Does anyone know if corsa automatic cars are good? I’m in need of an automatic car probably wrong time to buy as prices are crazy but probably only going to go up .

looking at a corsa 2018 30k miles 13k sounds ok?
does anyone know if there good ? Or any other suggestions please don’t suggest SUV or anything other than a hatchback

looking at the corsa the insurance is a lot cheaper than other small hatchbacks , need to look at road tax but so far corsa sounds good I only wish I could afford the new shape 2020 onwards

I had a Corsa years ago and it was truly horrid. Maybe they've got better but there are so many other similar sized cars out there. Fiesta, Clio, one of those little Hyundais

And price sounds terrible. You can get a Focus of a similar age for waaay less than 13k

HundredMilesAnHour · 27/07/2023 19:37

13k for a 5 year old Corsa?! You're having a giraffe.

HiDeDi · 27/07/2023 19:39

£13k to buy? Way to expensive. We have a 2019 Corsa and paid less than £10k with the same mileage

Getupat8amnow · 27/07/2023 19:44

Don’t touch an automatic Corsa with a barge pole. I had one from new and I had nothing but trouble with it. I had to get rid of it after three years as it was always going wrong. I get Hyundai i10s now, they are brilliant.

Yorkielover · 27/07/2023 19:53

Oh wow ok if corsa automatic no good i may avoid , yes it’s up at 12.995 won’t move on price either should I walk away?
13k is my maximum amount I can spent I’d love to find something around 11k then will have plenty to tax and insure etc

Honestly...in my experience, you're better off buying something older from BMW/Mercedes/Lexus/etc that'll fit into £6-7k, putting another £4k aside for servicing etc, and then doing something more useful/fun/whatever with the remaining money. Those cars have far higher build quality, better features and...well, they're just plain better.

Mmmmdanone · 27/07/2023 20:13

I have an automatic corsa and I love it. It's a 2014 one and cost £6k 2 years ago from a dealer when it was 7 years old so £13k sounds a bit steep.

Hocuspocus99 · 27/07/2023 20:31

Have you thought about a Toyota Aygo or Yaris , if your looking for a smaller car .

My DD bought a brand new with 3 years servicing Hyundai i10 for £15.5k in January.

Ohmylovejune · 27/07/2023 20:47

Auto

Hocuspocus99 · 27/07/2023 20:55

Sadly the corsa was unreliable as an automatic . Daughter had one traded in it for an Aygo , as you say too small if you have children . Although a Yaris is a bit bigger , the boot size may not large enough .

trulyunruly01 · 27/07/2023 20:57

I can't see that any Corsa is smaller than a Toyota Yaris 4 door
We have 3 Corsas in the family and one Yaris (2015, hybrid, no tax, tenner a month petrol) so I am frequently in both cars.
The Yaris is automatic and has been brill.
The Corsas are great first cars for the new drivers, and also the elderly driver.

Yorkielover · 27/07/2023 21:02

Will definitely take a look at the Yaris then

That's waaaaaay too much money for a car like that. Love Corsas though

Angrymum22 · 27/07/2023 21:11

I have a VW Polo automatic. It’s a lovely little car and so far v reliable. Historically had loads of VWs and never had a bad one.
DS18 is the main driver and insurance is a lot cheaper than a manual. Second hand cars are very expensive currently and probably will hold their value.
If BW are a bit pricy look for a Seat Ibiza, Seat and Skoda are part of the VW group so pretty much the same car as Polo.

Yorkielover · 28/07/2023 09:23

Will look into polo

No ,no no, certainly not anymore, the ongoing costs of any premium car far outstrips the benefits of potential build quality .

Op you could get a brand new Kia with 7 year warranty for under 14k

That's what I used to think. DP now has a 2005 BMW 120i auto, having been through the Ford/Peugeot/VW commodity cars for years, and it's absolutely the most reliable and low-maintenance car we've ever had (after the initial work...it was a project car bought for peanuts). It also just feels more...solid? Difficult to explain, but essentially it inspires more confidence while driving than any of the far-newer cars we've ever had.

For what it's worth, we tend to go for older-but-reliable cars on the grounds that every car we've had to scrap has been because of catastrophic sensor problems requiring engine teardowns to fix, and nothing to do with the actual mechanical running of the vehicle.

But then...take everything I've said with a pinch of salt - mine is a 2001 MG ZS 180 that was also bought for next to nothing and we've been (slowly) restoring it. It's my favourite, because of the dual excitement of "fun and fast" and "this might be the journey that I don't quite finish" :D

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/07/2023 10:12

I have one. I mostly like it but it has had problems with the distributor head failing so it suddenly loses power and since both times this has happened dh was driving he doesn’t trust it.
Apparently it’s a common fault with Corsas.

Ideally I wouldn’t get one again but when I was buying there seemed to be very little availability for used automatics of the size I wanted.

Polis · 28/07/2023 10:17

I can’t remember if it was a 2018 model or not, but the one I had as a courtesy car was awful. Absolutely gutless. It would change up if I tried to overtake anything, making the car slow down.

StrawberryWater · 28/07/2023 10:17

I had a corsa auto for my first car. I thought it was great to drive and a good first car. I had it for a few years before it started going wrong but it did cost me more to repair it than to drive it in the end (and it was only on 78k miles when I sold it). Everything that could brake on it broke.

EssentialGarage · 28/07/2023 11:01

@ntmdino I do understand what you are saying, and amongst the thorns are roses but average workshop bills of the prestige makes are significantly higher than smaller and mid range makes.

beguilingeyes · 28/07/2023 11:02

Nissan Micra! I have a 2009 automatic Micra and it's fantatic. Turns on a sixpence and aside from a few wiper blades and a battery there's never been a thing wrong with it.

Jellylover · 28/07/2023 11:08

If you are looking at a Yaris, cast your eye over the Yaris Cross.
