Primary school teachers - what do you think of this as a present?

So we've put some money into the class collection like usual but my DC loves their current teacher and wanted to get something just from them. I offered to buy a card and a box of chocolates but DC desperately wanted to get "her favourite crisps" with his pocket money and drew a picture with a letter and put the lot in a gift bag. Now I think this is really sweet BUT I'm aware that I'm pretty biased being as he's my kid. Would you think this is nice from a year 3 child or is it a bit crap and makes me look tight? Please be honest. Thank you.

I'm a teacher and that would make my day, the fact your ds knows his teacher so well is very sweet.

Ha! I was wondering same! My DC (4) wants to buy favourite crisps for her teacher too!!

Another teacher here - yep, I'd love that too. It's the thought behind it that is so touching. What a lovely kid.

Another teacher here and another ‘yes to the crisps.’ ❤️

I'm a teacher and I think it sounds lovely. It shows your child really knows her.

A couple of years ago, I had a child in my class who gave me a small, somewhat tired and worn Teddy bear at the end of the year. Her mum couldn't afford to buy a gift and the girl clearly wanted to give me something so she chose one of her small Teddy bears.

Was one of the loveliest gifts I've ever been given. I did think about returning it to her because I felt guilty but she'd given it to me but accepted it because i knew she really wanted me to have it.

I've had children buy me the sweets they see me get every lunchtime from the shop over the road, a girl who bought me a bottle of the hair oil she used because I'd often commented on how lovely it smelt.

I'd take these gifts over something more generic, expensive or tasteful any day!

I had a child who remembered my favourite chocolate bar and bought me one out of her own money, and it was one of my favourite gifts - it's the fact that they've noticed and remembered something about me personally that makes it more meaningful than a more generic present, even if more expensive.

Also reminded of a year 5 boy who asked me every day after lunch if I'd bought more polos that day. Of course I had.

One Monday, he came in and gave me 3 packets of polos that he'd bought with his pocket money over the weekend. He told me he'd actually bought a 4 pack but had eaten one himself 🤣

Heart melted I have to say.

Slightly different angle, but the best teacher gift I was ever given was a packet of hobnobs, pushed across the desk by a group of bashful Year 11s who were arguing over who should actually give me them.

“uh, miss, we knew you’d be cross that we messed the supply teacher around yesterday so we got you these on the way to school. Um. Sorry.”

It wasn’t the biscuits that mattered. It was the thought, like your crisps.

I still bollocked them for being shit to the supply though.

I'm a teacher and was once given 6 bananas because the Y4 student knew I loved them. They were all individually wrapped (quite an achievement!) I was so touched as the student had really thought about me.

ChocolateRaisin09 · 17/07/2023 21:28

It's really cute. I'd go for both!

COS2102 · 17/07/2023 21:30

If any of my students knew I loved something and bought it for me, it would be better than any 'typical' present out there. For that reason, my 11 year old has chosen presents the past two years. Last year it was every type of twix we could find and this year its a pack of 24 cans of Pepsi max cherry 😅 he said it's his teacher's favourite so that's what they're getting!

I am a teacher and I would love that 💞
