AIBU To go out and get myself a cake to celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary on my own?

… problem is I am on a diet and got divorced 15 years ago. Shall I?

If it is significant to you then do it. Maybe limit the size of slice you eat to keep you on track?

ChrisPPancake · 25/07/2023 19:42

If you want to?

Iwishmymumwouldbemymum · 25/07/2023 19:43

Just buy yourself some cake if you want it.

JadeClade · 25/07/2023 19:43

Are you celebrating 15 years of happy singledom? Sounds like a good reason for cake to me

ShadowPuppets · 25/07/2023 19:46

I think you just want to break diet op 😂 I’ve been there.

If you genuinely don’t want to break diet do something lovely that doesn’t involve calories. Posh bubble bath. Hire a movie. Book a day off for Friday and get your nails done, or go to the cinema.

But if you want to break diet, go for it. Life is short!

God, that’s a good point! Best time of my life, I would say! But it is only my wedding anniversary today, my divorce anniversary is still a few months away.

Still want the cake though…

Think how much weight you’ll have lost by the divorce anniversary…

You are right! I want to break the diet but if I am going to break it it must be for something worthy!

Like a dozen of Krispy Kreme’s or a lovely chocolate fudge cake with ice cream on the side.

My tortured diet brain is calculating that after losing 10 pounds over the last three months I do have space for it!

Just have the cake and stop trying to justify it with daft unnecessary reasons.

In all honestly I am just here talking about this in the hope that the stores would be closed by the time I decide to break the diet. Please bear with me 🙏🏼🙂

Well, it's a bit silly to saying wedding anniversary when you're divorced.

Bit weird actually

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2023 20:12

Ha! My dp and I married two days apart - to different people I should add - and both “celebrated” our silver weddings earlier this year. We’ve both been divorced for more than 10 years. We decided to go out for a drink, celebrate our “joint golden” anniversary and had a lovely evening in the pub celebrating being together. @IWantOutDoI do what you like. If other people think it’s “weird”, so what? You’re a gloriously free single woman, you can do what you like!

blacknredsweeties · 25/07/2023 20:16

I thought the divorce bit would cancel out the anniversary? Unless you didn't want the divorce?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 25/07/2023 20:17

Well i mean it's only weird because its not logical and screams "I'm not over it". But yeh, you do you :)

Oh… I’m so over it! No regrets whatsoever but it is still a bit poignant that if I hadn’t had the courage to walk away of a bad relationship I would be married for 25 years today.

So weird my arse! 😉

(which may also be the reason why I am on a diet! 😁)

Exactly! That’s the spirit! Celebrate whatever comes your way, no need to dramatise the past so much.

My marriage had great things that I am not willing to erase or pretend didn’t happen just because it didn’t work at the end. I appreciate it brought me some years of happiness, a wonderful child and put me on route to my lovely present. 🙂

I’m only on a diet as the bloody perimenopause is winning this battle… but otherwise happy with myself and my decisions.

I will be eating cake later. It would have been exh's birthday today but thankfully the twat is dead!
Bring on the cake. . Certain occasions call for cake.
You eat cake op..

Haha I guess the I'd be having a divorce anniversary!

Either way, enjoy your 🍰!

Good grief, you are right, I will join you on mind and spirit as long as I get to the shop on time.

I will never have another 25th wedding anniversary again. I am determined not marry ever again 🙂

Well if you're celebrating being rid yes enjoy your cake.

Winter2020 · 25/07/2023 21:11

Maybe get those slices of cake from the supermarket fridge - usually a two slice pack. A nice indulgence without being a whole cake which you might regret.

If you get a Victoria sponge celebration cake you can freeze slices which defrost quite nicely when needed.

Oh well, I thought that was a good plan so headed to Sainsbury with that in mind. Turns out that I have found 3 little Patisserie Valerie cakes on offer and not being able to make a decision I brought the three home. (It’s awful, I am not even ashamed!)

So the diet will be truly broken in a few minutes, so thank you very much to those who made me think there are things worth celebrating regardless.🙂

… and for those of you who think this is wrong, I will be thinking of you when I eat my cake(s) 😁

I’m not sure what you say to a person that’s about to eat cake, the equivalent of “cheers!” with a drink? Bottoms up? Either way, enjoy.

CarrieOnBoris · 25/07/2023 23:00

Just do it.
