I’m glad we aren’t burning like southern Europe but bloody hell, it’s like Autumn.

To be fair, we've only just finished a "been dry for weeks" period. It was just a bit earlier than last year.

To be fair, it was 40c this time last year 🙄

Hedjwitch · 14/07/2023 17:00

Sick of the rain. We had a glorious June and then it all went to shit. Summer is so fleeting it sucks thats its wet and miserable

Words · 14/07/2023 17:00

I'm going on a hill walking holiday tomorrow. Blame me! Grin

Ozgirl75 · 14/07/2023 17:04

Still got all of August yet! Let’s not give up!
Mind you, easy for me to say, I’m in the med and it’s wonderful <unhelpful>

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 14/07/2023 17:04

Just arrived at the caravan near the beach and it is absolutely hammering it down, pissed it down for the whole 4hr drive too.

Luckily there's other stuff to do but it's definitely not looking like there will be much beach time.

@LlynTegid

Wimbledon fortnight always coincides with Oldham Wakes. Another guarantee of rain.

Have the lights on at home , I'm in a cardigan , dh his fleece top .
A few leaves on the trees are going red.

Maireas · 14/07/2023 17:11

I love it - it makes working in an airless classroom with 30 teenagers actually tolerable. Any more than about 23°c and it's stifling and a sweatbox.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/07/2023 17:13

But it’s the relentless rain …..

Waved a load of kids off on DOE this morning. It's pissed down ever since. They'll be miserable, but then again they'd be miserable if it was 40.

England's 'green and pleasant land' is no more.

Rain is good! We need rain.
A nice rainy, windy day is so bracing!

Wonderful? Or like being in a furnace? 😥

MissPop · 14/07/2023 17:17

It’s great weather for teachers. I’m off to Spain in 3 weeks. Hopefully not too scorching.

Danikm151 · 14/07/2023 17:18

I’m sitting in a dressing gown working from home…. i had put it away for the summer.

Gingernaut · 14/07/2023 17:21

Speak for yourself, OP

It's raining, yes, but the heat has not reduced here, in the Midlands

I'm sweating and there's no respite from the humidity

yeah, and we were all being warned to stay indoors and keep the curtains closed during the day. So not much difference in that sense Grin

Yes, perfect school weather. I hope Spain cools down for you, it's really dreadful at the moment.

Fightyouforthatpie · 14/07/2023 17:29

Flip's sake, it's a bit of rain, summer is not over, and we live in the UK ~(thank goodness for our temperate climate).

The nights are drawing in. #bitter.

Longest day long gone……

JamSandle · 14/07/2023 17:31

It's England. I dont know why people get so surprised.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/07/2023 17:33

Because we’re English.

Wait till the Gulf Stream stops warming us up. Then we'll really feel what line of latitude we're on!

FourChimneys · 14/07/2023 17:37

This time last year the grass had died everywhere, farmers were struggling to irrigate crops, and we were saving shower and bath water to pour on the flower beds. We had a hosepipe ban for months.

This year the grass is green and soon the sun will come out again. Everywhere I've been in rural areas lately there is a massive crop of blackberries on the way. They will not be shrivelled and dry like last year.

We still live in a temperate climate despite the news. And I have memories of a caravan holiday in the early 70s where it didn't pour with rain on one day out of 14.

Summermeadowflowers · 14/07/2023 17:43

Selfishly I don’t mind it (39 weeks pregnant) but I do feel a bit bad this weekend is going to be a bit rubbish for DS.
