Has anyone had plastic/cosmetic surgery?

Has anyone ever had plastic surgery?

ive hated something on my face to the point I’ve spent my entire childhood crying about it. I’m self conscious, it’s all I think about and I hate it. It’s not something that’s in my head and not really that bad, it’s plainly obvious and I hate it an unbelievably amount.

I could get it corrected in a very low risk surgery (I’ve wanted to ever since I realised it was possible to fix it!) and I’m an adult now so it’s my choice, but I’m just wondering if anyone has had plastic surgery and had any advice on it? My life will be millions better with it fixed but it’s a lot of money 8k+ so I want to do it properly. TIA!

also respectfully please nobody tell me not to change my body, or that it’s probably not that bad, or that they don’t agree with plastic surgery etc. I’m just looking for advice specifically about it. TIA

My eyelids are falling into my eyes as I age - need a blepharoplasty. Not sure where to start looking though.

potentialmediator · 14/07/2023 21:36

Yes I had rhinoplasty when I was 18, started saving when I was 14! It was around 4k then. Find a decent surgeon obviously.
Bloody glad I did. No need to spend your whole life fixating on something if you can improve it. Obviously as long as you have realistic expectations etc.

Gazumper · 14/07/2023 22:23

Yes I had minor cosmetic surgery last year, just some big raised moles removed, although not on my face. I was self conscious of them and it was the best decision to get them removed. 100% no regrets.

This is something I'm genuinely tempted by in future, but just wondering for those of you who are employed - how does that work re recovery? I don't know if elective surgery would 'count' for sick leave (and feels a bit unethical to expect it to) but I don't see how it would be possible to do it otherwise!
(Fwiw I'm interested in blepharoplasty, so less invasive than some, but I'd imagine the after effects would be difficult to hide!)

I had (reconstructive) upper blepharoplasty along with tweaks to my lower eyelid on one side. I had no bruising on one side and slight on the other where the more extensive surgery was. You could go back to work in 48 hours with concealer, I'd say.

why do you regret your tummy tuck ? I had one 7 years ago , I’ve put on a stone and a half and the weight has gone on a bit weirdly ,

LovedmyRaleighChopper · 15/07/2023 18:58

I’ve had blepharoplasty and lower face lift. Hated my saggy eyelids and jowls as I got older! Best thing ever, glad I had it done every time I glance in a mirror. I went to Lithuania to do it after doing huge amounts of research and used a clinic with skilled highly qualified plastic surgeons. My care was equal to or better than the very best nhs care ( and I’m a nurse who works in the nhs so I do have a good idea). It was also about a third of the price of going private in the uk. You won’t regret it as long as you manage your expectations, don’t expect to look like a supermodel, just a better version of you. Find a surgeon with an extensive portfolio who you feel comfortable with and who understands what your expectations are, good luck!

I had a nose job and some other work, I spent a lot of time thinking about it, had 2 x consultations with 2 surgeons before deciding which one to proceed. My friends all thought I was mad. I didn’t hate my face or even have a bad nose, it was probably 7/10 and now it’s 9.5/10. But the overall effect has probably moved me from a 6/10 to an 8/10 - I’m very happy with result. It was subtle changes but overall enhancement. I’d recommend spending as much as you can afford. I went with one of top surgeons and that gave me so much peace of mind. One thing both surgeons I met with did was had this special camera which filmed all around your head and then a computer program to play with a 3d version so we could model what is look like. I thought this was really helpful and I’d strongly recommend whoever you use ensure they do that, as that way you’re on same page about what you’re actually going for

@SaleOfTwoTitties

Your GP will not be able recommend a plastic surgeon!!!!

Well that's not necessarily true.

I had to have a surgery done. Decided to go private. Spoke to my GP and she suggested that I have it done by a plastic surgeon because even though it wasn't a cosmetic procedure she thought that due to the area the surgery was in, reducing scarring was important.

She gave me details of a plastic surgeon she recommended. I did my own research and he was indeed very highly respected in his field and I went with him in the end.

