Baby already has the odd Wotsit and Quavers but what’s your opinion on NikNaks? This is the orange pack - Nice ‘N’ Spicy flavour btw.

YABU - it’s fine, I’d give it to a 14 month old
YANBU - I wouldn’t give it

Wouldn't even give to a 14 year old.

Same. Though they are not something I would ever buy.

ColourfulHairbands · 13/07/2023 21:53

These comments are brutal!

No the 14 month old did not have a whole bag of bloody NikNaks. I also said that the baby has the odd Wotsis or Quavers. When his sister is having a few, we may give him one or two here and there. It isn’t a daily occurrence….

I personally thought giving a 14 month old two or three spicy NikNaks was too much because of the flavour so I wanted to gather other peoples opinions. I forgot that everyone only gives their child homemade organic carrot puffs and nothing else until they’re about 20.

Off I go to grow my own carrot crisps🫡

Too salty. I didn't give DS Wotsits or Quavers either - only those Organix carrot puffs occasionally.

There's plenty of time for them to eat more 'interesting' things when their bodies are ready for it, no need to rush.

The carrot puff's aren't really a high bar for foods are they?
They're still shit food to be giving a baby. No meaningful nutrition to be found.

3 luffs give them a whopping 14 calories 2.4g if carbs... and fuck all else... The carrot powder accounts for 10% of the snack....so pointless! Just give them a carrot!

as for "too salty" how much salt do you think is in a single niknak? Confused

The organic carrot ouffs are about food marketed to make it sound like it's good for your baby.... Since when has a over processed piece of corn covered in sunflower oil and carrot powder been such a great food? Honestly can't see the noticeable and nutritional significant difference between giving a baby 3 wotsits or 3 "organic carrot puffs". People are gullible fools.

It's literally a pointless food and serves only to line the pockets of Mr Organix

The organic carrot puffs are shit food marketed*

These comments 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fine to give them to taste if you’re eating a packet. Probably wouldn’t give a whole bag, toddlers are happy to eat healthier stuff as they haven’t developed the taste for junk yet. Not sure why the outrage though, it’s not like OP has suggested they feed their child arsenic.

Mela155 · 13/07/2023 22:04

... the thing is a 14 month child doesn't even care about the crisp. They are so distractible so why give it and cause problems for yourself when they are 18 months old.

LunaandLily · 13/07/2023 22:05

Also, how sad is it that you never see Scampi ‘N’ Lemon Nik Naks any more?? They seem to have taken them out of the multipack.

Hugasauras · 13/07/2023 22:06

Those puff things are just shite you pay three times over the odds for.

If I was eating a pack of Nik Naks I might give DD2 (12mo) one to try if she looked interested. She's not having a whole pack though, greedy little bugger.

LePetitChat · 13/07/2023 22:06

Absolutely not, I love nik naks and wouldn’t share, even with my baby. Got to have boundaries. Next thing they’re after your last rolo and it’s all over.

Lysianthus · 13/07/2023 22:06

Can you pronounce the ingredients, and do you have them in your kitchen cupboard? That's all you need to know (for everything you feed your small children). FWIW I suspect none of those crisps pass that test.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 13/07/2023 22:07

Absolutely no .

00100001 · 13/07/2023 21:44

Why not???

In case they choke 😬

TheChosenTwo · 13/07/2023 22:08

Meh, crisps are crisps and if you’re okay with them having a couple of one brand then as far as I’m concerned they’re all crisps.
I wouldn’t have sat my dc down with a bag at that age, no, but they’d have had one of anything they we’re interested in at that age and toddling about towards someone who was eating!
Of course they’re not nutritious but a crisp isn’t going to ruin them for life.

CatsOnTheChair · 13/07/2023 22:08

If you are happy with the quavers and wetsuits being eaten, I can't see any issue with niknaks.

My kids loved strong flavors at that age - DH's homemade curry was (and is) a firm favourite.

Housenoob · 13/07/2023 22:08

I don't think anyone believes carrot puffs are the height of nutrition.

Sometimes you simply need something that will keep them from having a meltdown in the buggy when you're out and the actual carrot sticks or other careful prepared healthy snacks have been disgarded. I'd rather give carrot puffs than salty 'adult' crisps or other junk.

porcelaincider · 13/07/2023 22:08

No way! They sell baby crisps in Aldi cheaper than organix etc

cloudydays2 · 13/07/2023 22:08

A niknak no but my 10 month old did try a quaver the other day! Each to their own but there’s worse foods to give your baby than a singular crisp or a couple

Wotsits. I don't recommend feeding your child a wetsuit. No nutritional value in that!

Hugasauras · 13/07/2023 22:10

I don't see the point of puffs at all. Just get some breadsticks or oatcakes or rice/corn cakes for a third of the price or something and take those with you instead. I bought into the puffs thing with DD1 but realised what a waste of money it was with DD2!

CarpetSlipper · 13/07/2023 22:10

One or two from a sibling or parents packet is absolutely fine. A whole packet? Definitely not.

SoftSheen · 13/07/2023 22:11

I wouldn't give any crisps to a baby. No need to panic if they've managed to help themselves to a couple though.

A 14 year old???

x2boys · 13/07/2023 22:12

No.I mean at that age they might grab one and suck it to death but I wouldn't intentionally give them.it .
