If you’ve had stress or anxiety before what’s helped you get through those times and made it easier to deal with?

Beta blockers

Exercise - running specifically as it really gets the heart racing and calms down the excess adrenaline

Not drinking alcohol

lissie123 · 12/07/2023 22:18

HRT and Propranolol. Wished I’d taken it years ago. I actually feel normal now. It’s such a relief.

lissie123 · 12/07/2023 22:19

And exercise. Daily. And not drinking too much alcohol.

AlienatedChildGrown · 12/07/2023 22:21

The Fabulous app
Woebot app
The Daily Stoic
Antidepressants
HRT (sandrena, testosterone gel, progesterone) The micronised progesterone in particular had a startling effect on the anxiety. All of the above helped make it more manageable, but the progesterone just hit it over the head with a sledgehammer and it was gone within days.

Changed job and moved abroad

kshaw · 12/07/2023 22:22

If not relying on hormone contraception st Johns wort was amazing for me

Showmethefood · 12/07/2023 22:23

Changing the words “I’m feeling anxious” to “I’m feeling concerned”. Concerned feels a more manageable emotion than anxious, as I can pinpoint the things that are concerning me and then come up with potential solutions to fix them. With anxiety, it feels you become anxious about being anxious.

Raspberri · 12/07/2023 22:23

Has anyone tried CBD oil? I'm tempted to try it as had stomach problems from taking sertraline so worried about the same thing happening with other meds. (Three months of pain/gastroscopy etc)

RubyMurry22 · 12/07/2023 22:26
  1. giving up alcohol
  2. thyroid medication (T3 and T4)
  3. HRT
FabFitFifties · 12/07/2023 22:28

Citalopram, walking, pilates, reading, just doing things rather than putting them off and making them seem bigger than they are. Minding my own business - if I dont watch/listen I cant worry that people are not washing their hands etc. The world hasn't ended yet as a result of me monitoring other people's actions/jand hygiene etc.

FabFitFifties · 12/07/2023 22:29

Me not monitoring I meant

Migrainehaterforlife · 12/07/2023 22:30

Mine turned into OCD, mainly because my job asks an awful lot of perfectionism and double checking from me. It got too much at one point and a combination of time off, the NOCD app, putting myself first and not letting other people dictate my happiness really helped. I discovered as I got much better that I had formed a habit of making myself feel guilty for things I hadn't intentionally done wrong as a way of taking responsibility for them - I.e someone complains at work, I force myself to reflect and feel guilty about what went wrong as though it somehow rectifies the situation. I stopped doing that and realised that with mh eventually life has to go on. I'd exhausted all options and just tried day by say to get through each moment. It's over a year later and I'm brand new now, best of luck to you OP

Quitting alcohol completely.

Total game changer

Yes, and exercise and quitting sugary foods and white carbs (I also look so much better that's a confidence boost!)

Also take some things off your plate if you can. Don't try and do it all. Set some boundaries and don't spend time with people who drain you or do favours for anyone who wouldn't do them back.

PurposefulBear · 12/07/2023 22:33

napping whenever I needed to

motheroreily · 12/07/2023 22:36

Reducing alcohol and caffeine
Sleeping more - listening to hypnosis on YouTube to help me sleep
Avoiding anything triggering on TV
Sertraline - although I've stopped taking it now it definitely helped

Namechangeforthis88 · 12/07/2023 22:38

Loads of exercise. I'm lucky to have got back into a sport I enjoyed in my youth and it's really sociable so the whole thing is a great mood boost.

unsync · 12/07/2023 22:39

Medication, counselling and divorce. Once the divorce was complete, the stress and anxiety stopped.

HairMb · 12/07/2023 22:40

Taking extra care of myself physically - early nights, walking somewhere green or beachy every day, eating well and drinking enough water.

Taking b vitamins, magnesium and iron if needed helps me. Repeating mantras that I’ve picked up that help me even if it’s just ‘this will pass.’

When really bad taking the day 5 minutes at a time so narrow focus.

Taking anything extra off my plate is extra shifts or commitments things like that.

Writing thoughts down each night, look up stoic diary.

Box breathing throughout the day to help reset parasympathetic system.

Talk to trusted friends.

At my worst CBT helped.

I hope you feel better op.

Rachaelrachael · 12/07/2023 22:41

Propanalol

I really like that.

LadyMcLadyface · 12/07/2023 22:43

Exercise, 100%.

Pippa12 · 12/07/2023 22:45

Hypnotherapy. It’s been a game changes for me.

MaggieFS · 12/07/2023 22:48

Seeing a counsellor. Working out what I could actually affect - what I could influence - and what was just pointless worry about things I couldn't change.

I probably give too few fucks now, but it makes life much better.

I also had a course of online CBT but it didn't help, I needed the 1:1 in person time to really focus.

Fryleela · 12/07/2023 22:48

Citalopram for anxiety.
The calmest I’ve ever been was during pregnancy guessing something to do with hormones..
Getting a diagnosis for adhd recently has also helped me be kinder towards myself as I finally understand why I struggle so much in life.
Also sleep is underrated
