Working in health care ...love it but high stress, poor pay. Not getting any younger.

Someone on the work thread said they know lots of people in cushy, well paid jobs. Posting here for traffic...where are they?!
Disn't have to be interesting or worthy...just cushy and well-paid!

Personally, I think vlogging is where it's at and you can do it any time, any place, anywhere.
There are individuals who take their phones on a bus or train, chat not always involved, and just film the scenery from the top deck or station platform. The possibilities are endless. Cookery is big business and clothes hauls which vlogs are often quite badly made with the presenter not getting the products in the picture. Lots of freebies.
Watch Butlers Empire or Bald Foodie Guy who mostly does comparisons of say 2 or 3 good items from main supermarkets, air fries them, tastes then and tells you what he thinks. He keeps a family on his earnings so it must pay and he gets sent gifts and money from people who watch him besides platform money.
That's where it's at.

You tend to find that when those of us who have them have finally managed to land them, we don't leave them. Which is why there's not many openings for them.

In all seriousness, I worked as an underpaid, undervalued minion for years before I worked up to where I am now. Experience and luck. Sometimes just luck but those people don't last long in decent companies.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 12/07/2023 20:04

I’ve had very cushy very well paid jobs twice. Once for a travel company pre-internet, that was a blast. And one in the offices of the social services.
My last job was also cushy and well paid but I’d had to train hard for that.

doorstopper123 · 12/07/2023 20:27

My job is cushy and well paid but im mid 40s with 20 years experience and work on a freelance basis

worked hard to get here. Sometimes it is high stress but mostly i avoid those situations

You have to be an incompetent white male with zero personal awareness, then you just need to find someone who falls for it when you talk about how great you are.

Just stop.

lljkk · 12/07/2023 20:32

Hiding for ridiculous sexism. And Racism to boot.

Zaddiec · 12/07/2023 20:52

If your in healthcare your cushy stress free job is in private healthcare beauty/ therapy/ wellness. The opportunities exist but you have to look hard and potentially do private courses to give yourself some additional qualifications

I was a nurse in the nhs but now I do private work and make almost double my nhs pay per hour, and it’s 90% less work, skills and stress

Hmm1234 · 12/07/2023 20:56

This! Hahahah

Bossie21 · 12/07/2023 21:04

Not sure I get the reference to white male having it easy. My husband has experience, qualifications and excellent record in his company yet every time he applies for a job it’s given to somebody female, newly qualified or not white and 50% of those given roles have messed it up. He’s given up now.

Dibbydoos · 12/07/2023 21:09

No job is well paid and cushy.

I earn a lot. I am self employed, I had been working maybe 60-70 hours a week doing the work and running my business, but have now engaged some support, so I earn maybe £3-4k less a month but am down to a more manageable 45-50 hour week.

I love what I do, it adds value to business. Do I think I'm worth it? Well I shaved maybe £60k off the costs of a job last week and I help my clients win £ms in contracts, so, yes, I think my client gets good value. I'm about to do a piece of work that would cost £60-70k if my other client outsourced it to a consultancy. I'll charge them c£5k because I've done it so many times, it takes me a very short time. I'm not blowing my own trumpet, it's just how it is - I've been doing this for over 35 years.

But now Im getting older, I'm hoping to invest in the right things so I can earn some passive income, which incidentally isn't passive unless you completely hand your money to someone else, so I can plan retirement in the next few years.

If you're in health, teaching, civil service you won't need to worry about having enough to retire on. Those of us not in final salary pension schemes do need to worry about that. Having a good pension is worth £0,000's of income, IMO. The grass isn't really greener....

MadisonR · 12/07/2023 21:55

You need one of the 'managers managing managers' type jobs, every work place is full of them, there seems to be no one actually doing any work.

You asked in the right place, everyone on here claims to be on a huge salary. And yes, I am envious.

Elephantsdontlikechocolate · 12/07/2023 22:40

Make sure you are a useless, ideally, silly man of the right background and those jobs will come to you.

