To ask how much your mortgage is?

idontlikemybutteflycushions · 15/07/2023 13:46

I think I need a reality check. These rates will add £500 on to our mortgage. I’ve had a number in my head that I never wanted to pay more than mortgage wise and now ours teeters on the verge of that. Affordability for the mortgage says we’ve got still a lot more wiggle room but those numbers feel crazy

so if you’re in your 20s/30s how much is your monthly mortgage and if you don’t mind your household income?

Mortgage £1220, joint income around £4000 as take home pay.

ThreeLittleDots · 15/07/2023 16:51

£400pcm mortgage, £3K joint take-home pay. £70K mortgage on a £340K house and we overpay £600pcm. Hope to be rid of the debt in 6 years.

SquashPenguin · 15/07/2023 16:54

Joint income just over £5k, mortgage £1250. Expecting at least £500 increase in 12 months time.

ThreeLittleDots · 15/07/2023 16:54

Oh and 1.99% fix ends July '24, we'll go onto tracker with no ERC until rates fall

Solitaryasanoyster · 15/07/2023 16:54

How is everyone’s mortgage so cheap?
£1300 here, £280k left over 25 years.

Yours seems incredibly cheap, only £200 more than mine, but with over an extra hundred grand borrowed

Tellmeifimwrong · 15/07/2023 16:59

How are everyone's incomes so high?! I'm a single parent on £1800/month paying £775/month and I thought that was good!

Some of the monthly income figures being quoted are incredible. I could never imagine taking home £4/5k per month. I’m feeling like a failure and away to cry into my glass of wine 🥹

Same girl… that’s our joint. Can’t imagine earning that alone. Kudos to all those that do!

Monthly income 2,200. Mortgage is currently £220 on standard variable rate
Live in 2 bed terrace in liverpool and am happy we didn't upgrade to a bigger house as my dh is now carer for my mil.

Xenia · 15/07/2023 17:02

I don't think I have seen anyone yet with our 1990 (quote above) 50% of net income on mortgage (rates were very very high then). I thought about half net income on rent or mortgage was about the norm but may be people got better off in the last few years.

pleasestoprainingplease · 15/07/2023 17:03

Wow these have surprised me! I really hope our landlord owns our house. We already pay 2k a month on £4,500pcm don't fancy that going up more. We will never own 😢

House is worth around £475k so that might be why?

FiddleLeaf · 15/07/2023 17:07

Mortgage is £1,700 p/m (joint income £8k)& we’re on 1.89% fixed until summer 2024. We could be looking at the amount doubling. We can afford it if both working but I will be on mat leave (if all goes to plan 🤞🏻) for a lot of next year. Plan to get another fix and then use the 6months interest only bandaid to keep that period cheap.

not Trying to be arsey as we considered it to, but how come you’ve decided to go with a tracker given that there’ll be more BR rises? X

Actually ignore me, the current year is 2023 not 2024…

34 & 35 £6K joint monthly income
First time buyers in 2020, Mortgage went from roughly around £1200 to £1500 earlier this year. Fixed again for anther 2yrs, £330K mortgage, location Essex.
I'm due to start MAT leave in October, trying to save as much as I can.

ConstanceL · 15/07/2023 17:13

We have a monthly income of just under £5k and our mortgage is £1400. We still have 3.5 years left on our 1.14% fix, I’m not sure what we will do if rates haven’t gone down by the time we need to remortgage though..

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 15/07/2023 17:14

~£950, 25 years left on ~£250k, 45% LTV. Fixed at 0.99 til mid 2027 thank fuck. It's about 20% of our monthly income so we should be ok, but it would drastically change our lifestyle if we had to remortgage or go on variable rate tomorrow.

SchoolShenanigans · 15/07/2023 17:14

£1200 mortgage, £106k annual combined mortgage.

But we're still on a low fixed rate. When we have to remortgage, it'll probably be more like £1600-1700 which seems crazy to me.

ReliantRobyn · 15/07/2023 17:14

£10 000 left on our initial loan of £750 000. Thankful for husbands hard work and locking into a low rate mortgage at the time of the financial crash.

TheSnailAndTheWaaaail · 15/07/2023 17:14

Income varies as both DH and I get monthly and quarterly commission but average monthly joint take home probably about 5k and mortgage is £902 up from £770 when we remortgaged. Childcare when I go back from maternity will be in the region of £700 a month. Managed to fix the mortgage last December for 5 years at 3.24% so that will get us through til the youngest is at school and childcare drops a bit.

Imissivillage · 15/07/2023 17:17

Joint income is 2900 mortgage is 585 on 5.79%

Fretfulmum · 15/07/2023 17:17

Mid 30s, £14,000/month income, £2.4k/month mortgage. Fixed term due to end 2027 and would increase to £4.9k/month at 5% on a £650k mortgage. Childcare £2300/month. It sounds all doable on paper but in reality it is getting tighter every month with inflation at these levels.

Sfex · 15/07/2023 17:19

Joint income £140k a year/£7500k a month. £220k mortgage, £1200 a month - luckily fixed last year for 5 years so thankfully don’t have to worry about it for a while.
We’re early/mid 30s in the NW. Also have FT nursery fees of £1200 per month which is the real killer!!

Ivyiris · 15/07/2023 17:20

Monthly income about £3500 average pcm . Mortgage at the moment is £500 . Don't remortgage until next year. May try and pay some extra end of the year to help a bit.
