To think I can make my big belly fatter by next Saturday?

Going to a wedding. I'm a size 8 but I've got a big toddler's belly. And my dress is pleated empire line. Not flattering!!

Reckon I could flatten things down by just doing intermittent fasting and some planks?

Suppose can try and if it doesn't work get an emergency dress on Friday.

I think with such a limited period I would aim for losing water retention and alcohol bloat (if any) - I'm not a big drinker but find that cutting it out completely, plus eating clean and low carb (definitely no bread or pasta!) can get rid of a load of water weight and bloating to the face and stomach very quickly. I once lost a stone (seriously) in ten days by going strictly very low carb and low calorie (max 6-800 calories per day). Obviously it's not a long term fix but could help here? Yes, and Spanx!

Flymetothetoon · 22/07/2023 18:16

No advice but I fucking love the typo on the thread title 😅

ChimChimeny · 22/07/2023 18:27

My friend has started taking Apple cider vinegar capsules and noticed an almost instant reduction in bloating, might be worth a try

FantaIsFine · 22/07/2023 18:41

I have cut out carbs totally the last few days with a couple of days of fasting as well and I've actually lost a few pounds - pre holiday and not necessarily medically recommended (or sustainable), but it has been effective.

Also lots of water and psyllium husk capsules help, they are just fibre and bulk up in your tum.

I am skinny but fat-skinny is a term I heard on here the other day and is me, I have plenty of visceral fat on my tummy which is what the fasting is supposed to hit.

madeinmanc · 22/07/2023 18:56

I always find my belly goes flatter within a matter of days if I cut out all things like bread, pasta, cereal, pastry products, rice etc.

madeinmanc · 22/07/2023 18:58

When I saw the title I thought to myself "Oh God, whatever next?", thinking it was something like the big bum trend 😅

Chesneyhawkes1 · 22/07/2023 18:59

@LMNT snap!! 😂

BertieBotts · 22/07/2023 20:12

TBF you could just lean into it. Wear a belly dancer's dress.

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 22/07/2023 21:06

Absolutely do check if you have diastasis recti because if you have planks are exactly what you need to avoid until it's healed!!

But really I'd just buy a new dress or some spanx and enjoy yourself. Am also size 8 with an annoying belly but from loose skin in my case (you can see my abs at the top as I work out regularly but the bottom has not fared well after three huge babies).

I'm working on adjusting my way of dressing and accepting tight clothes round the lower belly just aren't flattering anymore.

Am sure you actually look lovely in the dress but life is too short to feel self conscious!!

Why would intermittent fasting help the OP gain a flatter stomach? Unless the aim is to eat less which you could.just do so anyway eating at normal times...

It's actually much easier to eat less when IFing for many of us. I find if I wake on a Saturday and eat with the kids I just want to nibble all day. I also concentrate and sleep better when I do it. I know we are all different though.

KimberleyClark · 22/07/2023 21:13

Conturve pants are good.

Belly fat is normally an indicator of excess glucose your liver stores glycogen and is full so the next storage is fat.
intermittent fasting 16:8 or more will definitely reduce belly fat as after 12 hours of not eating it gives your body time to process the glucose, finish digestion and then manage your insulin.
you then burn fat, the longer you fast the more natural processes you engage such as Autophagy.

for the biggest belly fat reducing benefits a 36hr fast is optimal.
10pm Thursday to 10am Saturday for example.

ive been doing intermittent fasting for 3 weeks and have lost 5kg and skimmed down all over. Still need to lose another 20kg but this seems easy now rather than a pipe dream.

If you start drinking loads of water though how do you avoid perpetually having to go to the bathroom? Same situation at present

Peony654 · 22/07/2023 22:19

Avoid carbs, lots of water, and shapewear

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 23/07/2023 00:02

I cut all gluten out 2 weeks ago and that combined with healthy eating and exercise. I've lost 13lbs in 2 weeks and 2 inches of my hips and 5 inches off my waist

So starving yourself for 36 hours straight?

WantToBeHappyAndHealthy · 23/07/2023 00:48

Honestly, I would just buy a new lovely dress that you feel good in now, and if you still want to, research a healthy plan to lose weight after your event to feel comfortable in your old dress.

The stress test you will endure this week to lose the weight will not be worth it.

The stress THAT you will endure 🤦‍♀️

The reason you're losing weight is because you're consuming fewer calories. Your body doesn't give a fuck if you fast or not, the end result will still be the same if you consumed the same calories with a fast in-between or not. Intermittent fasting is a fad diet, which will help some people eat less. The likelihood of not wanting to binge eat after 36 hours of fasting is low.

Also the apple cider vinegar bollocks I read earlier, another piece of shit advice, what you're doing is spiking your blood sugar and insulin, not conducive to weight loss, you will just create cravings for food.

Magically drinking some vinegar is not going to help you lose weight, eating fewer calories will though.

LMNT · 23/07/2023 07:16

@Beneficialchampion2 are you qualified to give such misinformation?

The amount of people on Mumsnet who lack basic education in metabolic and human physiology but feel suitably qualified to give woeful advice that is wholly incorrect.

Really your going to starve with 20kg excess weight on your body? I think not.
it’s giving your body a break from constant eating.
3 meals plus snacks is a modern way of eating which has no place in our natural biology.

I’m offering my opinion on intermittent fasting backed up with a source who is a doctor and an expert in the science.

I did a 24 hour fast last week and didn’t binge.
I actually crave less sugar, I fee fuller quicker.
and yes I could calorie count and probably lose the weight too, but for me calorie counting doesn’t work, it becomes tedious.
i focus on eating less by adjusting when I eat not what I eat.

its only been 3 weeks but im sleeping better, my energy levels are feeling more stable. I don’t get the 2pm slump I was getting before. im seeing results and it’s feeling sustainable.
I actually used to eat like this in my early 20’s I just didn’t realise i was doing it. And I was in the best shape and felt good
