Just that really.

I think regards sounds grumpy.

Best wishes slightly flimsy.

Yours sincerely is more for hard copy letters.

Saw yours truly the other day but that sounds odd and somehow ancient.

I’m in a senior professional role in quite a conventional field. Currently use kind regards but feel like an update.

What are people using just now?

I don't like kind regards I think it sounds really twee.

LlynTegid · 15/07/2023 16:06

Regards

25sheets · 15/07/2023 16:07

To me "kind regards" or "regards" is just soooo false. Have never used those.

Delphigirl · 15/07/2023 16:08

Have been using kind regards on every single work email since 1992. If it ain’t broke…

yogasaurus · 15/07/2023 16:09

Kind Regards

Regards when I’m mad at the person

LammasEve · 15/07/2023 16:09

Thanks or Many Thanks, unless I hate you or you've annoyed me then it's Kind Regards or Regards.

NeedToChangeName · 15/07/2023 16:09

Kind regards

It's neutral and polite

Oldnproud · 15/07/2023 16:11

"Many thanks" when I feel its appropriate, otherwise usually just "regards".
I most frequently receive formal emails ending either "best regards" or "kind regards", and very occasionall do use one of those, but they still feel just slightly too familiar to me - I'm stuck midway between old school and contemporary!

LittleBlueBrioTrain · 15/07/2023 16:12

Most occasions: Kind regards
Pissed off: regards
End of a working relationship final email asking for feedback: Best wishes

countvoncount · 15/07/2023 16:13

I'm seriously considering this

I occasionally use “Thanks a million” if I’m feeling reckless but generally Kind regards.

We have a lot of Christian clients at my workplace and I often get a “yours in Christ” which make me snigger a little bit.Blush

WelshNerd · 15/07/2023 16:17

I use kind regards to everyone other than my team. They will get thanks and cheers.

Someone I have never met but have to email a lot signs off "Rgds" and, although the content of his emails are generally pleasant, I assume he is a psychopath.

MavisEnderby74 · 15/07/2023 16:20

I remain your obedient servant,
M. End.

LunaMay · 15/07/2023 16:20

Bax765 · 15/07/2023 14:58

I use "Hi" most of the time, or "good morning/afternoon" for slightly more formal.

"Kind regards" for most emails.
"Many thanks" if I've asked them to do something.
"Thanks" if less formal
"Regards" if I hate them

Pretty much these, plus

"Thanks in advance" if i've asked for a form or something to be returned.

'Cheers,' on occasion to my manager as that's how he often signs off so i feel i can get away with it with him!

EBearhug · 15/07/2023 16:31

Very much depends on my mood if it's someone I don't know, I'll start with "Hi" or "Greetings!" or maybe "Dear name" if it need to be formal. But "Dearest esteemed colleagues," has also been known.

Ending - I have an irrational hate of "regards" in all its forms, so I don't use it. "Thanks" or "Yours sincerely", but just as likely to be, "see you in the meeting/next week/on Wednesday," "Yrs etc," "your humble servant (as if!)" "In eternal gratitude," or whatever else I'm I the mood for. Quite like the person upthread who used "fuck off", but have had too many trips to HR in the past.

I often don't read the sign off myself (which saves me muttering about, "why the fuck are you adding your full signature to a long, cluttered email thread, when we already all know exactly who you are and how to contact you?")

PlainJanePerfect · 15/07/2023 16:34

I use "Best"

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/07/2023 16:40

Thanks.

Sometimes Many thanks.

Or Best wishes

If a colleague I'm very friendly with then 'Cheers, G'

Nugg · 15/07/2023 16:41

Kind regards.

titchy · 15/07/2023 16:43

Depends who it's to!

People I'm super-friendly with - 'Ta muchly', 'cheers', 'I owe you a coffee'!

Otherwise - 'best', 'thanks', 'bw', 'many thanks', 'regards' depending on their seniority and my relationship with them.

LisaD1 · 15/07/2023 16:45

Many thanks on all my emails, it’s built into my signature so I don’t need to even think about it.

if I’m having multiple exchanges or with close colleagues then we tend not to use a sign off at all and just answer the question.

ReliantRobyn · 15/07/2023 16:46

"Go suck a bag of dicks,"

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/07/2023 16:48

I once received an email that just said

Granny,
Noted.
Best,
Fred

Proper scorched earth 😬

PleaseSendNoodles · 15/07/2023 16:48

I always use ‘thanks!’ Or ‘many thanks’. If I’ve already said thanks in the email, I go with ‘thanks again’ 😂

I live in the states and Americans often use ‘very respectfully’ or just ‘V/R’ which I find a bit OTT.

ZenNudist · 15/07/2023 16:49

OrigamiOwls · 15/07/2023 14:28

Kind regards - in every and all situations

This for clients or KRs for colleagues.

Someone would have to piss me off to extreme lengths to make me downgrade to Regards.

The only alternative is Best regards

HappiDaze · 15/07/2023 16:49

Kind regards

The only person on to ever use warm regards was my combi boiler installer and that made me smile

Hi is quite normal these days but I use Dear if I'm not familiar with that person and it's a serious email
