filming, editing and writing scripts, because really the only way to keep followers is to keep putting out fresh content that people actually want to watch. They make quite a reasonable living, enough to have been able to give up the day job, but it would be an unusually good month for them to earn £10K. It certainly isn't the easy ride you suggest, OP.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/08/2023 17:56

We earn around £8.5k but my H works very long hours including doing stuff at evenings and weekends, it's a niche business and he is hugely regarded in it and it took 17 years to build up.

Most of these 'opportunities' you see involve scamming other individuals or a combination of sex/ gambling/MLM
