Just that really.

I think regards sounds grumpy.

Best wishes slightly flimsy.

Yours sincerely is more for hard copy letters.

Saw yours truly the other day but that sounds odd and somehow ancient.

I’m in a senior professional role in quite a conventional field. Currently use kind regards but feel like an update.

What are people using just now?

Do we do salutations? I always use Dear. Have irrational dislike of Hi in prof emails.

I never use ‘Dear’ and I don’t think I ever see it from colleagues either.

Most of us at our place use “Hi [Name]” in most work situations, or if it’s more formal just “Name,”.

For emails to the chair or CEO I might start with “Good morning/afternoon [Name]” in the first instance but then Hi after that.

blackteaplease · 15/07/2023 14:43

Kind regards for newish clients/at the start of a project. With the option to drop the kind if im annoyed.

Thanks/many thanks for colleagues and people I am more familiar with.

I really hate warm regards, makes me feel a bit queasy.

NeedleFeltedFox · 15/07/2023 14:43

a couple of colleagues use “best” and I get irrationally annoyed by its brevity

nonevernotever · 15/07/2023 14:43

Oops. I use regards as standard, because kind regards sounds too frilly to me. If I've sent that to any mumsnetter, it's not because you've annoyed me, honest😁

MaggieBsBoat · 15/07/2023 14:44

My favourite is when used by German colleagues and they are getting increasingly irritated

mit freundlichen Grüßen (with friendly greetings)
viele Grüße (many greetings)
Gruße (greetings)
mfg (with friendly greetings but I ain’t writing it!)
g (greetings aka fuck off)

i myself do
all the best

or if pissed off
regards

(professional director level)

Autocorrect once randomly changed my standard sign off of 'best wishes' to 'best sausages' on an important work email. 🙈

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

But was it a serious email?

blackteaplease · 15/07/2023 14:45

Salutations- I use dear for a cold email eg to another company I need to consult with but I've never met the person

Good morning/afternoon for clients when more familiar.

Hi for people in my company I don't really know and nothing with colleagues if there's an existing conversation going

So consensus so far is regards definitely has arsey overtones.

I loathe best too. No idea why. All the best I quite like, once I know a client and think they won’t hate it.

LittleBrownJug · 15/07/2023 14:47

Best = fuck off & never email me again

Many thanks = Just fucking do it & never email me again

Kind regards = I hate you. Never email me again.

Generally dear on external emails & hi on internal is what's standard in my workplace. Always kind regards unless just a quick internal email type thing tend to just use thanks as more informal.

purplecorkheart · 15/07/2023 14:49

Kind regards. I work with someone would uses Kindest regards somehow it comes across as very passive aggressive even if she is lovely.

user1496146479 · 15/07/2023 14:50

Spend way too much time doing emails! Confused
Hi there to start, and kind regards to end.

I agree and think this is because KIND isn’t kind enough, they are kinder than kind, they are KINDEST.

I know a real dickhead who uses kindest.

@MaggieBsBoat

Yes, it was a lengthy email where I'd copied lots of others in and the 'best sausages' sign off basically make a mockery of my attempts to be professional.

margegunderson · 15/07/2023 14:54

Loathe kind regards. NFC what it even means. Thank you is my usual sign off

Me too. Didn't realise it may be seen as snippy..

7Worfs · 15/07/2023 14:57

Thank you,
First name

or if nothing to thank for, just First name

CateringPanic · 15/07/2023 14:58

Normally kind regards. Sometimes best wishes or many thanks.

Occasionally when I’m feeling rogue I might go for:
many thanks, kind regards
warm regards
with very best wishes

If before a break I might go for something like:
have a good bank holiday!

I like to mix it up but I have only ever seen regards on its own used to indicate that someone has pissed you off

spaghettimaretti · 15/07/2023 14:34

Do we do salutations? I always use Dear. Have irrational dislike of Hi in prof emails.

I think it's hard for people to give general answers because company culture is also important. Starting an email with "Hi x" is not unusual at all in my company (large financial services). But might not be used much at other places.

Personally I use hi if I know the person, dear if I don't, or if I only slightly know them, or if I know they are more formal themselves.

Bax765 · 15/07/2023 14:58

I use "Hi" most of the time, or "good morning/afternoon" for slightly more formal.

"Kind regards" for most emails.
"Many thanks" if I've asked them to do something.
"Thanks" if less formal
"Regards" if I hate them

CloverHilla · 15/07/2023 15:00

Mine is included in my auto signature and says Kind Regards.
I don't even think about it.
