If you’ve had stress or anxiety before what’s helped you get through those times and made it easier to deal with?

Propranolol saved my life. Literally.

Madamecholetsbonnet · 12/07/2023 20:22

Quitting alcohol completely.

Total game changer

Wildspace · 12/07/2023 20:24

Journalling. Always thought it was very self indulgent but had a significant health diagnosis earlier on this year which hit me hard and I found taking the time to write stuff down actually focussed me. Giving up alcohol helped sleep. Acupuncture also. And exercise.

Rtc12 · 12/07/2023 20:25

I'm sorry you're not feeling good. These things have helped me in the past - Counselling, antidepressants, yoga, meditation (grounding is meant to help but I haven't tried it), going for a walk/exercise, not drinking alcohol/reducing it, getting a good night's sleep, sleep is v important for mental health. Some people find journaling good, at one point I had one by my bed to write down my thoughts in the night when I was being kept awake, and it helped. Big hugs x

Stopping doing longer hours at work or the extra few hours at a weekend to try and get more done. Then changing jobs.

78Summer · 12/07/2023 20:30

Acupuncture by someone belonging to the BAC.

DyslexicPoster · 12/07/2023 20:32

Medication. I was really against it, but it really does help. Luckily I have been able to come off with no issues as well.

I'm possibly approaching peri and sometimes wake in the early hours in a panic. But if I take a tablet at night I'm fine that night again

Stratocumulus · 12/07/2023 20:35

Write it all down. Draft after draft, distil and distil, until I’m purged.

I don’t really believe or understand homeopathy but I also took Aconite. Available on line from Amazon (by appt to royalty brand).
It helped me become calmer, cope with panic attacks and more able to sleep. It was a revelation.

Therapy
citalopram

whatsmynameaga1n · 12/07/2023 20:39

Sertraline - significantly reduced panic attacks

VickyEadieofThigh · 12/07/2023 20:39

Exercise. Running was when I rationalised things in my head.

carrot87 · 12/07/2023 20:40

Gym 6 days a week

ItsMyAeroplane · 12/07/2023 20:42

Loads of exercise, especially running
Eating healthily
Telling myself that I need to take care of myself, so I can take care of my family, then actually doing nice things for myself; self care, treatments, time to read

Having boundaries for myself e.g. if I don’t want to do something, I say no, with zero guilt

Babyroobs · 12/07/2023 20:42

Sertraline and HRT.

Sertraline - significantly reduced panic attacks

100% agree with this ☝🏼 sertraline is fantastic for anxiety, panic attacks & intrusive thoughts. It's the only thing that's helped me over the years.

Monkeynuts57 · 12/07/2023 20:43

Following and currently trying to figure out what might help
ivve been having bad panic attacks and anxiety
talking is helping
I have signed up to start Cbt
medication has been discussed but I’m hesitant due to the unpleasant side effects that are a possibility
I’ve tried breathing exercises and daft as it sounds they are helping!

PennyPinkleton · 12/07/2023 20:43

I’ve just finished my second lot of CBT. I had my first CBT sessions at the beginning of my anxiety / panic attacks (about 9 years ago).

The difference this time was I was able to take a step back and see the bigger picture of my worries and anxieties that were preventing me from living my life the way I wanted to live it (mostly without ‘the fear’)

I was ready to give myself fully to the therapy this time and has made all the difference - I would definitely recommend going through this process.

(I also take sertraline)

Hope you find something that helps OP

Escitalopram, cbt, plenty of sleep, exercise, getting outside every day for a walk. Remembering it will get better/easier!! 💗

Peony654 · 12/07/2023 20:46

Swimming, and very unexpectedly, becoming pregnant - the calmest period since I can remember

Watchthedoormat · 12/07/2023 20:46

Paul David - At Last a Life.
I was in cbt and the depths of despair.
This book really facilitated my 'recovery'.

TamagochiRegret · 12/07/2023 21:37

Counselling and propanalol.

Quitting a toxic job.

Developing good boundaries, saying no, listening to what I needed and wanted rather than people pleasing. Counselling gave me the insight and confidence to put those things in place though. Would recommend it to anyone, you need the right counsellor though.

mrsneate · 12/07/2023 21:47

Take time off work. Work is usually what causes my stress and anxiety though!

Dovetail40 · 12/07/2023 21:54

God

Coffeeandcake12 · 12/07/2023 22:15

Gave up alcohol.
I didn't think I drank much, maybe 2 gin and tonics 3 nights a week but it left me so tired and feeling just anxious and shit. Took me a long time to connect them together.
I've also come off social media which has made a huge difference. I was comparing myself to other people and their perfect lives, wondering why they could afford a holiday and I couldn't etc.
I read lots now, walk and gardening

BeezHoney · 12/07/2023 22:18

Ashwagandha + magnesium glycinate.

my deep-rooted anxiety - gone. Best supplements ever! Do your research x
