Is there any way of getting them to sleep until 7:30?!

Just turned 7 year old.

Weekdays awake at 7am
Weeekends about 7.30.

Lately goes to bed at 9pm

Yellowlegobrick · 14/07/2023 00:10

6.15/6.30.

Later bedtimes don't work at all DC is a lark and just wakes early regardless.

You can't expect a child to sleep until that time but you can impose rules within reason that they don't come disturbing you. By age 6 you can give a clock and they should not be coming in before 7

SockQueen · 14/07/2023 00:11

Between 6:30-7:15 most days. But he takes himself off to watch TV/play on his tablet until DH or I appear.

cyncope · 14/07/2023 00:13

7ish, but I get up at 7.30am.

If you want to sleep til 7.30am just let them watch some TV when they wake?

QueefQueen80s · 14/07/2023 00:25

About 7ish but I leave ipads outside door.

Scoobydoobydoobydoo0987 · 14/07/2023 01:06

5 year old wakes up between 7am - 9am. Goes to bed between 8pm and 9pm

Yellowlegobrick · 15/07/2023 06:33

Don't provide screens to an early waker first thing. They give an instant dopamine reward hit to the brain which consolidates early rising.

Leave them with a book to read, or some colouring, or quiet toys. The key is not to reward early waking but make it quite a dull time to be awake.

Skethylita · 15/07/2023 07:05

They wake any time between 5.45 and 7.30, but if they wake before 7 they get sent back to their room. No screens in there and I don't mind if they read a book or even quietly play with Lego. They've learned to read a clock, so know how long to stay.

Totally agree.

Screens are disruptive to sleep both at night and in the morning. My early water is in my bed with me, we put on an audiobook and he’s dozed back off. The light from looking at my screen to put the audiobook on has properly woken me up though 🙄

goodkidsmaadhouse · 15/07/2023 07:14

Waker! Not water

Oysterbabe · 15/07/2023 07:17

Mine wakes up 6-6:30. Usually asleep by 8. It's fine in the week as I'm getting up for work then anyway, annoying at the weekends though.

Agree. We have so many threads about poor behaviour and people can’t seem to make the link to the amount of time spent on screens. Just tell them to entertain themselves or read a book. Mine has been reading when he wakes up since he was 5.

DappledThings · 15/07/2023 07:18

Anywhere between 6 and 7.30

BlameItOnTheGoose · 15/07/2023 07:21

Mines wakes between 7-8, but does go to bed a bit later than most.

Bananas2 · 15/07/2023 07:27

I have actually just asked my 5 year old when he's going to start sleeping on on a weekend before I read this AIBU haha. He usually wakes between 6:15am and 7am - he knows he can't get up for the day before 7am but he always seem to need help with a poo at 6:15am, drives me mad 🙈 Of course then I can't get back to sleep.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 15/07/2023 07:30

Mine can lay in until 9:30/10:00 if he could! He loves his sleep! But we live abroad and it’s the culture for people (including kids) to go to bed later and then have a 2 hour nap after lunch. Schools and workplaces have a minimum of 2 hours for lunch to ensure nap time! Kids usually sleep around 10:00 PM.

44PumpLane · 15/07/2023 07:31

Usually about 7-7.30 which is fine.

They are typically asleep by 8, if they are struggling to sleep in the evening they can read or have the yoto player in.

pecanpie101 · 15/07/2023 19:18

6 year old up at 6, 2 year old up at 530. Can't wait for the 7 o'clock wake ups!

mrssanchez · 15/07/2023 20:07

5am, every bloody morning Hmm

mnahmnah · 15/07/2023 20:15

Anywhere between 5.15 and 6.15. I know.

Doesn’t matter what time he goes to bed. Or how much fresh air and exercise he gets. He wakes up raring to go. Doesn’t stop moving all day. It will calm down won’t it?!

TrexTeeth · 15/07/2023 20:18

I put a timer on the tablet so he can't switch it on before 7. No point him getting up earlier as it's boring !

Asparagus1 · 15/07/2023 20:20

Can be any time between 7 and 8.30. Occasionally earlier than 7.

Gymmum82 · 15/07/2023 20:22

6-7.30. Very occasionally later but only ever on school days.
The 9y is up at 6 on the dot every day without fail

uswr03759 · 15/07/2023 20:25

What do they do when they wake up? Do you get up with them?! I’m not there yet but absolutely longing for a lie in one day.

Mumtothreegirlies · 15/07/2023 20:26

mine used to wake about 7:30 week days with a 8:30 bedtime. Weekends they’d sleep in till 9 and bedtimes were between 9-10 on Fridays and Saturdays.
