I probably am BU to ask but we’re in Hay for a weekend. It’s rainy today, sunny tomorrow. Two children age 8 and 12. What to do??? Sorry, I know IABU but I need fast answers 🤣

Is there a film on at Booths? Spend ages in bookshops and cafes today and then walk up Hay Bluff tomorrow, or walk along to the Warren and paddle in the river.

Thanks guys! Hay today is the plan. I was hoping for some sort of age appropriate museum/NT house. But the beauty of being here is that we feel we’re away from it all I suppose!

The castle is open again now. That'll keep you busy for half an hour or so. There's a good garden centre down the road at Three Cocks.

Spend the day in Abergavenny?
My personal go to for this kind of scenario is rainy walk (set max time), buy a new board or card game, everyone choose a new book, sit in a nice cafe or pub for a couple of hours. Hot chocolates. Then move on to a different pub when it’s meal time!

The antique shops are quite fun in Hay, we have spent a good hour wandering, chatting and looking at retro cricket sets, chamber pots and weird ornaments. Competition to find the ugliest/weirdest item?

My first thought was Big Pit!
Well worth a visit, allow a good hour to get there, and if irrc you will need to book your entry, but it's very interesting experience and dry!

We didn't go to the Big Pit but I think it looks fascinating for an insight into Welsh industrial history more than anything.

Get yourself to The Old Electric Shop for coffee or lunch, books, lots to look at there, it's really big.

Yes, Big Pit is great, especially pithead baths and museum, and the Stack Square cottages.
