Always on annual leave

I have a relatively new hire (but not direct report) who has been in the job since January. She took annual leave in February, April, May and June. Always about a week and always a 'holiday', so not family stuff etc. It made her training slow and difficult as there was only one full month she worked in her first five months of employment. There's been a bit of 'sorry, just got back from annual leave' as an excuse for one thing or another. It also made me wonder whether she's going to do this every year now and will effectively work part time a few months in a row.

I wouldn't mind as much if she was fully competent in her role, but she isn't. I find her a slow worker and I need to remind her about a lot of things, which I feel I shouldn't have to do if she just kept a list or something to remind herself what needs done when and how.

AIBU to be annoyed?

Yabta.

People have a legal right to annual leave.
No one, not even you, inherently know things. You learn. Learning takes time. If she's new, she will be learning irrespective of whether she's been on annual leave.

If anything, the leave may be helping her through a transition into a new job.
Its tiring and stressful to start somethings new.

Whereas if you've been in a job a while, you know how things work ect so you can use less energy and things feel easier.

I think you just need to accept that people are people. They are not at a job and owned by it. It's important people live outside their jobs.

You should focus on your own life and enjoying it rather than critising someone else's.

Imagine having the audacity to take annual leave when you had booked it.... Not even for family reasons... Just for "holiday"......
🤣😂

Honestly, the details of why (prebooked? Medical treatment?) her leave is structured in this way are not your business, it was approved. But by all means complain to the appropriate people and they can decide if YABU or not, but it's not her fault....

Just focus on documenting valid performance issues if they are there...
