My current main one is 12 characters long and a mix of letters (one upper, rest lower) and 4 numbers.
I sometimes add a symbol to the end.

The version I use for some more secure sites the 'word' part of my passport is a mix of one upper, and the rest made of lower case and numbers (think 1 for I, 4 for a, 5 for s type numbers.

That chart is very misleading, you can only crack your short password in milliseconds if whatever service the password is protecting allows unlimited, full speed attempts.

Your bank or your phone will lock after two or three tries, most websites use some variant of "too many tries" as well.

Not to say don't use good passwords but don't be paranoid either.

Yay most of mine wld take 53 yrs some longer and some def more.

There's a couple though that wld be seconds as they aren't as long so I'll def be making sure I make them longer from now on!

caringcarer · 04/08/2023 12:43

Mine is 12 long has one capital letter not at the beginning. It has one special character and 3 numbers in it. I think it's pretty secure but DH knows it so if we ever split I'd need to change it.

Where does that chart come from @ChittyBangabang ? I haven't seen it before.

(My standard ones are in the yellow zone)

caringcarer · 04/08/2023 12:46

On that chart 226 years.

Cockawoes · 04/08/2023 12:47

All the people saying mine is ..
you need a different password for everywhere that you log into. I save mine to Apple keychain. And randomly make them up. Spot an object e.g yellow banana becomes Y3ll0w_B@n@nA new password sorted and instantly forgot 😂

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/08/2023 12:47

226 years.
I don't anticipate living much more than another 40 years.

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 04/08/2023 12:48

I use Keeper Security across all my devices, all fingerprint reading and it just fills in all my login automatically.

The passwords it generates are enormous

Chesneyhawkes1 · 04/08/2023 12:51

53 years

ErrolTheDragon · 04/08/2023 14:07

Since a change in the requirements at work, that one is now 380 billion years. Glad we have single sign on and they don't make us change quite as often as they used to.

Some of my others could do with being a bit longer.
