My dog ate my visitors shoes 👟

I work as a private tutor- mum and daughter just came for their appointment. I have a young rescue Viszla, I put him out the back as he can be boisterous especially when people visit.

on arrival they had taken off their shoes which was very courteous of them, but I hadn’t asked them to and hadn’t noticed as I had turned around whilst showing them into my teaching room.

During my lesson, the dog had been let in (by either DH or one of the children) and unbeknownst to anyone taken the shoes into the living room.

I wondered why the mum looked confused when it was time to leave and then noticed she wasn’t wearing shoes, I walked in to the living room and one of her shoes was completely demolished with bits of sole and laces all over the floor.

I was obviously massively embarrassed and apologised profusely, thankfully he hadn’t eaten the daughters Nike trainers. I offered to reimburse the mum but she said not to worry as they weren’t expensive. She did giggle but I realise she was probably just being polite.

What made it worse was it was raining and she had to hop to the car in her one remaining shoe, avoiding puddles.

Do you think she’ll come back? Is there anything else I should do to make this ok?

I’m not sure you read or understood the op?

Your OP was understood.

Your dog ate someone's shoes, that is not acceptable.

BlueMasc · 01/08/2023 20:52

'Nobody asked her to remove her shoes'.

Bigolbuttt · 01/08/2023 20:52

Don’t charge her for the session she just had or the next one.

I’d just reduce my tutoring invoice by £50 for shoe destruction.

Nah

£25... she's still got one shoe

It's polite for many people, to remove shoes in other people's homes. In no way is this the fault of the mum or daughter.

Eh?

Never said it was. Was simply pointing out to the poster that seemed to suggest OP had asked her client to remove their shoes, that the OP did not do this.

BlueMasc · 01/08/2023 20:56

Eh?

ClippyClopp · 01/08/2023 20:57

She’s booked for next week and was ‘exceptionally happy’ with the session. I’ve insisted she doesn’t pay but she’s already transferred the money into my account so I guess she’s not too cross and I can move on now

Accept that you were lucky this time.
Keep the dog under control. I don't tutor at home because my dog is an arse.

I also bought a pair of shoes today and they cost £80. From TK fecking Maxx, just keep up the grovelling. And make your clients keep their shoes on.

VestaTilley · 01/08/2023 21:06

Insist on paying her the money back for the shoes.

Thanks for the advice - I won’t be doing anymore grovelling though as I think I have reacted appropriately in the situation and there doesn’t seem to be any further ramifications.

I also won’t ‘make’ my clients keep their shoes on, they can leave them on take them off or balance them on their head for all I care, as long as they’re happy and out of reach of my dog that’s the main thing.

Not sure if you realise or not but you come across as a little bit pompous and superior.

Whats your point about the shoes??? I got some for £10 from TK Maxx the other week, it’s not relevant how much you paid is it.

HalliwellManor · 01/08/2023 21:12

Were the shoes Hush Puppies?
Maybe that's why the dog ate one?🤣

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 01/08/2023 21:13

I'll accept I'm coming across as a little bit pompous and superior if you'll accept you are coming across as a bit flaky.

Hopskiplou · 01/08/2023 21:14

My dog would totally do this. Sympathies OP, it is mortifying, but shit happens. Dogs exist to embarrass us! Forget about it and put client shoes away in future.

Dillane · 01/08/2023 21:14

Why didn’t you lend her some footwear? Letting her hop to the car was ridiculous 🙄

It was kind of you to offer to reimburse them. Take it out of the dog's pocket money!

MaggieBsBoat · 01/08/2023 21:17

You need to reimburse the cost of the lesson at the least (she is obviously too embarrassed to accept) but insist. And bloody train your dog. Awful.

What makes you think I’m not in the process of training?
