AIBU to think that Sims 4 is like HOMEWORK

So I cut my Sims teeth on Sims 1, 20 years+ ago, peak Sims play Sims 2 at like 18 or so. Dabbled a smidge in Sim 3 never really that fussed then real life, kids etc came along and I totally retired from the sport.

Now my youngest is 8 and we have a PS4 which has Sims 4 for free Grin

So, the odd evening I've dipped in and had a go. Fuck me. Its as challenging as real life. Its not escapism.

They have aspirations and wants along with their needs. They get sad if you don't fulfil their life goal of earning a million quid in a day, they get pissed off if you schedule too many actions in a row. Trying to get them on a sleep schedule is harder than it was for both my infants, and they just seem to piss themselves every day!

I've started creating sims with little to no real goals or interests, just so that the game play is less stressful for me, as I just want to switch off when I play, not have to babysit another family of kids I created.

Fuck me.

Take me back to listening to Pure Shores and smashing it at Sims 2 til the small hours on a pc in my folks house.

Ah I remember the Motherlode cheat so well, so you could build a massive house 😆 was this Sims 1 or 2? I used to build the house then get bored furnishing it and had empty rooms.

All of my houses had the fuzzy logic dishwasher of course.

My sister and I did occasionally try and be evil and get the Social to take away the children 😂

I was in computer exchange today and they had the OG sims for £1.50 for PlayStation Grin

This thread is bringing back memories!
I used to love playing Sims 2. I used the motherlode cheat too but also remember my Sims having a money tree!

Sadly I do not have a laptop I’m able to play it on but have been thinking about getting a gaming laptop in the near future, as there are other games I’d like to play.

What do you all play on -gaming laptop or Xbox or what?

Tarkan · 20/07/2023 19:56

I play 2 on an old gaming laptop. It's really on its last legs, one hard drive out of the 3 is buggered now and the fan isn't too happy when I play for too long now. I used to also work on the laptop but I now have a Chromebook for that so the laptop is all just Sims.

I never had any luck with trying to copy save files in the past for some reason. No matter what I did they just wouldn't work and I would have to start from scratch.

DH actually got me 2 for free on Steam a while back. They did it free for a while but I still had it installed so didn't see the point in getting it then. Then I broke that laptop I played it on and my new one didn't have a CD reader to install it so DH emailed Steam and explained to them and they sent me a link to download it for free. 🥰

I’d consider selling my pinkie in order to have a Sims game that let you have the rest of your family as NPCs…

Sims 3’was my favourite, like others I loved the open world feel and being able to just wander around. But then Sims 2 Seasons was a good expansion. And which one has the proper apartment blocks where you could easily wander in and out of other apartments and I think you could have NPC roommates too?

For those of you into building and decorating, have you played House Flipper? I think I’ve lost about a year of my life to that game - and especially now they’ve released a new expansion pack that lets you extend the properties. It’s amazing. The user workshop is crammed with stuff people have made so you can fill your flipped house with real life junk, diner on the table, piles of clothes on the teenagers floor… Who needs to look after their own house and family, eh?!

Sims 2.

Sims 3 family members will look after themselves if you set them to high free will and just leave them to it. So they are a little like NPC characters but you can intervene if you want. They will eat, shower, toilet, sleep, keep up their fun and social needs and go to work if they have a job.

Well, I got to 3 babies in my hundred baby challenge and my adult sim died of starvation!

swanling · 25/07/2023 13:25

Well that's not the best start.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 25/07/2023 14:25

😂Oh dear but also lol! The 'challenge' part of the name is definitely appropriate.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/07/2023 16:07

Tried again, fresh Matriarch and she's got 3 toddlers and just about hanging in. I need one of the kids to adult so they can help.

Hire a nanny! (or is that cheating?)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/07/2023 16:38

Sadly that's cheating. And the matriarch cannot work outside the home so no real funds for nannies.

How many 100s of hours does the 100 baby challenge take people?!

I'm managing about 2 hours a day, in two chunks, been going about 5 days, 3 kids so far. But I'm holding back making more til I have a grown child to help. So maybe each 2 hours I could have a birth?

50 hours? I imagine it will take me the best part of a year as I won't play every day.

I don't think I would have the perseverance to see that through. I used to get fed up trying to fulfil the "have 10 children" want in S2!

I assume you have to stop the mother sim ageing somehow to fit in this many babies? Don't remember how ageing works in S4.

Do you reckon you'll see it through for a year?