Elephantsdontlikechocolate · 12/07/2023 22:42

They are jobs that involve freud bullshitting e.g management or HR consultant type jobs, particularly to the nhs

I bagged myself a really cushy number working from home 28k a year. Not well paid for some people here on Mumsnet but i was working as a teaching assistant before and oh my god!!!

I don’t work half as hard as what I did. I also get to have a wee and drink tea whenever I like along with having a lie in everyday. The job is totally easy and I’m paid 14k more a year for it.

Please reveal, I need this job too!

Nmydclg · 12/07/2023 23:30

Well that’s interesting as that’s my job and it’s a lot less money than that. I cover 9 practices with a total population of 70,000 people. I work all day in clinics 9 days out of 10 and have the 10th day for admin, supervision, training and meetings. It’s not cushy and it’s not £55k

Tyrionapproach · 12/07/2023 23:33

Have a look in LinkedIn or the HSJ, lots of NHS non jobs floating about there. The latest fashion being lots and lots of EDI roles (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion), normally at least a Band 7 if not an 8a or 8b. Quite a few Wellness Officer type jobs as well though they're often a little lower banded, maybe a 6 or 7. Or maybe that's just the Trusts in the part of the country I'm currently in. Also really helps if your face fits and you're mates with an exec or two.

There's no such thing as a cushy, well paid job you haven't worked hard to qualify for or build.

Oh there totally are, but sadly if your dad or best pal at Eton isn’t the company CEO you probably won’t get one!

dmorse · 12/07/2023 23:42

My current job is pretty cushy and well paid compared to my pervious ones, but only because I spent the better part of two decades developing the skills that I can do it in my sleep.
It's kinda like that old joke "it takes 10 years to become an overnight success". Certain jobs are only cushy and well paid for the people who have the skills to make them cushy and well paid. For anyone without the skills they will be stressful, and impossible to do.

I know, when people on here say ‘you can just get a better paid job’ it makes me want to scream

Me too where I live its so hard

Leaving aside the well paid bit, this reminds me of a crap job I had years ago. Basic salary was the same for all, but if you spoke additional languages needed for the role you got additional bonus. This was scrapped when the monolingual MD pointed out that people working in multiple languages were just as fast as those working in just English. Which just made me think ‘go on, you complete the work in Dutch then.’

DrJackDaniels · 13/07/2023 06:51

For the well paid aspect, I’d look into contracting and there are loads of contracting jobs in the NHS and public sector. I’m a content manager- no degree or formal qualifications in the field. But I started as a freelance writer to be able to work from home and manage childcare etc. pay then was atrocious. But then started to manage the content on the sites I wrote for. Built up experience over the years and got a contractor job on £300 a day for 6 months which turned into a year working for the civil service.
Then got another contractor job at £400 a day in another public sector and luckily this role is for 18months. In fact, I’m fairly low paid compared to some, I just never had the balls to negotiate as I sort of feel guilty for asking for more when it’s already so much!

You don’t work for the organisation as you’re a contractor so there’s some distance/less worry and the same role for a full time perm position would only earn me around £40k a year. I wouldn’t call it particularly stressful (for what I’m paid) but the stress comes at the end of a job when you need to find more work. However you build up contacts and have relationships with agencies so that you can line your roles up.
I also WFH full time and because most contractors work under an umbrella company, you pay into pension and can arrange holiday and sick pay depending on how you want your contract to work.

All contractors I know all day they can’t believe they’re paid so much for doing the same job they did for years. It’s just the insecurity of lining up jobs that’s the only negative.

You’re clearly not a white male with connections. Plenty of untalented men in very cushy jobs.

Honestwife · 13/07/2023 07:28

These well paid jobs usually entail long hours, meetings at different times of the day due to international teams working in different countries. Travelling/leaving family to work abroad a few weeks now and again. Meeting really tight deadlines and to top it all you have to be skilled in a specific area.
