Primary school teachers - what do you think of this as a present?

So we've put some money into the class collection like usual but my DC loves their current teacher and wanted to get something just from them. I offered to buy a card and a box of chocolates but DC desperately wanted to get "her favourite crisps" with his pocket money and drew a picture with a letter and put the lot in a gift bag. Now I think this is really sweet BUT I'm aware that I'm pretty biased being as he's my kid. Would you think this is nice from a year 3 child or is it a bit crap and makes me look tight? Please be honest. Thank you.

I’m a teacher and I think that’s cute ☺️

SallyLovesCheese · 17/07/2023 20:18

That sounds like a pretty perfect present to me!!

QueenOfWeeds · 17/07/2023 20:18

Also a teacher and it would probably make me cry, but I’m hormonal at the moment 😂. It’s very sweet!

AlyssumandHelianthus · 17/07/2023 20:20

I used to be a primary school teacher & would have loved this

SallyLovesCheese · 17/07/2023 20:21

(I'm a teacher, BTW!)

My favourite present ever was a set of those sticky ninjas from the pound shop that a boy bought me... The fact he chose them himself for me made them special.

A bag of my favourite crisps would be brilliant. Never happened though!

SussexLass87 · 17/07/2023 20:21

Former teacher here...I'd have absolutely loved this. Very thoughtful of him!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 17/07/2023 20:23

It’s from your DC not you, why do you care if it makes you look tight to the teacher?

Birdkin · 17/07/2023 20:23

I’m a teacher and I’d love this! I’m always really touched when a pupil remembers something I like and has clearly been involved!

PensionPuzzle · 17/07/2023 20:24

The crisps alone would be fabulous but knowing the thought that had gone into choosing them would be even more special. Definitely go for it!

Hummusanddipdip · 17/07/2023 20:25

I think this is excellent!!! A few years ago I got a kinder bueno off my year 2 1:1 because we'd had a class discussion (in spring 1) about chocolate bars during a DT lesson and I'd said it was my favourite. The fact he'd stored that for a term and a half and told his mum that was what he wanted to get me meant so much!

I think favourite crisps is adorable!

Wahwahwahwahwah · 17/07/2023 20:28

Ah thanks everyone. Great. We'll stick with that then. He wanted to so much that I would have had to let him anyway but I wasn't sure whether I had to get something else to go with it to avoid looking mean.

Awww the number of teachers saying they'd love this is sooo lovely!!! FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersSmileSmileSmileHaloHaloHalo

Bottomofsmughill · 17/07/2023 20:41

I’m a teacher and this would really make me smile! The idea that he’s put real thought in to it is lovely x

Fairislefandango · 17/07/2023 20:43

I'm a teacher and would find that adorable Smile. I'm a secondary teacher though, so not a likely present! But one of my Y7 pupils presented me with a cute, very wonkily knitted little bag yesterday that she'd made for me. Grin

Yfory · 17/07/2023 20:44

Why would that make you look tight?
You've already donated to the class group present. This would be a present specifically from your dc that they have bought with their own pocket money and a letter with a picture. Utterly adorable. So much more special than something more expensive and fancy.

Yfory · 17/07/2023 20:45

Who doesnt love the surprise of a bag of their favourite crisps plus a sweet letter and picture drawn by a child? I bet she will treasure the memory.

herbygarden · 17/07/2023 20:46

That's so cute! I think this is lovelyN

justread · 17/07/2023 20:47

I think it's perfect.

FoodFann · 17/07/2023 20:49

The crisps are perfect. Your DC is showing phenomenal emotional intelligence to have thought about a perfect gift which their teacher will actually like.

You can always get her a card from you too - saying how much you appreciate her, particularly with DC’s reading/piano/confidence. A heartfelt thanks with a specific reason for the thanks means a lot

Bootoagoose123 · 17/07/2023 20:54

Yes, yes, yes this is gorgeous. Please let him do it! Also echo PP that if you have thought highly of a teacher it's lovely to write them a card and let them know - I still keep cards from parents who feel I made a difference to their children and look at them on bad days!

chocolateisavegetable · 17/07/2023 20:55

It’s honestly so perfect. He was listening to her, he cared enough to remember. Worth so much more than any expensive gift.

Sugargliderwombat · 17/07/2023 20:55

I LOVE gifts chosen by the child, so sweet and random. You could do a separate little card to say thank you and that your son was desperate to give the Crisps !

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/07/2023 20:56

I think teachers like thoughtful gifts from the children rather than the parents. When dd was younger, the teacher was chuffed to bits dd had written her a thank you note of her own volition at the end of the year on a scrap of paper.

Mariposista · 17/07/2023 21:03

Lovely. It shows he is thoughtful (the fact he knows and has remembered what her favourite crisps are).

SeanMean · 17/07/2023 21:05

Also a teacher and would love this!🥰
