To post because I'm 6 years cancer free...

Hi!

Today, I am 6 years free from pancreatic cancer. I was 28 when I was diagnosed and had a Whipple procedure on this day 6 years ago to remove a stage 3 tumour. I also had 22 chemotherapy treatments.

Early detection is key - always push if you don't feel right - you know your own body best.

❤️❤️❤️

That’s amazing! Congratulations Flowers

Borris · 31/07/2023 13:26

Congratulations. Lovely to hear a happy story. Are you out of the woods now? Xx

PerspiringElizabeth · 31/07/2023 13:27

Wow that’s amazing! Congratulations. I thought pancreatic cancer was always the end. How fantastic, you’re so young too!

(happy to admit I am very fortunate to not know much about cancer, touch wood, thank goodness).

LizzieSiddal · 31/07/2023 13:27

Congratulations that’s fantastic.

My MIL was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer during Covid, her operation was cancelled in January 2021 and we thought she had little chance, as she didn’t get it until Aug 21, but she’s doing so well.

Daphnis156 · 31/07/2023 13:27

You have done so well!

All the very best!

evtheria · 31/07/2023 13:28

WOOOOHOOOOO 💕

AGreatUsername · 31/07/2023 13:29

Amazing, congratulations! I am 1 year clear of stage 3 ovarian cancer and live in absolute fear of it coming back, not helped by the “stats”. It gives me great hope that someone else with a statistically bleak outlook is out here proving the stats are definitely not always right! Long may it continue.

CopperSeahorses · 31/07/2023 13:29

Congratulations! That is huge.

DH had a Whipple's, sadly as they were finishing they discovered "something" in his liver despite a clear PET scan eight weeks before surgery. We did the Big Step Forward for Pancreatic Cancer UK in his memory in July.

Thank you everyone 😢😢😢

I'm so sorry to hear your sad stories - pancreatic cancer is a rough one as it's so often detected late. If it's caught in time, prognosis and outlook can be good 😊 but it's heartbreaking when the latter happens - I made friends whilst having chemo and then they wouldn't be there the next week. I was guided through my battle by a guy I knew from Ibiza and he passed away - I do get bitter over the people who didn't make it, but also grateful that I did - it's a double edged sword.

I am out of the woods so to speak, yes, I suffer with pancreatitis fairly regularly now due to my hormones - probably how I developed the tumour in the first place, and do have some physical things going on but I'm here 😊 my babies were both under two when I was poorly and the normal, often tedious mum stuff is what actually makes me most grateful. My surgeon told me that once you hit the 5 year point, you're as likely to get pancreatic cancer again as Joe Bloggs.

I was treated at The Royal Liverpool which is a pioneering pancreatic specialist unit, so whilst I was unlucky, I was also lucky to have them on my doorstep.

Never back down if you know something isn't right - always push, I can't reiterate it enough ❤️❤️

You're all so kind I'm quite emotional reading your messages 🥺

I have a friend who will be 5 years free of ovarian cancer this year ❤️❤️

Never listen to the stats - no two cancers are ever the same. Keep on keeping on, I found this 'after cancer' bit much harder mentally but I promise it gets easier ❤️❤️

@Amybelle88 Congrats, truly amazing. You ve endured so much but look where you are now 💐

CuteCillian · 31/07/2023 13:41

I'm so pleased for you. I lost my Dad to pancreatic cancer when I was a teen. The statistics are still bad but slowly improving and raising awareness is key. So glad you are seeing your LO's grow up Flowers

OnlyYellowRoses · 31/07/2023 13:43

Congratulations 🥳 enjoy your life x x

RedDoughnut · 31/07/2023 13:46

This is lovely to read.

Are you still being monitored?

I hope you will celebrate this day for decades more to come.

Ladyoftheknight · 31/07/2023 13:47

Congratulations, so thrilled you're still here and well! May you have a long and fulfilling life Flowers

inigomontoyahwillcox · 31/07/2023 13:48

Oh what a wonderful anniversary for you. I hope you have a lovely slice of cake or a glass of something nice to celebrate.

I know pancreatic cancer can have such an awful prognosis - so I am so happy when I hear these stories of beating the odds.

I have a check in with my surgeon every 12 months although I could be discharged if I wanted to be - I prefer to check in. My nurse is now my friend so we speak a few times a week (just general conversation not about pc 😂) and if I ever had an issue I can have it addressed straight away.

I went from 3 monthly, to 6 monthly bloods then to where I am now 😊
