To ask how much your mortgage is?

idontlikemybutteflycushions · 15/07/2023 13:46

I think I need a reality check. These rates will add £500 on to our mortgage. I’ve had a number in my head that I never wanted to pay more than mortgage wise and now ours teeters on the verge of that. Affordability for the mortgage says we’ve got still a lot more wiggle room but those numbers feel crazy

so if you’re in your 20s/30s how much is your monthly mortgage and if you don’t mind your household income?

I should have added that it's a basic 3 bed terraced house with a double garage in an apparently affluent area of South Wales. Houses here have been £130k starting for about 8 years now so we have an absolute steal.

My parents-in-law live in an affluent area of S Wales and a 3 bed will cost between 600k and around 1.4mil.

Mid 30s joint income of around £3200. Mortage is £480 central Scotland

So after mortgage you have £4,000 to pay bills and everything else?

I think you'll be ok.

Childcare is a killer rn and our food has substantially gone up but yeah that’s about right

Monthly income of approx £5700 a month. Our mortgage is going up from £1100 to £1850 (we were previously on a 1.97%!) but we've had to go on a tracker as fixed rate deals were just horrendous so I'm imagining it will go up again!

itsallnewnow · 15/07/2023 16:24

I posted about this recently, ours is going up loads but was told I was being ridiculous to worry. Even if it looks fine on paper it's scary when it's such a jump.

Ours has gone to £1300. Income after tax decisions etc is around 6000 (variable as one person self employed)

Paying full nursery atm which is nearly the same again and a loan on a car so it should ease in a few years

Secondrater · 15/07/2023 16:24

Joint income varies per month as one self-employed but average is £4600.
Mortgage £680. About 12 years left. We overpay about £400 each month to reduce term, so total on mortgage is £1080 pcm. 5-bed house in rural-suburbia for £200k a decade ago. North, obvs!

Invisibleeye · 15/07/2023 16:24

Just under £700 and household income around £40000-45000 (one of us self employed so variable) before deductions.

That household income is annually!

Mortgage £1075 pcm on a take home of £3,600 pcm. Thankfully fixed until 2028 thank the fuck, as I would not be able to manage otherwise (barely can now). still got another 20 years left to pay and will need to add a second small mortgage soon to pay off essential repairs. Holding out for as long as I can …

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 15/07/2023 16:28

Joint income of around £65k pre tax. Mortgage of 535 a month, fixed rate of 2.79. Got about 6 years of fixed left.

Could have fixed it lower at 2.2 for 5 years rather than the 2.79 for 10 but decided to go for the 10 year as we could afford the rate and didn't want to risk rates shooting up and not being able to afford it.

stevalnamechanger · 15/07/2023 16:29

Joint income has taken a recent drop, down to 7600 from close to 9000

Mortgage is 2350 fixed till Dec 2027 at 4.01

Working it out at 7% could add over £1000 a month!

Radiodread · 15/07/2023 16:30

Oh sorry just seen the point about this being for 20/30 somethings. That does not describe me by quite a long way :) I’ve been paying a mortgage down for best part of 20 years but hey, thanks, marital breakdown.

Scotsgirl001 · 15/07/2023 16:31

Some of the monthly income figures being quoted are incredible. I could never imagine taking home £4/5k per month. I’m feeling like a failure and away to cry into my glass of wine 🥹

3BSHKATS · 15/07/2023 16:31

Single parent and I owe about 174,000 with 18 years to go and current mortgage payments are 1050. They will increase to just over 1200. If everything stays the same in April.

Wildwildwildwest · 15/07/2023 16:21

Early-mid 30s we receive 12,000ish per month. Mortgage 800£ (it has doubled in the last 12 months).

Blimey! What sectors are you in?

ThereItIs1 · 15/07/2023 16:35

Both early 30's, joint monthly income of just over £7k mortgage was fixed at £650 for three bed detached, but on the verge of moving and new house mortgage is £1400 per month

threelittlescones · 15/07/2023 16:38

£165k balance. £798 a month with 24 years left. Have had it for 2 years and it's fixed for another 3 years.

Household income is around £39k at the moment.

SuchiRolls · 15/07/2023 16:39

I’m early 40’s but only had the mortgage for 6 years. We pay £505 we overpay a tiny bit at £550 and thinking upping to £600 given current climate. We have 2 years of a 5 year fixed deal left. Our income is about £4K a month. 19 years left on mortgage and at 55% LTV.

Bringthebags · 15/07/2023 16:39

Take home Income 8k com , new mortgage 2900 . But 95% … I’ve been following these friends for a while and feel worried my mortgage is too high for my income . First time buyers so hope in 5 years to have more free cash for living .

Tophy124 · 15/07/2023 16:41

We pay £1400 a month in rent, so most of these mortgages sound ridiculously low!! Makes me wonder if people realise how high rent is and it does make me lose empathy for home owners tbh if you have been paying £400 a month! That is as low as someone in a council house pays to rent!

Dibblydoodahdah · 15/07/2023 16:41

Joint net income of approx £10k per month. Mortgage is £2650 - was £2150 before we remortgaged in May. We’re in our 40’s.

Wildwildwildwest · 15/07/2023 16:43

@YukoandHiro im a teacher, he’s quant analyst. We don’t live in the UK anymore. Should obviously have said that!

We rented for 10 years, paying £1300 a month for a damp 2 bed terrace while saving to buy, so yes I know how expensive renting is. Our mortgage is now far lower than our rent was, because we moved 150 miles to be able to buy somewhere.

Tryingtofit · 15/07/2023 16:47

HomeSeck · 15/07/2023 15:28

Take home £6k and mortgage circa £1.6k.

That feels fine at the moment as we're past the nursery years, but we're expecting to feel the pinch in 2025 when we remortgage.

Were very simular to you but our deal ends in June, dreading it

if it's any consolation @Scotsgirl001 , for a very long time we barely had our heads above the water. We're in a very fortunate position now where I am able to be a SAHM and my husband has a monthly income of 4k plus a large yearly bonus, but it was in the not so distant past that we had more outgoings than there was coming in ❤
