Just that really which one would you go for,
I have health issue with knee so going for an automatic.
Really wanted a focus more car for your money sort of thing however I’ve always lusted after the turquoise fiesta for years and this colour is exclusive to the fiesta is it crazy to get a smaller car just because I love the colour so much?
will be family of 4 no baby seats just 1 child seat which isn’t bulky ( the graco 4-12yr old)
The cars I’m looking at are around the same price I prob could get the focus a little cheaper tbh

I have a 1.5 ecoboost automatic. Very nice zippy engine. Really goes when fully loaded as well. If you get a titanium you get lots of great features.

I just looked at puma and unfortunately it’d be too big for me. I did consider Astra but someone told me they like to drink a lot so didn’t look into them too much, if everyone thinks focus is best please advice which to go for eco boost or PowerShift , I will mostly be driving as my partner only recently passed and Dno if I’ll trust him with a 10/12k car lol

Depends on the engine. If you compare figures the astra is generally better. The small turbo engines on the astras are certainly much more reliable than the ecoboost which is a horrible thing for going wrong.

Unless you are really committed to getting a ford, I would certainly look at things like the C4/Astra/308 etc. If you can get to a showroom and test drive a few, check them for boot space that is the thing to do.

But honestly, for a family of 4 I would completely disregard the Fiesta and equivalent superminis because the boot space and rear space really is tiny.

I think it's only certain types of the EcoBoost engine that are the problem.
I have that engine in a BMax - EcoBoost 1.0, 125hp though, which might make a difference, and there have been no recalls or anything on that - in fact it's been a great engine in this model, very popular.
However - the wet belt in the Ecoboost engines needs replacing at 10 years, and because they only started to be made in about 2012 or something like that, it's only now coming up to the time when they all need doing, and a lot of garages don't have the specific tool needed for it, so it's hard to shop around, and it's an expensive repair, like getting on for £1000. So worth checking for the year that you buy, how soon is it likely to need that doing, and are there places around that will do it for you.

Sadly. They haven’t fixed the issue, the new ones are marginally better, but they have not rectified the fact they are made of chocolate and melt for fun.

I have a turbo diesel Focus and while I love it, it's never out of the garage. I think I've spent more money in repairs than I paid for it.

Most of the Diesel engines used in the Focus are absolute turds - if it was a petrol it’d likely be much better (unless an Ecoboom of course!)

Hurry up if you want a Fiesta, the last ones came off the production line at the end of June.

Definitely not a Focus, everyone I know who has had one has ended up with problems with them.

This is news to me. I have had a focus eco boost for 5 years and it's a great car

The wet belt seems to be problematic. It really puts me off updating my Ford

DD had a problem with her ford focus with this. It wasn't very old

Save some more you need to go with new shape focus 2018 late reg onwards something changed in the engine to fix past stuff.

Is the belt issue better in these?

4weeknoalcohol · 23/07/2023 20:02

I think so and my mechanic said this and as long as you have the car regularly serviced too. My focus did Calais to South of Toulouse in one day in very hot weather no issues at all I was impressed as it’s only the 1 litre petrol eco boost. You do need to run the eco boost on motorways though I think the engine likes a good clear out.

woodhill · 23/07/2023 20:09

Thanks that's so helpful

I wonder if the Fiestas have improved as well

LocoCocoa · 23/07/2023 20:31

I have a fiesta 1.0 ecoboost. I spent 8k on it and absolutely hate it! It’s awful at getting up to speed, can’t cope with hills at all, I’m constantly shouting at it willing it to move!

It’s too small inside, my head almost touches the roof and I’m constantly smacking it, I’m only 5’6. The seating set up isn’t natural, to be close enough to the pedals I have to move the seat forward enough that I then can’t get out without moving the seat back. Not an issue I’ve had in any of my previous cars.

Boopeedoop · 23/07/2023 20:39

I've got an automatic cmax. It's a focus chassis but taller. Great car. 11 years old, 106,000 on the clock. I got it because I also have knee problems. I love it.

DelilahBucket · 23/07/2023 20:43

We've had a focus for over three years now (two cars just because we upgraded to a brand new one) and we love it. The space, the comfort, it feels safe. We've had a battery problem recently (ours is a mild hybrid) and I had a new fiesta as a courtesy car. I liked it, it was very similar to the focus, but the driving position wasn't as comfortable for me. I'd have one as a second car just for short journeys but wouldn't want to do any distance in it.
