Has anyone had plastic/cosmetic surgery?

Has anyone ever had plastic surgery?

ive hated something on my face to the point I’ve spent my entire childhood crying about it. I’m self conscious, it’s all I think about and I hate it. It’s not something that’s in my head and not really that bad, it’s plainly obvious and I hate it an unbelievably amount.

I could get it corrected in a very low risk surgery (I’ve wanted to ever since I realised it was possible to fix it!) and I’m an adult now so it’s my choice, but I’m just wondering if anyone has had plastic surgery and had any advice on it? My life will be millions better with it fixed but it’s a lot of money 8k+ so I want to do it properly. TIA!

also respectfully please nobody tell me not to change my body, or that it’s probably not that bad, or that they don’t agree with plastic surgery etc. I’m just looking for advice specifically about it. TIA

No experience, but I'd say contact your gp first. They will likely have helpful advice and be able to recommend someone. Good luck. Hope you get what you want.

It's your life, it's your body - don't worry about what others think.

If it's something that bothers you, then I would say do your research and go for it if it's what you want.

Plastic surgery can be a game changer for many people, especially if it is one specific issue rather than a generalised "make me pretty" request. Some people go on to want more and more, which is the darker side of successful surgery as it can be seen as a quick and easy solution to everything you are slightly unhappy about. Make sure you spend due diligence researching your surgeons. If necessary narrow this down to certain specialists in the area that you are interested in. All surgery carries a degree of risk, but so do many things. Good luck.

@SaleOfTwoTitties

Your GP will not be able recommend a plastic surgeon!!!!

Medusaismyhero · 14/07/2023 20:45

My DD had her ears pinned back at 8 which is considered a low risk cosmetic procedure. She's 25 now and they're starting to spring gradually forward again which is a known risk to the procedure. She had a fair bit if pain post surgery but healed well and is still glad she had it done but doubt she'll have them redone even if they come back out as much as they previously were.

Go to www.thetweakmentguide.com
The founder is a beauty journalist that has spent many years researching (non-surgical) procedures and the doctors that do them. I've found a surgeon through it who is EXTREMELY well-qualified. For the love of god, don't go to Turkey or have a 'cut-price' procedure! If it does go wrong, you want to be able to hold them accountable properly. But if you choose a very reputable surgeon, it shouldn't.

I've had plastic surgery except it was restorative after a very disfiguring facial disease. I had it on the NHS and I'm very glad I had that opportunity because it gave me my face back. The one thing I'd say is that the recovery takes longer that you'd think, especially if it's somewhat invasive. It can take 1-2 years to fully heal and settle. If it will really make you happier when you look in the mirror and you can afford it, do it!

If you can afford it, do it. I just paid to have a lesion removed from my eyelid, that the NHS would not treat, even though the lesion developed because of a medical issue. So glad I did it.

LMNT · 14/07/2023 20:50

I had a tummy tuck and back lift. I lost 8 stone and had a lot of lose skin. It was worth every cent.

CallMeDiaz · 14/07/2023 20:53

I had a tummy tuck and while the recovery was long and a bit miserable it was honest to god the best thing I ever did.

Life's too short to live with something that plays on your mind every single day.

whateveryousay · 14/07/2023 20:53

I have had plastic surgery on my face. Worth every penny. I was so self-conscious before, and tried to ‘live with it’ and not be so ‘shallow’, but in the end I thought ‘life’s too short’ and I am much happier now.

whateveryousay · 14/07/2023 20:55

Depending which area you are in, I could recommend the surgeon I saw, if it helps? He was so kind, while being realistic about what could be achieved.

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 14/07/2023 20:55

I would do any plastic surgery if could afford it, I wouldn’t get into dept for it. You don’t even need to feel as strongly about it as you do. You just need cash.

I had a tummy tuck as part of my cancer reconstruction, and I love it.
It does have downsides to be fair, but on the whole is brilliant.

Lira715 · 14/07/2023 20:57

if it bothers you then fix it, I have had 2 boob jobs, might get my nose done too in a year or two. life’s too short to live with anything you are unhappy with. Just make sure you do your research get a good surgeon, cost should not be a factor in your decision making cheaper will definitely not be best.

barbarahunter · 14/07/2023 20:57

I have had cosmetic surgery on my face and it honestly made me feel so much better about myself. Good luck, OP.

islamann · 14/07/2023 20:59

Just make sure you see an actual plastic surgeon. Some cosmetic surgeons aren't properly trained, as it's poorly regulated.

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 14/07/2023 20:59

I had a breast lift and implants just over two months ago, went to Lithuania for it. Was one of the best decisions I ever made, I previously had one A cup and one B cup boob with a 38 inch chest so finding anything flattering was almost impossible.
I was up and out of hospital after 18-ish hours, flew home 5 days later. Now a solid C cup and loving every minute of it

Curledupwithabook · 14/07/2023 21:01

This is something I'm genuinely tempted by in future, but just wondering for those of you who are employed - how does that work re recovery? I don't know if elective surgery would 'count' for sick leave (and feels a bit unethical to expect it to) but I don't see how it would be possible to do it otherwise!
(Fwiw I'm interested in blepharoplasty, so less invasive than some, but I'd imagine the after effects would be difficult to hide!)

plasticwallet · 14/07/2023 21:01

I know someone who had their ears pinned back & they are happy. Another friend worries me as she always wants to fix something but there's nothing wrong, she's had a boob job, nose job & lots of fillers for cheeks, jawline. She now wants some kind of stomach sculpting thing.

A girl I went to school with had a nose job at 6th form & I still see her around. It's weird but as she's got older her nose seems to small for her face if that makes sense. I used to think my nose was really bulbous as a teen but now late 30s it's small so I wouldn't do facially surgery young tbh.

plasticwallet · 14/07/2023 21:01

A colleague had a tummy tuck, only knew her after. She also said best decision ever.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 14/07/2023 21:01

I’ve had reconstructive rhinoplasty (actually two surgeries). Not perfection but now I don’t look odd any more. It’s totally liberating. Do the best for yourself and find a good surgeon for your procedure. Stay away from those “clinics” who advertise, and definitely don’t have it done abroad

whateveryousay · 14/07/2023 21:06

In response to the ‘time off work issue’, I am a TA so had my procedure done in the summer hols. However the scarring was still visible come September, so while I didn’t advertise it, I just told the truth to anyone who mentioned. Not many did. Most just said ‘Wow, you look so different! Have you changed your hair?’ 😂

CallMeDiaz · 14/07/2023 21:08

I took the first few days off then worked from home. It was a terrible idea looking back but I managed.

orangegato · 14/07/2023 21:10

I got mine done in COVID, best thing I ever did. Worth every penny. Looking at old photos, man I was ugly.

Why spend your life feeling like that to have an extra few grand in your pocket? Live.

toomanyleggings · 14/07/2023 21:10

When I was about ten I had a birthmark removed from my face. After I had my daughter I had a breast reduction and and lift, then implants then a couple of years later I had a tummy tuck. I regret the tummy tuck and the implants for a few reasons. I don’t regret the facial surgery. Having a facial difference is pretty hard. Not sure what your issue is so it’s hard to advise

SidekickSylvia · 14/07/2023 21:29

A friend had rhinoplasty when she was 30 and has no regrets 15 years later. Full on she doesn't look very different, but her profile has completely changed. She said she was obsessed by it, constantly scared someone would take a photo of her before she could face the camera, who she'd be seated next to etc. If it affects your confidence daily, then why not? (She's a teacher and had it done during the summer break.)