So a chat to your GP can definitely be worth it.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/07/2023 19:07

I've had a nose job to correct a break and two breast enlargement surgeries.
I chose surgeons who did nhs as well as private and I researched a lot too.

cherrybakewell24 · 15/07/2023 19:08

I had my ears pinned back at 19, I'm 33 now and it's still the best decision I ever made.

QueenMegan · 15/07/2023 19:12

I have botox. Worth.every penny has stopped my headaches.
I had my lips done but didn't make much difference but I liked the feeling. The pain was awful so not sure I could do it again.

If I was unhappy with my face I'd definitely change it.

Hi, can you say what the name of the clinic and surgeon was?

Also, how long before and after surgery did you travel, and what was the aftercare like? Thanks.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 15/07/2023 23:00

Yes. I can empathise with your post OP, I felt the same way about my large and bulbous nose. Hated it so much but was scared of the op/ what ifs etc. Finally had the surgery at 35 and honestly my only regret is that I didn't do it the second I had the money! Worth every penny of the £5K it cost.

I have had a bit of Botox since but that's all.

Edinlassy · 15/07/2023 23:08

I have had a rhinoplasty, breast reduction and lift and my upper eyelids tucked, don’t regret any of it and feel so much better for it especially the rhinoplasty.

BravoMyDear · 15/07/2023 23:16

I’ve had a dramatic breast reduction and it’s the best thing EVER! It hasn’t completely transformed me - I’m still short and a bit chubby with amy huge arse. But it turns out I’m not that fussed about any of that now my massive saggy boobs are gone.

My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. I would absolutely have more work done on the future.

toooldtobeamum · 15/07/2023 23:17

I've had an arm lift, breast lift and implants.
All cosmetic but necessary for me as I have lost a lot of weight and was really unhappy with how o looked and felt.
Definitely do your research and if possible get personal recommendations. I am having a thigh lift next!

freetheunicorn1 · 15/07/2023 23:40

I had a boob job 7 years ago in Prague. I was already living abroad at the time and didn't want it in the country I was living in. Did my research and happy with my choice. One thing that was important to me was a surgeon that listened to me.

My advice would be do your research! And be realistic about your expectations.

truelips · 15/07/2023 23:52

Had minor surgery/Botox/injections (in various points of my twenties) on a scar on my forehead that completely ruined my confidence. Unfortunately it can still reform - it's that deep and I've had it since mid teens.

Gummy smile treatment in Harley street - instantly loved it and was very pleased with the results.

Wanted to get non surgical nose job but cancelled as didn't trust the salon doing it. This was also during Covid times so I'm even more glad I didn't go through with it.

I was also looking at semi permanent makeup 💄 as I cba usually to spend ages doing my makeup and covering things.

toomanyleggings · 27/07/2023 22:45

@Soddingcat sorry just noticed your question. A few reasons really. Firstly it was absolutely excruciating, I believe the surgeon botched me ( I did end up with a medical negligence pay out). I was sewn very tightly and couldn’t stand straight for months, which meant I ended up with a back problem. Not worth it for a bit of spare tyre. I then got pregnant two years later and it was ROUGH. I literally spent 9 months feeling like I was being split in two. It was so miserable. Also like you I’ve gained a bit of weight and it’s gone on very strangely. I think I feel more self conscious than I did with my tummy

kayserah · 27/07/2023 22:55

Go for it if you can afford it. I want liposuction, Saving up

OhSmitty · 27/07/2023 23:05

I've had cysts and moles removed from my face and back. These would now be considered cosmetic by the NHS. Thankfully they were done years ago.

I'm sorry you had such a horrible time in surgery - I hope you're healing ok.

Was the surgeon recommended to you? What did he have to say about your experience?

Polecat07 · 20/10/2023 12:43

@PowerhouseOfTheCell and @LovedmyRaleighChopper could you share the surgeon and/or clinic you visited in Lithuania? I've been searching in this country too and would love a recommendation from some people who have already been. It's difficult to know you can trust some review sites. I've completely crossed istanbul off the list because of this, there's just too many conflicting experiences and testimonials.
