should be able to drink from my own tap?

I wont be here much longer but I'm trying hard not to wind myself up here. I have to run the tap for a bit first or the water will smell and taste bad. After that, the water is fine going into a clean cup, but leaves a taste in my mouth. It then goes bad in the cup after not long. Brushing my teeth also leaves a taste. It needs to be washed out after each use. Someone who lives in the area say they have the same thing but they got Scottish water to test their water and said it was fine. I got Scottish water to test mine and they said the same. In my case their test involved tasting it out of the tap, saying it was fine and then they left? I I've been buying a lot of water bottles to compensate, it costs me about £25-50 a week as I buy roughly 1-2 packs of 12 a day.

try a water filter?

Mum2jenny · 19/07/2023 20:35

We use bottled water ( or water from the tap put into empty water bottles) when we are out on our boat. But we only use this water for drinking or boiling for making hot drinks. All other water based activities are done from the tap on the boat ie showers, washing veg, cooking veg, washing dishes etc.
why are you so bothered when the water has been tested and proven to be ok? I do get using bottled water for cold drinks, but why for other things???

Housenoob · 19/07/2023 20:36

Are you in a very hard water area?

Hufflepods · 19/07/2023 20:37

Considering you think a glass of water tastes fine but then ‘goes bad’/ develops a taste I think it’s more likely to be in your head.

tealandteal · 19/07/2023 20:38

24 bottles of water a day?!

Mumof2teens79 · 19/07/2023 20:52

If its fine after you run the tap for a while it's most likely to be your plumbing that is the problem. It could be the pipework to your tap, or the pipework to your dishwasher or washing machine. There should be a one way valve on the connection point to stop this but often there isn't.

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2023 20:56

How are you using so many bottles of water? Aren't you buying 2L bottles?

QuestionableMouse · 19/07/2023 20:57

Buy a water filter jug?

Dartmoorcheffy · 19/07/2023 20:59

Just buy the 2 ltr bottles from lidl. They are 50p

Tinkerbyebye · 19/07/2023 21:00

Water doesn’t go bad after a short time, and I would suggest you are suffering from some form of anxiety and should perhaps seek help

when you say you buy 1-2 packs of water a day is that smaller bottles and do you drink it all? Sounds a lot to me

She's in Scotland, the water is soft.

gogomoto · 19/07/2023 21:03

How much water? Just buy a filter jug.

Try a water filter like a Brita jug or water bottle with a filter inside. We have plumbed water from our fridge and it goes through a filter and it does taste different to the tap water. Buying bottled water is such a waste especially with single use plastic.

ZairWazAnOldLady · 19/07/2023 21:04

Are you drinking from the tank rather than the mains?

Hufflepods · 19/07/2023 21:04

Oh wait, I feel like we shouldn’t feed this one

Sunnydayz · 19/07/2023 21:07

You can buy private water test kits.

A little expensive from here but I think they would be more accurate then the do it yourself kits you get from Amazon.

empatheticpretzel · 19/07/2023 21:08

We have a few more weeks to go. But a filter would work out cheaper than buying all this bottled water. I didn't realise you could get filters for different things. I also thought they were hundreds of pounds for some reason. I had been buying the 500ml as its individual.

If you drink 24bottles of water a day you'd be seriously ill very quickly.

Right but it's 500ml bottles and I said between 12-24 as we each have a few a day

Sorry but that's not true, Glasgow has soft water that is drinkable from the tap.

I think the best way to describe the water is it tastes like a swimming pool

OP posts:
Paoq4 · 19/07/2023 21:17

Chlorine like taste isn't that uncommon, whack a jug full of the water in the fridge for a couple of hours.
You can drink it safely, it's been checked and they test regularly

Rogue1001MNer · 19/07/2023 21:19

Are there bisons?

And is it the government?

Mum2jenny · 19/07/2023 21:20

I think the OP is just wanting approval of their random habits. I think they need to chill as the tap water in Glasgow is just fine.
