Yes i'm joking.. but man, i wish it were possible. If she were at primary i'd probably consider it, but she's Yr9 and doing gcse stuff

This last bit of the school year is dragging so badly, and i am SO done with it.. i want the summer break already.

10 days left.

DD is finding the end of this school year hard, year 8 with ASD. Her school have put on lots of lovely activities and she's been invited to lots of rewards for her brilliant behaviour and achievement which is great. However, the unpredictability of it all is stressing her out and making her tics worse. Which is making her not want to go in as she's worried others will notice.

So teach her that in the future when she is in the workforce she can do sweet sod all and stay at home 4 days before her annual leave starts? Ok great idea.

Teacher?

i have to drive her to/from school every day.

I have ADHD, and its a mental task that constantly nags, it causes task paralysis and i'm struggling to do anything after lunch at the moment because my brain is just 'you can't do that because you have to get dd from school'

Once school is out and i don't have to do pick up, that task goes and i can properly relax and get some stuff done. Its a strange thing to explain, but its like i have mental fatigue and i need to switch off, which i can't do until school run is done with for a bit.

I sometimes struggle with this. I find if I have an alarm set for the time I need to stop doing whatever I'm doing and get ready to go out, it can work quite well to mean I can concentrate on whatever I'm doing until the alarm goes off.

You might already have tried it or similar and not found it helpful but worth considering if not.

I think you should hire a coach with adhd experience, specializing in executive functioning

Theunamedcat · 11/07/2023 18:24

We all have adhd here getting ready for school is challenging plus getting the youngest back from school

I have "alarms" so so many three just to get ds1 to school four for ds2 a collect from school alarm a reading morning alarm my week is full of bings and bells

My head hurts

Zeroperspective · 11/07/2023 18:42

I'm at the start of week 2 of the 8 week summer holidays (northern ireland) and I'm wishing for school to start back up again, I'm over it already 😂😂 I get the task paralysis though as I'm the same! Hang in there lovely not long to go x

It'll be over soon and you can lie in a darkened room 😊!
Shame she hasn't got a class mate whose parent could give her a lift. Have you asked?

CinnamonJellyBeans · 11/07/2023 18:56

How is driving your own child to and from school such hard work? What would you be doing instead?

SayHi · 11/07/2023 19:02

I’m autistic and have ADHD, a single parent and work FT as a teacher for children with SEND.

It’s exhausting this time of year but I think you’re being dramatic that it takes it out of you just driving her to school and back.

VintageThoughts · 11/07/2023 19:09

I hear you loud and clear OP. My DD is in Y12 but I still have to drive her to the station every morning at 7.30. She's on a school trip next week so I get to lie in (for a bit). Can't wait for her to learn to drive, I'm so over this parenting nonsense 😂

Beezknees · 11/07/2023 19:09

Is it not safe for her to ride a bike there? A 10 minute drive wouldn't take that long on a bike.

PhantomUnicorn · 11/07/2023 19:14

she can't ride a bike, doesn't have the co-ordination.

If she did, she'd be fine on the way there, its all down hill.. but coming back up would be one hell of a workout for even the fittest of cyclists tbh our village is half way up a very very big hill (welsh borders, lol)

Fair enough. I'm not good on a bike either 😂

PhantomUnicorn · 11/07/2023 19:17

think a couple of posters are missing i'm half being tongue in cheek.

i think you're lucky if you don't find this last couple of weeks of term one heck of a drag.

My kid's autistic. Dreading the holidays lol.

2boysandagirltoo · 11/07/2023 19:20

I feel this. Ds (year 9) is so done with it

He's been off today with a migraine. Next week he has d of e and enrichment week.

Ready for the holiday

Hereinthismoment · 11/07/2023 19:20

It’s the biggest drag @PhantomUnicorn but I love the batshit suggestion about the life coach.

Wildlyboring · 11/07/2023 19:23

My daughter has asd and is at burnout point now, however I also know within a week of the holidays she'll be flipping out ready to get back to school. It's exhausting, I feel you mama I feel mentally fatigued too.

It's a joke. No need to take it so seriously.🤣🤣

Gerrataere · 11/07/2023 19:26

I get you, OP! I’m not diagnosed yet, but have very clear adhd traits and I’m absolutely crawling to the finish line this term. One child with ASD and suspected adhd, one with adhd and awaiting ASD diagnosis and school mornings are mentally draining for all of us. Two different school runs as well, and don’t get me started on nighttime routine - especially Sunday night. If I could call it quits tomorrow I would but we’ll just keep dragging ourselves to the end. Which is two Mondays away for one of them, FML… I have booked myself a treat for the first week of the holidays and the kids will be having extra time with dad, something they’re very happy about! Keeps us all motivated 😂

AllOfThemWitches · 11/07/2023 19:19

i get that too. my 16yo has asd/adhd, used to feel like that, but now he will squirrel himself in his room with his ps5 and i only see him at meal times xD

The only time i dread now is having to get him out the house if we want to go out, that takes some military planning, expert negotiation skills, and a promise of some fries from mcdonalds.

psst, if anyone is wondering WHY i'm so tired.. i haven't had more than 4hrs sleep a night for the last 3 weeks either.

yay insomnia. i'm practically 90% coffee at this point. 😂😂
