Rain, rain and more rain

I'm grateful I'm not boiling to death like parts of Europe BUT the 14day forecast here in the North West is awful. I only want my washing to dry on the line.

I've got a horrible feeling its going to be a washout now until September. Fed up.

Another one miserable here. Spring was cold and wet, June we finally got some sun, all of July wet and windy. Central Scotland. Garden just a battered mess. Made soup today to warm us up. Its pretty shit

Silvered · 16/07/2023 16:38

It does rain a lot in the NW but it's unusual for it to rain every single day.

My absolute ideal would be sunshine and 18-20 degrees during the day, then steady rain from 10pm-4am to save having to water everything.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/07/2023 16:48

I think YABU as you're in the NW. It rains a LOT in the NW.

And she's not just in any part of the NW but Manchester...

Well, further up near Preston it's been a nice afternoon. Mostly sunny, breezy, pleasant temperature. We've been glad of the shade of the trees while out walking.

Ginmonkeyagain · 16/07/2023 16:55

London here - we're sitting out in a beer garden, enjoying the mild sunshine.

Sorry.

Excellent film choice @flurbubbly 😁

Thank you. Smile

I like being cosy but cosy without having to whack the heating on!

Fightyouforthatpie · 17/07/2023 17:31

To be honest 45C sounds very appealing right now.
No it doesn't.

flurbubbly · 17/07/2023 17:53

Went out for a lovely evening walk to enjoy the late sunshine last night and got caught in the most insane, out of nowhere torrential downpour that lasted exactly 30 minutes. Thank god for apple weather. "Rain stopping in 6 minutes." Okay I can stand under a bus shelter and play on my phone for six minutes to avoid getting wet on the 2-minute run to my front door. Grin

I was going to have a week home alone as DH was camping in Yorkshire for an event, then a spot of walking in the hills. He rolled up back home yesterday evening with a load of wet stuff and wet tent. So much for my peaceful week.

TheLostNights · 17/07/2023 18:14

Bit fed up of the rain and wind but temperatures are where I like them. Mid to low twenties. Average for the time of year. Let's hope it stays that way.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 17/07/2023 18:15

I live in the Lakes - today has been beautiful! The forecast said chucking it down all day, like it's been over the whole weekend, but it's sunny, breezy and pleasant at ~18°C. Shame I was stuck in work all day.

KohlaParasaurus · 17/07/2023 18:18

I don't want the 30° temperatures of last month back any time soon. I'd rather wear a raincoat and use the tumble dryer.

garlictwist · 17/07/2023 18:20

I know you'll all hate me but I would love it if it was 40 degrees here. The two days we had last summer were just great for me. (Yes, I know it's bad for the planet etc) but I love the heat. This rain can get to fuck.

Tessisme · 17/07/2023 18:20

Weather near Belfast has been lovely today. Sunny and not too hot. But the rest of the week is showing rain. It rained most of last week. And it was blowing a gale. I just want some reliable sunshine. Or absence of fecking rain would do.

PearTreeBoat · 17/07/2023 18:24

I live/work out in Oman where the temperatures will be hitting over 50°C late July and throughout August. Am currently in France where it is high 20's/low 30's which is perfect for getting out and about.

Am not looking forward to heading back home next week as it's going to be so unbearable and I'll be so jealous of anybody who is experiencing wind and rain.

Would love to live in a country where winter was dry and around low 20's and summers were high 20's/mid 30's with the odd thunderstorm.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/07/2023 18:26

I like this weather and after a few very hot summers I'm extremely grateful not to be sweating litres on the tube every day.

Floatlikeafeather · 17/07/2023 18:27

So much generalisation! I live in the North West but we have had glorious weather recently. Coastal Cumbria. My daughter, much further south but still in the North West, consistently gets much worse weather than we do. Son in the South West has also had far less summery weather than we have.

Elphame · 17/07/2023 20:15

Saw some sun today and the wind has definitely dropped but still too strong for me to risk venturing out ( it triggers my TN).

blackpear · 17/07/2023 20:45

I love this weather. I feel so sorry for people living and working in high temperatures.

WestwardHo1 · 17/07/2023 20:50

This is reminding me of the miserable run of summers we had 2007-9. The jet stream being weak and loopy means that certain weather patterns get stuck

However the BBC in particular are very guilty of summing up a days weather as being wet, when if you look in more detail they mean there's a 50% chance of rain at say 1pm, and the rest of the day looks dry.

Yes it's cool, showery and windy but it's better than what they are getting in southern Europe. The long range forecast for August is looking more favourable.

WestwardHo1 · 17/07/2023 20:52

KohlaParasaurus · 17/07/2023 18:18

I don't want the 30° temperatures of last month back any time soon. I'd rather wear a raincoat and use the tumble dryer.

Using the tumble drier unnecessarily might be contributing to the heat? Just a thought.

WildFlowerBees · 17/07/2023 20:56

It must be my fault, this time last year we were sleeping on our mattress downstairs because of how hot it was, days and days of unbearable heat..so I bought ac for this year. Haven't needed it yet. Sorry!

Deadringer · 17/07/2023 20:59

The worst thing for me is the weeds, they are out of control in my garden between all the rain showers and the bursts of sunshine.

Beaverbridge · 17/07/2023 21:08

Supposed to be nice tomo according to weatherman. Central Scotland.

NadjaCravensworth1 · 17/07/2023 21:34

I will take rain all summer long. Anything to avoid trying to survive a heatwave with a toddler
